The biggest frustration in card making is stubborn stamps! Ever bought a new stamp that doesn't quite stamp right, maybe you don't get a solid image or there's a stubborn spot. maybe it's really sticky and tore your paper. Cheap alternatives for stamp shammy and coconut...dollar store or Amazon product called Absorber, often they are 4xs larger than the lawn fawn shammy, so you can get 4-5 shammies from one sheet of Absorber. As for a shammy keeper, target, Walmart and dollar stores sell q-tips (or ear buds) in a round plastic container with a couple of small holes in the bottom. For $3.00 or less, you get 100 q-tips and a shammy home.

Daisyville I was floored when I saw the price of the coconut. $20 on Amazon!!! I’m too cheap. My Absorber came in a plastic tube like container with an air hole at the bottom and the product package suggests storing in that. Score!!!

I use the pink rubber eraser and have for years. Works really great. I have always rinsed the stamps after using the eraser, but using the shammy seems much easier.

Butts Bee Lip Balm works great, it is made with natural Bees wax & they stick well to the acrylic blocks.

thanks for the great tips,,, I didn't know about the alchol wipes but I do have the bubble gum cleaner and the sand eraser, I bought within the last month but I was only using it for the spots that always show up on my cards ,just when I'm finishes making one!!! lol brutus Monroe sells an awesome stamp cleaner that get ALL the ink off your stamps!!!

I have to admit I don't use stamp cleaner with my shammy normally, unless its a very stubborn stain :-)

I find that merely using a white pencil eraser on the surface of new stamps is enough to condition the stamp... might be a bit less invasive than the sand eraser...? :)

I agree for some stamps, others seem to be more stubborn and I find that the sand eraser cuts through with no damage to my stamp :-)

As it happens, I make my own polymer stamps, eventually they stop being quite so sticky - and can be refreshed if need be, by washing as you say. You may like to experiment with a spray window cleaner to remove stickiness - when I am making stamps, the glass plates get sticky and I find window cleaner spray removes that better than anything else, even alcohol.

I'm a little curious on something. People have asked about using baby wipes to clean their stamps and I've seen them told to use only alcohol-free ones. Yet on this video, you are using straight alcohol pads. Can you clarify for us if there are certain stamps where it is okay to use alcohol, and which ones they are vs ones where you should not use it? Thanks - your videos are so informative and I rarely leave with a question in mind, but this time can't help but ask.

Toni Romero I'm just a lurker here but had to share my two cents... I bought a chamois called "Absorber" at an auto parts store and use it for my crafting. It has so many uses and there is so much of it! So I would imagine an original chamois would work just as well. Much more inexpensive too. Please let us know if it works for you. Curious minds want to know 😉

I'm not sure there is anything different, these are thick and the right size so i was completely sucked into the convenience and $6 didn't seem too bad with prime shipping. Hedgehog Hollow $6 isn’t bad but you only get one. With the others you can cut them into several depending on your size preference. I think that’s why most people gravitate towards the auto store car chamois (aka Shammy).

You mentioned something a few times that I hadn't heard of before, and I'm not sure how it's spelled, but it sounded like alfairy? or olfairy? liquid with the Dawn dish soap. What is that? Is it something unique to the UK? I'm from the USA. And sometimes my hearing isn't the best either, but I'm just curious what it is.

I was under the impression that alcohol could damage your stamps. I wonder where I got that impression?

Alcohol shouldn't do any damage to them, I always do a final clean as you saw with the shammy, i have stamps over 10 years old i use this method on and they are perfect

I can only speak from experience, I have been doing it 10 years, I am fastidious about cleaning them after use and after the wipes but I have no issues

Vanessa Wachlin I’ve always heard that also but I totally trust Alexander. She’s does her research. I’ve learned so much factual information from her. Besides, the stamp cleaners have conditioning agents in them so there’s that.

no matter what I do I cannot get a good image from rubber stamps whether it is misti, TH or acrylic block...What am I doing wrong?

How do you mean a good image? also do you mean line or solid images? Sorry for all the questions just trying to understand the problem so I can help you solve it

Good line images...the Prima Princesses are the worst of the bunch. I have followed in videos what to do and it all looks like it should work but won't. One thing I've learned is to store the ink pads face a small detail bloggers forget to tell us.

Actually the ink pads face down is a myth, ink is a suspended medium it won't harm or help your pads, its just personal preference. I precondition all my photopolymers like this, then some people swear by stamping in versmark then adding ink, I have not found this necessary after the steps in the video but you can try that, the other thing is dye inks will never give as good a result on clear stamps as hybrid or pigment this is due to water and silicon not playing well together. I appreciate your time but the question still lingers...What do you do with your rubber stamps that maybe I am NOT doing. Perhaps a video on stamping DETAILED rubber stamps. I can't be the only one out there that is a new enough newbie that an answer to this wouldn't be helpful. Thanks
