I see so many comments by non-Portuguese that have no idea what they are saying. If you are trading crypto not as your day job or a company, you pay zero on it. Period. This is because there is no legislation to enforce it, as in Portugal crypto is not an official way to do conventional trade. In a few years though, things might change, so if you do live here, you might want to cash out (i.e., trade it for fiat and keep it on the bank), before the Government decides to tax your investments.

The regulators here are just unware of what crypto can be and already is. Once they see people making money on it, they will tax it heavily like they do to any other investment. Our monetary system is also very dependent on what is decided in Brussels. Once crypto regulation comes from above, I don't see Portugal offering much resistance. Hopefully Estonia, Malta, Slovenia and other can remain crypto friendly.

They can't really regulate retail and private bitcoin buyers, but the problem is they can regulate public companies that want to put bitcoin on their balance sheets, and that's a big problem.
