This is what metal came from ... not like influence wise necessarily.. but the inner urge for the basic human primal make some noise type instinct we have in us .. in the scheme of time we are very recently descended from this very type of thing . Some of us feel it a little more than others .

Timeless, primal human predatory aggression translated into music. I seriously think that any elitist metalhead who doesn’t like this type of authentic, raw music/ancient metal is lacking a complete soul. 😂

The chant they are singing is the end of the second of the Merseburg Incantations, the oldest known piece of Old German literature, dating back to the 9th or 10th century (maybe even 2nd to 5th century, still being debated in the scientific community). So, pretty much a 1000+ year old pagan magic spell to conjure healing. sose benrenki, sose bluotrenki, sose lidirenki: ben zi bena, bluot si bluoda, lid zi geliden, sose gelimida sin! Translated to: Like bone-sprain, so blood-sprain, so joint-sprain: Bone to bone, blood to blood, joints to joints, so may they be mended.

I saw a video of this song and they had brought up Native Americans on stage with them all decked out in their native dress. Two completely different cultures dancing and celebrating together. I'm a grown man but it brought me to tears watching it lol, super powerful stuff. The amount of respect and honor Heilung shows to the native people wherever they go is incredible. Still haven't been to a ritual yet but hopefully one day soon!

This is my meditation song of choice. Such a powerful experience! But to answer your question, Heilung is the brain child of Kai Uwe Faust (lead male vocalist with headpiece) - hes also a tattoo artist that i think either specializes or is an exclusive artist of Old Norse ink, Maria Franz (lady with the awesome antler headpiece), andChristopher Juul (6:39 in this video). Basically the three that walked out at the end of the song lol. As a recommendation, I insist that you take a look at their opener to this show, In Maidjan. Maria's vocals are INSANE

Another very interesting subject is Alfadhirhaiti, in which you can see all the strength of the Heilung warriors on stage. In this musical theme, they first invoke Geri and Freki, the two wolves that accompany the god Odin, with howls. Their names mean Ravenous and Greedy in Old Norse. After they recite the invocation phrases, I shout this spear, I scream loudly. Then the ravens of Odin, Hugin and Munin, are invoked, who traveled the world observing everything and giving news. At the end they all invoke Odin repeating all the names by which the god is known until reaching ecstasy, preparing for battle. Mighty of the court, the wise, the dear, the one who talks to wolves, the welcome, the pale, the god of desires, inspiring, chief, red-haired, hooded, wand-bearer, famous lord, god of the hanged, wanderer of the mist, the needy, father of Yule, the tall one, rider on the attack, father of all, tree of victory, the one with the lost eye, who throws the spear, shining eye, throws a shaking shield, leader of the people the one with knowledge, bearer of cloak, keeper of secrets, the terrible, the stormy. A hug.

This was at Castlefest in the Netherlands a few years ago when they started getting a following. Check out the videos from more recent rituals. I was at the Maryland ritual in January. The power and energy of the ritual is lost in video translation, but it is absolutely electrifying. They've grown so much over the last three or four years. If you are standing still during Hamrer Hippyer at the live ritual then you have no soul.

I attended their ritual at The Roundhouse in London, in November 2019 and they finished with this one. It was slightly different to this version, as in London, the warriors came on stage, handed their spears to the shield maidens, then jumped into the audience to lead the dancing. It was a transcendental celebration. At one point, Maria looked out into the crowd and had a huge grin on her face.

Oh, and more Heilung, please, I totally second CrossLP's recommendation of Alfadhirhaiti.

Heilung specifically calls it a ritual, not a show/concert. I was at one in January. There is a lot of thought put into the beginning and end that isn't shown on the video and they actually cast a circle and bless the crowd with sage. It's a great experience if you ever get a chance for tickets.

You guyz really like them?! Great. One of the Heilung crew looks like an “Ash-Biter” from way back. But then all of them dress like someone from the Viking era. I think the next one you should review is “Norupo”, the video filmed among some standing stones. As to hunting wolves; you hunt the good ones for long enough, they will eventually catch you! LOL
