I think Maria is really hitting the nail on the head. Certain things have nothing to do with culture, experience or preference. All of our ancestors have been sitting around the same fire, under the same sky, surrounded by the same darkness. Heilung strikes chords that have been hardwired within us for dozens of millennia. It just became unusual for us to remember those chords.

My favourite kind of Metal is the type you can march to war to. That primal, gutteral beat and chugging rhythm. Heilung fits the bill as well as Amon Amarth do.

Totally agree on the varied audience. When I saw them in Kopenhagen I saw people dressed as vikings, tunicas and stuff, saw metal heads with leather jackets, band patches all over, saw more casual people looking like they came from their everyday life, saw people in suits, looking like they came from their office or workplace parking their Mercedes outside. Elder people and minor kids. Every single one of them lost their shit on the last song and no one, absolutely no one sat down, but stomped their feet and waving their arms instead. It was insane and a sight to behold. Heilung is enchanting to the core.

Some context on what Maria was trying to translate: "Ur-" is a German prefix which is used with other words. It signifies that the word is the first, original, or primal. For example, "Urmensch" meaning "Prehistoric/Primeval/Primal man."

In my opinion they already are and probably always will be. They are my go to band I show people when I wanna show them what really goes inside my head, what I look for in music. There isn't a single band that made me feel so angry, I literally wanted to punch a hole into my wall, excruciatingly sad, unbelievably horny and above all just in pure awe in one album (I'm speaking of LIFA of course). Except maybe Between the Buried and Me, but I didn't literally cry listening to them.

This band has a "beat" or "rythym" that resembles Native American drum beat. It is trance inducing, especially when experienced live! I stumbled upon a video somehow. I thought it was an opera! LOL That is until the growl of the male singers appeared. There is darkness but this was the time period of the saga's and stories it came from. But it also is somehow relaxing and comforting.
