The reason why some shooters are more stable with their forward foot rotated internally is that the hip joint capsule is under more tension in that position, so the forward hip is less likely to move. This is because of the way in which the lower limb develops during the second and third months of gestation. It rotates inwardly from its initial position, thus creating a hip joint capsule that is twisted. It is under more tension when rotated inwardly, than outwardly. If the hip joint is infected and painful, the patient will hold the foot in externally rotated position to minimise the tension on the hip joint and thus minimise pain.

Heinz, I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for all you do for the sport of 10 meter shooting.I am by no means a world class shooter(although not to bad). Just a retired professional firefighter who has learned so much from your videos and your 2 awesome books that I purchased a couple years back. I have a great range in my basement and some excellent equipment as well.10 meter shooting has done so much for me with focus, balance,breathing and the list goes on. My dad taught me years ago that if you are going to do something well do it right! Your books and videos have helped me to accomplish just that when it comes to 10 meter shooting.Thank you...Bill

It's much harder to get a stable position if your torso to leg ratio is greater for the torso . This is the problem I have . My elbow is miles from my hip .
