Good presentation. However, a few things you might have mentioned. Soil pH being one, reading the tomato hat to determine when the tomato is ripe, being another. I have grown heirlooms for years and much of what you say is accurate. My favorites are Cherokee Purples, Brandywine Red and Pink, Pineapple. I live in the deep south and have a few issues with blight but have learned to live with it. 19 of 20 of my fellow growers will vote Cherokee as the #1.

If people want more info on heirloom tomato, a good place to look is Tatiana's Tomatobase website, which have a database of heirloom and open pollinated tomatoes.

Cherokee Purple has a cult following but yes, to Brandywine. Brandywine Yellow, Plattfoot Strain is a better producer and manages heat and wet conditions better than any other Brandywine. It is potato leaved beast of a plant!
