In the manga it still wasn’t clear they were talking about the gum gum fruit as the gorosei were just talking vaguely about a fruit so people continued to theorize . The anime straight up shows the gum gum fruit 😂

I think it's less that kaido magically got stronger and more that he was pulling more of his energy into fighting with Luffy than holding up the island, which is why it was starting to crumble and Momo had to go grab it. For most of the raid kaido has been splitting a significant part of his power to move onigashima but in the last few episodes he's like "oh damn this kid is kind of making me sweat" so he's going from 60/40 to 80/20 to 90/10.

I agree with you. He is likely redistributing his focus and df energy output in his multitasking. Additionally, Kaido suffers from depression. We've seen in cases like Water 7 and Eines Lobby that if someone in One Piece has their heart disturbed (like doubt and confusion over Robin's apparent betrayal), then they can't use their full strength. CP9 noted that the Strawhats were stronger at Eines Lobby (I think it was Blueno, but I may be mistaken). It is likely that Kaido is usually suffering from a 'debuff' from his depression, which is crazy considering how strong he is despite it. The drunken moods swings seem to have him focus on particular emotions, and certain emotional states seem to clear his depression for short periods. We also see his hybrid form appearance change slightly, with the scales taking on a more purple hue and his eyebrows notably changing to a white cloud/flame shape. It may also be that Kaido is close to an Awakened state as the alcohol affects his mental state (as Awakening has physical and mental requirements). We don't see a cloud/flame ring like we see with other full Awakened Zoans, which is why I say 'partial'.

We don't know what do Kaido know exactly, BUT he was in Rocks crew (who seems to know a lot if the government had to even erase the island where Marine and Roger beat them) and while King repeat that he want to make Kaido king of the pirate and said that he could be "joyboy", Kaido seems to know that he's not joyboy, he's not a D either, and was trying to suicide before changing his mind into create a world war. Kaido know that he's not special, like Whitebeard knew too, he's one of the strongest to ever live but he know that he can't do more than that, so yes he's trying to make history by the only thing that he can do, fight the strongest and die in a big fight

when Kaido gets drunk in front of Luffy and starts getting emotional, it shows a different side to Kaido's character and i really liked that. i bet these two could've gotten along had they met sooner, as Kaido values strength and he seems like he is disheartened, which led to his villain arc. it begs the question, would Luffy have become like Kaido, if he lost his crew forever back at Sabaody?

21:00 I'm only seeing this episode from this reaction, but Luffy was knocked out for a WHILE. Kaido drank at least 4 more barrels and has been lounging in dragon mode being sad. Disappearing pupils just means you've lost your conscious self, either losing it by passing out or via something like an overwhelming emotion or something.
