Toad Toast

3 жыл бұрын

This is a song that originates from WW1, talking about the Voluntary Legion of Women in a humorous manner, so yeah, nothing here is meant to be offensive.
More about the Legion: en.wikipedia.o...
Thanks to Polish Eagle for introducing this song to me and also for some of the lyrics.
Lyrics (feel free to point out any mistakes):
Hej, panienki, posłuchajcie, Raz, dwa, trzy,
I gazety przeczytajcie, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Są tam wesołe nowinki,
Będzie pobór na dziewczynki, Raz, dwa, raz, dwa, trzy!
Najpiękniejsze z okolicy, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Przeznaczają do konnicy, Raz, dwa, trzy,
A która nie ma ochoty,
To ją wezmą do piechoty, Raz, dwa, trzy!
Pułk najpierwszy z Warszawianek, Raz, dwa, zztrzy,
Ma się nazwać pułk ułanek, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Wielkie wezmą do dragonów,
Stare panny do furgonów, Raz, dwa, raz, dwa, trzy!
Tłuste, grube i pękate, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Powsadzamy na armatę, Raz, dwa, trzy,
A gdzie będą twierdze puste,
Wsadzimy Żydówki tłuste, Raz, dwa, raz, dwa, trzy!
Do sztandarów zakonniczki, Raz, dwa, trzy,
A do szturmu baletniczki, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Wygadana porucznikiem, Raz dwa, trzy,
Wykształcona pułkownikiem, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Gdy będzie chłopców kochała,
Dojdzie stopnia generała, Raz, dwa, raz, dwa, trzy!
Gdy bernardyn się dowiedział, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Już w klasztorze nie wysiedział, Raz, dwa, trzy,
Zgłosił się więc z takim planem,
By go zrobić kapelanem, Raz, dwa, raz, dwa, trzy!
Hey, ladies listen, One, two, three,
And read the newspapers , One, two, three,
There is good news in them,
There will be recruitment for girls, One, two, one, two, three!
The most beautiful in the area, One, two, three,
Will be sent to the cavalry, One, two, three,
And the ones that don't want it,
Will be taken to the infantry, One, two, one, two, three!
Best regiment made of Warsaw girls, One, two, three,
Will be called the "Uhlan Regiment", One, two, three,
They will take big ones to dragoons,
They take maids to furgons, One, two, one, two, three!
Fat, big and bulky, One, two, three,
Will be put on cannons, One, two, three,
Where there is an empty fortress,
We will put fat Jewish girls, One, two, one, two, three
Nuns will hold the banners, One, two, three,
Ballerinas will be used to assault, One, two, three,
Seamstresses will stay in reserve,
For when someone's clothes gets ripped, One, two, one, two, three!
Those girls that sing beautifully, One, two, three,
Will be promoted as trumpeters, One, two, three,
Those that are always screaming,
Will be recruited as drummers, One, two, one, two, three!
The beautiful ones, One, two, three,
Are going to be happy in the army, One, two, three,
Getting polished, aiguilette,
Just like an adjutant, One, two, one, two, three!
Talkative as a lieutenant, One, two, three,
Educated as a colonel, One, two, one, two, three,
And if she loves the boys,
She will come to the rank of a general, One, two, three!
When Bernardine (monk) found out, One, two, three,
He couldn't just sit in the Monastery, One, two, three,
He went with a plan,
To become a chaplain, One, two, one, two, three!

2:08 translation error, the phrase "nie wysiedział" here refers so not being able to wait, so a closer translation would be "He couldn't just sit in the Monastery"

Contrary to appearances, until the 18th century there was no compulsory celibacy for priests in Poland and no one was surprised to see a parish priest or even a bishop with his wife.

fact first - This song was created in the period between 1937-1939, so before World War II. second fact - During World War I, Poland did not exist, in fact there were Polish military organizations, but they did not have the legal power to introduce mandatory conscription for women, which is what this song is about. third fact - In Poland, after regaining independence, there was greater freedom of speech than in Great Britain, in Poland no one could sue you for making fun of women because they either replied to you in the same way or simply ignored you...

@ToadToast
@ToadToast 2 жыл бұрын
The luger was used by several nations ever since 1989, the Vis didnt even start production until 1935, so it made more sense to put a pistol that the polish used at that time (1918-1921). German weapons were common in the polish ranks at that time if i'm not mistaken.

@@ToadToastBut this Song is from 1937 and the ViS pistol fits it perfectly. However, in the earlier period, the Polish army did not use a single Luger P08, because we had very few officers and the more popular Russian and Francoist pistols were among them, and sometimes they used revolvers, but we are talking about the 1920s, not the time when this song was written...

@@proto6086 FYI it's literally the female version of same rythm song about male legioners. Many songs were made by soldiers for selfmockery and male ones are also "offensive" for male soldiers. It was war and no time for snowflakes offended for funny songs. I'm not sure if you understood, but this is not about which women will be sent for those untis to please the boys but to actually be a soldier there. I'm not 100% sure but I think I read somewhere there was actually the entire female unit during this war. Btw I'm Polish woman and I like this song. [edit was for some grammar mistake]
