I did this for 22 years the first two towers your after that you just get used to it. Now the highest one I've ever climbed 1501 and that was in Nebraska, but the first thousand but was an elevator that took me up. And the rest is history. But I was making 300 hour all I was doing was checking stability of the tower the stress.

All's the pilot is doing is bringing it up but the guys on the pole that's the hardest part. I know I did it for a living.

@@gregorywoodcock2472 I think it's interesting when I do search in the FAA database, you are not listed as a pilot Gregory!? I will agree that climbing that tower takes some balls-of-steel, but dropping that bolt thru the hole don't even come close to the skill level of this pilot! Let's not do our profession a disservice, if you really are a pilot, and understate what it takes to do what we do safely everyday as professional aviators!

It takes a special breed of men to do this unfortunately I haven't have been one of them, but I still got nervous on every climb it's just human nature and if somebody says they're not nervous they're full of s***.

Those guys putting in the bolts seem fucking disorganised: “Where are the washers and nuts”. “I thought you had them!”. To be frank, the mating pieces should have three stubby tapered male and female parts located at 120 degrees from each other so the part being lowered can be located accurately onto the three tapered male parts of the stationary plate, therein also accurately aligning all the bolt holes. Also, three holes should have three red tapered bolts (round drifts) put into them to further ensure the other holes are aligned for quick insertion of all the bolts. The red tapered drifts are then removed and replaced with bolts. What those blokes were doing took far too long!!!

I'm amazed at how much confusion there is about which hole to put the bolt through? Didn't they preplan this out? Not to mention no use of cordless impacts. I guess I'm the idiot?
@The_DuMont_Network
@The_DuMont_Network Ай бұрын
No issue re which bolt which hole. The antenna must be oriented exactly according to the compass. If it is rotated as little as one holel, cables don't connect, antenna pattern is out of spec, and more. Once the antenna is close, as many bolts as possible quickly go in to stabilize it. Then once it is secure, details such as washers and torque settings are attended to. They really want to get the chopper cast off as quickly as they can.

Yes I did it for twenty-two years and that has happened to a few guys believe it or not it's called nerves. No matter how many towers are climb you still get that it's normal. All you have to do is respect it 🙏 and pray you don't get in a electricals storm while you're up there. Now that's happened to me. But look at it like this at our really doesn't touch the ground it's crowded really great it's a loop around and it's insulated it doesn't touch hard to believe.
