Its not soft rock LOL. This is common practice. 3/4 crushed stone works well for this application. My rock bed is fully enclosed by the timbers which contains the stone. Compacting 3/4 is a waste of time. The guys should have put plywood down. In the end it came out great. Been there now for 6 years and perfect. So why are people so fucking rude?

They should have gotten 2 sheets of plywood to go under the wheels backing up onto them to keep from sinking into the gravel moving the front one to the back as you go. That’s to simple even for 3 men to think about. Of course I’m a women and we find a way to get things done the simple way

I am the owner. Did you watch the linked video that shows the preparation pictures? I used a full triaxle load of 3/4 crushed stone. 23 tons. Minimum 8" deep. Deeper on the lower side because I graded a slope in the ground so the water wouldn't pool. Also added a pvc drain at the lowest point. Shed has been there for over 5 years now and barely settled.

How did you decide what the minimum depth should be?

@@helihoot very nice shed/garage! I really like the design of yours. Looks really good now seeing it all together with the roof. Do you mind me asking what it cost 7 years ago? Don't mind all the jackasses in the comments keyboard critiques, i imagine it was tough trying to film, trying to make sure it's the way you want it, make sure the stone was on grade again, and getting it perfectly centered. Those trailers and mules are really nice! When we take any equipment into homeowners yards we use plastic 4x8 mats to not tear up their yard. The 4x8 sheets of 3/4 would do the same leap frogging the 2 sheets. Very nice building!

Like I said many times, those people (installers) are here one time and after they leave it's ours forever. So I like to make sure it's done right. @@bbrown6057 you can compact that stone and it will tear right up the way they drove on it with the weight of that building. If I would have known I would have trown a couple of sheets of plywood down under the mule. Ye it's really amazing. Those trailers are custom made in Lancaster, PA I believe.

I could have dropped and packed some dirt at the end there within minutes. They said no, its fine. Hey Mike (me), thank you for taking the time to record the event and post it. Sorry its shaky. I used a cell phone and was walking.

Make sure your pad sits for at least a month or run a sprinkler on it. They wouldn't have had such a hard time if the gravel pad had settled first. apeared to have just been done. That's one of the biggest things I hated. Everyone thinks you can put a pad in and use it the next day.

I did my research. 3/4 stone barely compacts. And even if i did that machine still would have done the same. they screwed up. If they let me add more dirt in the front like I suggested so they could have raised the shed higher they could have backed it the whole way with the truck. I had a backhoe there and dirt but they said no this is fine. Bottom line it's been there now for 8 years with no issues with the base.

No I did not know it was going to be a problem. t was only about 6" low but the shed was so long that by the time the extended it over the base, it started to hit. I wanted them to pull it out and let me put some dirt there to raise it up so they could back it all the way. Would have only taken a couple minute. I have a backhoe.

Not sure why so many people like to take jabs at the owner (me) without before politely asking why. A slab isnt the best thing to sit wood on. The wood draws moisture out of the slab and rots faster than sitting on a bed of stone that is always dry. The other reason I didn't go slab is I can easily relocate it if I choose. There is a set of hydraulically driven wheel under the trailer that lift it and go sideways.

I hear you but I had good reason not to go concrete, partly due to code issues with the township. One reason stone can be better is the 4x4 rails underneath sitting on drained rock is better than wood sitting directly on concrete.

@@barstad-9591 so you think you can compact 3/4" Delaware 57 stone with no dust in it, do you? You think that would've made any difference? Bedding stone will settle, but it takes a long time. On big job sites I've ran huge vibratory roller compactors over 3/4 stone. And afterwards pickup trucks would drive over it and make ruts like that mules little tire did. In smaller trenches where i was laying pipe and using being stone around the pipe I've tried compacting it with a tamp and that was useless. Until i added crusher run that has stone dust in it or select that was the only things i could get to compact. Unless it was ammesite and rolled to compaction. But bedding stone, no you're wasting your time thinking you'll get compaction from tamping it or rolling it. Now people have used 3/4 stone for driveways and after a good long while it will settle and compact if it's constantly driven over. But that's not what this is or was. As for this job, since the delivery guys didn't opt for the homeowner to add some dirt in the gully when they assessed where the building was going, and take him up on his offer. That's on them not him. As for the sinking mule, if they do this job daily i guarantee you this isn't the first time they've encountered 3/4"stone base. And in that event they'd have seen the back smaller tire of the mule make ruts. Not to mention this was a very large heavy building, bigger then most common 12x24 sheds and the ruts they made with the drive tires of the mule were also unacceptable. This man spent a day or more prepping raking grading screeding that stone to be level and on grade. And it was obvious by watching the video if the homeowner didn't grab the rake and relevel those ruts the delivery guys weren't going to, they were trying to continue backing up until the homeowner asked him to slow down and stop to get it right. All humans make periodic mistakes and have brain farts. But that doesn't mean every two finger typist needs to leave negative or derogatory comments to a man who simply uploaded a video that he wanted to take and share on the Web.

@@helihoot i grew up on Naamans Creek Rd couple houses down from 202. Went to concord elementary and garnet valley hs, that was back in the early 80s. Used to ride my bike to work on a farm shavertown rd to kirk rd. On the corner of kirk and Smithbridge was the farm. It's all gone now and huge houses. The house we lived in a cape cod my grandfather built in the early 1960s after my father sold it in the late 80s a few people bought and sold it and then a developer came in and picked the house up and moved it closer to the road in front of our neighbors house at the time and bought the other neighbors property and built quite a few same style attached cape cod townhouses like it Graystone Dr i think it's called now. Funny how it changes over time. Now I'm in Smyrna Delaware and doubt we could afford to move back up there. Between taxes and property values now, that's for the elite or those who bought years ago and held onto the property.

You need to find a local shed builder. They will take care of all of it. This shed was 10k. It's big.

helihoot I agree with the draining better with stone. But absolutely no issues with pressure treated lumber on concrete. Most stick built homes today use PT lumber as sill plates and basement framing.

They weren't supposed to drive over it. The idea was to back up all the way and drop it right where it needed to be. Unfortunately the ground and was about 8" too low where the truck backed in. I asked them to let me add dirt. Would have only taken a few minutes as I had the dirt and a backhoe. They said no it would be fine. Then that happened.

Do some research on compacting 3/4 crushed stone..

I would have used 3/4 minus road mix and compacted it over 3/4 drain rock or even pit run if I needed a water absorbing surface. I notice you did not even compact the soil outside the drain rock area. Looks like a good rain will have mud flowing onto your drain rock from the hillside.

I'm not questioning its longevity...and I'm happy for you that it's lasting. However, your videography is not the best (too much non-essential footage) and uneven shooting on individual steps, i.e., showing the heads of people doing something rather than what they are doing. And frankly I'm amazed you got it in place without it either falling off the trailer or removing a corner of one of the buildings you maneuvered it between and around. I guess I would have been more complimentary if you'd done a little more advance planning.
