My favorite Helio model. Eclectic looks. Fantastic performance. Thank you for sharing!

Had the pleasure of making 2 jumps from one way back in 88' . The pilot would point the nose straight down and pass us while we were in freefall! He would be loading up the next group before we even landed! He pointed out several patched bullet holes from covert missions into Laos. Really cool and unique. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting note: Mike was flying at the 88 Nationals in Muskogee OK when his tail wheel went south. At the same time Perry’s Stallion went in nose first when unable to recover from one such dive do to mechanical issues. Before the Feds had even arrived at the aircraft accident the tail wheel was on Mullins Stallion flying loads at the Nationals. I worked the National in video judging that year.

First, let me say it was instant love for the plane. No joke, stopped me dead in my tracks. Been shopping hard for a plane, or two, I’m currently parked at my own home airport KDVO Gnoss Field in Marin County, California, just flew myself. Second, proud to say I think I’m your 111th subscriber. Will be fun to look back on today when your 1000th sub comes. Now I’m going to shut up and watch the videos.

This is the only production bird flying, I believe. The other is an early prototype.

I jumped out of a Helio Stallion a few times. Just for kicks the pilot showed us how he could take off ACROSS a runway instead of along it. Now that’s STOL.

Are there any performance figures and more videos of this what apparantly is a very good aircraft. I have not been able to find any articles of this aircraft, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks.
@RR-pw5nbАй бұрын
IIRC there was a magazine called Air Progress that did an article on the Stallion decades ago. If I recall the performance stats correctly, not only did it have amazing STOL performance, it was also faster than hell at higher altitudes. I recall them saying it had top speed of over 250 mph up high. I looked fast even when parked.

Hello there! I am trying to reach out to the owner of this aircraft as there is a possibility that this is the plane my father used to fly us out of Cambodia in 1975! I am making a documentary about our escape from Cambodia and trying to find the plane that my father flew us out in. Any help reaching the current owner would be greatly appreciated!

This Stallion never flew overseas. It is also the last airworthy Stallion that I know of. Good luck in your research!

Reversible prop ?
@helioslow92442 жыл бұрын
Yes. I’d say every turboprop and even some big piston airplanes have reversible propellers.
@xzqzq2 жыл бұрын
@@helioslow9244 Reportedly, the AN-2 biplane has a reversible prop on seaplane variants.....Would be good fun seeing an AN-2 & reversible prop in STOL competitions, along with comparatively tiny bush planes....

You want to see a REALLY ugly airplane, take a look at the Fairey Gannett. It's a carrier based recon ship that was used by the Brits and the French. There's one on display at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson.
