fyi.. we got so busted by Fuji and had to pay 8000 fine for drifting in the parking lot! crazy.

So many comments from KZfaq know-it-alls saying "it's this and it's that". I'm not going to claim I know, because I don't. I didn't build the car. But all I'm going to say is that this is a professionally built car for D1GP where function matters more than form. I very much doubt they would run a setup that would damage any of the parts including the turbo all for a distinct sound. I'm pretty sure there will be a very good practical reason why it sounds the way it does.

No its not a Bov, its the turbo fluttering when the throttle snaps shut, the compressed air surges back into the turbo which flutters against the turbine creating the noise , the BOV makes a shhhhh sound when venting the compressed air. However aftermaket bovs limit the amount of air that is released hence why the turbo flutters. Most people think its the bov that makes the vshhhsututut sound, but its actually the turbo, the bov makes a vshhhh sound when venting.

Haha thats great. That compressor surge sounds amazing. I had it bad on my evo. Its not great for your turbo, but ill be damned if it doesnt sound like pure sex.

Looking at an 06 IS 250 myself.

he is right,that is the sound of the air that dosent make it past the throttle body, when the throttle is shut the air moving back to the engine from the turbo is pressurised and sent back to the turbo which makes the fluttering noise. also the bov makes a pshh sound from air pressure suddenly being relesed. sorry about my english.

easy there iron hide.. yeah I know, there's a blow off valve there, but its plumbed back, blocked off or put on a very tight setting to prevent any pressure from escaping.. I was saying that the bov does not achieve the tu tu tu sound, i never said there was an absence of it..

Both "turbo flutter" and "compressor surge" are caused by the compressor stalling out; they are both the same things.

Oh lordy guys its turbo flutter, every time the throttle closes the air has no where to go (no blow off valve, or its closed) so it bounces off the closed throttle body back to the turbo and makes a funny sound. sounds cool, until you realize you need a new turbo

youtube vl calais turber teaser mate, the bov doesn't achieve the sound, although it does play in a role in making it, it's the pipe and turbo that sets the tutututuut off.

some people dont like bov and prefer hearing compresser surge... Big intake and no BOV. That flutter is turbo back spool. .. but anyways compressor surge kills turbos. which kills money spent. blow-off valves are designed to protect your turbo, not to sound cool . but i personally dont use BOV.. i like flutter sounds.. lol but id recomend BOV if you got expensive turbo..

It sounds really cool and is usually associated with power, but it's really the boost pushing back through the turbo when the throttle closes. Not necessarily a good thing.

I think you also get fluttering when the spring inside of the BOV is too weak.

You can achieve a similar sound with out a dose pipe, it just wont have that high pitch tu tu tu tu.. it'll be dull, the dose pipe amplifies the sound of the surge, I don't know of any blow off valves that can achieve this sound.. As for the turbo, it does have the potential to harm it, but only over a long period of time. surge can't stop a turbo from spinning at 1000's of rpm and make it rotate the other way.. and its Japan, everything is produced domestically which means it's cheap to replace

Its compressor surge - because THERE IS NO BOV. In fact, this is exacty what happens when you're on boost without a BOV and you slam the throttle closed...
