Guide on how to Get rid of the black bars for hellblade 2. Use these commands in the engine.ini file
If you ONLY want to get rid of black bars use these commands. The video doesn't show the second part that says [script/engine.localplayer] this is a new command that keeps the wide fov when getting rid of the black bars.

If you want to get rid of chromatic abberation, film grain, lens distortion, and the black bars use this

FOV command Originally the game getting rid of black bars means changing it to 16:9 ratio so the field of view shrunk. add this line in the engine.ini to widen fov [/Script/Engine.LocalPlayer] AspectRatioAxisConstraint = AspectRatio_MaintainXFOV

Thank you very much! Your tutorial really helped me! I didn't mind the black bars much but it's a huge difference without them. The film grain was a little bit worse for my eyes but now it's all gone thanks to you.

I'll never understand games forcing certain ratio to players. I know this is how they intended you to play but regardless it should be an option. I dislike it and stopped playing Evil Within when it first released because of this. And I stopped playing hellblade 2 for the same reason. I get motion sickness and letterbox bars are painful for my brain. Thanks for your video. I'll reinstall and play again this gorgeous game.

They simply could make dynamic aspect ratio, gradual transition to 21:9 in cutscenes.

use dlaa or if running amd increase resolution, taa,dlss and fsr will soften the image considerably at resolutions lower than 1440p

Worked but rain disappeared :/. Now In the part where you fight the slaver or when draugrs attack the village I dont have rain there anymore. Only in cutscene but during gameplay rain disappears.

it changes it to 16:9 so the fov gets shrunk but you can add this command to widen the fov after getting rid of the black bars [/Script/Engine.LocalPlayer] AspectRatioAxisConstraint = AspectRatio_MaintainXFOV

Absolute legend! Graphically speaking, Hellbade 2 is a tour de force. Adding black bars to a game like this is like putting training wheels on a Hayabusa. (Face Palm) Film grain = rubbing Vaseline across a 4K monitor. rubbish IMHO

cool now i can actually play the game tomorrow. i dont care about field of view i just wanted those bars gone. it breaks all immersion for me seeing them on my screen. do you know if their is any cut scenes that are negatively impacted by them being zoomed in. obviously for this type of game it suck to mis something visually from being zoomed but in on.

at 4k with framegen and DLAA on i get about -10 fps decrease without black bars (RTX 4080,i7 13700KF)

it decreases the fps quite a bit^^ about 15-20% I would say. but I just switched from fsr quality to balanced and I don't really see a difference

@@BryceCzirr-jz7ju devs could be adding blackbar overlay on top of existing 16:9 pixels. If they using overlay that mean there wont be any fps difference between with and without blackbar. That's why i asked 🙄

It does not remove the black bar it only zoom in the game and you get to see less on the screen just to hide the black bar. I took 2 screenshots, 1 with the black bar and 1 without and you can see there is more "world" on each side.

That is the whole point, if you want to see more on each side, you have to have the cinematic bars. This fix is literally doing what it is suppose to. Less view left and right side without black bars , more view with cinematic bars. The only true fix is getting a wider monitor

if you are on steam and want 16:9 ratio with higher fov you can use flawless widescreen to change it www.flawlesswidescreen.org Right now i dont think they have it officially supported for hellblade 2 so you have to download a plugin mega.nz/folder/BFhw0aCI#lt53MMZ5Cqebqji6yGL0-Q (version 1.0.25) for us gamepass users, theres nothing right now. someone did upload the games full cvars on nexusmods, so i'm jsut gnna skim through it and see if theres a fov tweak we can use.

so weird i dont have nearly the options he has. no engine for sure. im on windows just like he is. he isnt wrong because ive seen others do it the same way he is unfortunately i dont have engine in my gdk folder.

There should be two options to remove the bars: Pan & Scan (like this mod) and Fill (extend view on top and bottom). I would love my games to use the full area of my expensive TV, thank you. All this is annoying enough in movies. Oh yes, and it should be possible to deactivate film grain (seriously, WTF) and this nasty chromatic abberation. Can't use those mods on Geforce Now, so I wait until I buy it until they included the options to disable this crap.

My game came without the black bars, I found it strange... I use an ultrawide monitor, I wanted to activate them because I really like that ;-;

If you use ulttrawide monitor the game detects your aspect ratio and doesn't add the bars because it doesn't need to... that's why you don't see them, people with standard 16:9, we see the black bars, as the game is thought to be seen this way, because its a cinematic experience rather than a regular game.

Why has this not worked for me? I have the steam version and used windows then Engine so I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong compared to everyone else since they seem to have no issues getting it to work. usually I'm good at getting new settings to work but I'm having the derp right now i suppose lmao. EDIT: Well never mind ADHD brain go brr, I figured it out! I realized what i did wrong and corrected it lmao. thank you so much for this :)
