Senua's saga, like Scorn is more an interactive showcase of visual mastery, than a traditional game. you can clearly sense the studios behind these games do not care about an advanced or flawless combat system, an intricate skill tree or microtransactions. These entries really start to blur the boundaries between videogames and movies, and I'm all for it. Granted, they being displayed right next to Call of Duty or Fortnite in the Game Stores is setting the wrong expectations.

Expectation plagues the modern gamer in my opinion. We need a revival of that old, innocent attitude when we just sat back and let the artists speak to us through their art. Now people will review-bomb a game because the main character doesn't meet their expectation of beauty.

@@DJ-wl5qo My point is that sometimes it's better to shut off one's expectations of what a game should be and just let it speak to you. Not every game is designed to meet 10 standards. Some take creative risks, i.e, they're trying to be something new. As in the case with Scorn. Some reviewers fail to understand that, hence the mixed reviews. As for review-bombing a game because the character isn't gay enough or beautiful enough, that's just taking expectation too far. Don't get met wrong, it's fine not to relate to something, but making too much fuss about it as if it's a serious metric by which a game should be rated is problematic in my opinion.

@massinirev2283 100% we absolutely do. Dragons Dogma 2 and Deathloop both suffered from this death by expectation, too. They were both fresh experiences, works of art, and got shit on by the general gaming public. Same as this game.

Seriously, he missed the equivalent of half the game. More than that even with mono audio. Like the 10-draugar-long fight is as much music video as it is game, and he missed all of the testosterone-full wicked track escalations with his mono audio. Man paid for a virtual concert and then just listened to the entire thing with one ear in the worst audio quality a person can manage. Overall he has such a antagonistic and nitpicky mindset going into the game that completely prevents him from engaging with it halfway. Like immediately when the game starts he starts running and never walks (except when the game absolutely forces him to walk). I think it comes from his image being a guy who is unfazed by things. He's like the dumbasses who walk thru a haunted house and laugh at everything and make jokes and makes sure everyone knows he's not scared (haunted house actors unanimously hate these people). I think that a similar mindset is probably why so many people hated this game (to be fair some people can't handle slow games for whatever reason, it's understandable).

@@thecaptain6520 I think Kojima is one of the most vindicated developers today, everyone gave him shit for he's games being like movies when Sony's games like Last of Us gets the most praise for it. At least Kojima's cutscenes are skippable and 90% of the Codec calls are optional.

Because people love haunted houses and esoteric movies. Is it really that hard to understand? Also this game has some of the best art direction and attention to detail I've seen in a game. Notice how the fight scenes are all very evocative of a well-choreographed stageplay fight? That's because the entirety of this game is a 5 hour long, beowulf style epic haunted house stageplay saga. I swear people don't care for innovation anymore they just want more of the same thing over and over and over again. Also walking sims have had an extremely loyal fanbase ever since Another World in 1991 so if you haven't tried any at this point or just don't like them idk what to tell you

It's hellish, but not Dark Souls kind of hellish. You feel the hell in the set piece, not in the difficulty of the game. Both the first and second games are cinematic showcases. They're not trying to be action games, and shouldn't be judged by such standards.

Honestly pretty disappointed with this game. I don’t even care about the playtime I just hate games that don’t respect the medium and try too hard to be movies. Like just make a fucking movie atp if the cutscenes and “ultra immersive cinematic content” are all it has going for it.

I won't say I entirely disagree, and I haven't played the second. But the whole appeal of the first game was immersion in having the voices talking to me. A movie would absolutely not capture the essence of that, because we are a witness to movies. As the player, the voices are directed at you as much as they are the protagonist of the story. Even with weak gameplay, I became invested in Senua because I was walking in her shoes. All else aside, I think the price point might be the only real issue I have here. And unfortunately I think that's down to Microsoft.

We opened Pandora’s box by encouraging to prioritize graphics and cutscenes (Death Stranding, God Of War 2018, Spider-Man 2, etc). This made way for people who just to make movies to start working on video games.

@@tdarassp Yes but that’s regarding hellblade 1 which had way more going for it and was actually fun to play as opposed this triple A slopfest which is the gaming equivalent of walking down an empty hallway with pretty lights. Gameplay aside it’s just an aggressively mediocre game with nothing more to offer than its visuals. Even the story is incredibly boring and uninteresting. Just pure style over substance

Idk if you've played the game or you just watched this play thru but the cave is most fans of this game's favorite part. Contrary to what people claim there is a *massive* difference between watching a walkthrough of this game and playing it yourself. As equal a difference as watching a recorded tour of a haunted house vs walking through one yourself. And headphones matter, a *lot* But if you watched this to get a feel for the game and didn't like it's vibe that's totally fair. If you're interested in trying a walking sim I'd personally recommend Another World, What Remains of Edith Finch, or the first Hellblade (senuas sacrifice).

Could care less about graphics, most games I play currently are cheapo indies. But I enjoyed the first installment of Hellblade. Although the new one is passable, it was not very good. As an Xbox series X owner, (TBF mostly pc gamer, but I'm not a xbox hater) games go to Microsoft to die. I can't think of a studio Microsoft bought and made better.

I couldnt care less about graphics in games (my favorite game is Minecraft, and I only stopped using a CRT TV in 2017), but this game made me understand, finally, why production is a super important tool in game design. The choreography, acting, and set design all work together so well to create what feels like a specially designed concert/play/haunted house designed for you to play through. The realistic style of the game helps immerse you in that vibe. It really does feel like a haunted house with superb acting and production. I'm the opposite of you, I liked the first Senua game, but I wasn't crazy about it. But the game immediately became my second favorite game of all time and I will certainly be returning to it once a year around Halloween time, like a good movie marathon.

Dont understand how people are so against this style of game... like if i found this game as a kid, I'd have fallen in love with it. i love games that feel like a movie. As a kid, i always walked away pleasantly, surprised thinking about how my parents would never even understand how incredible games can be at telling a story

You have to appreciate art when you experience it not just gameplay action and high delivery expectations from a story game that won’t be like money hungry multiplayer games that most so called gamers enjoy more nowadays

And if you are complaining about the price then you shouldn’t be buying it that means you aren’t good with finances if you dislike the price of a game. There’s been plenty of other games that were way more shorter prices about the same it will never change. Go back to your COD and Fortnite

If that's not your cup of tea, then it’s best to find a game that suits your preferences rather than criticizing this one for not fitting into your preferred genre. It’s unfair and quite frankly pathetic to shame a game simply because it’s different and cinematic. The game is called "Senua's Saga," not just Hellblade 2, because it’s about experiencing Senua’s story. You are not Senua, and you cannot mold her into your own version; she is a pre-designed character. If you’re looking for a game that allows you to create and personalize your own character, consider playing BG3 or Skyrim.

Definetly one of the best games of this year, the cutscenes are outstanding, the storytelling is great and the voices in her head really elevate the horror factor of the game. Its so full of love most game companies today just make a quick cash grab but this one really stands out

I’m sorry but this is not a real game. It’s a pseudo movie that focuses on everything but gameplay. A lot of games are slowly falling for this direction. @@ryanemms I’m into narrative driven games like Telltale, but the difference is that they at least provide player choice and don’t act like a pretentious movie. Hellblade you walk from Point A to Point B, solve braindead puzzles, have maybe a few minutes of clunky combat in between, and you’re rewarded with a cutscene to a story that’s not even that great but the pretty visuals are supposed to make up for it. The only thing it’s got going for it is the headphones experience but that gets old after a while because the voices won’t STFU.

Naah! Death Stranding lets you roleplay as an otter. That game is about travelsal first and foremost, but the array of options you have to try on your way is positively wild.

7 years in making for 5 hours of walking sim....this is absurd, games like these are the reason why single player games get hate. Wheres games like Zelda TOTK ,Elden Ring, Hades, Baldurs Gate 3 are constantly proving there's future for Single Player games....

i dunno what you guys are talking about, this game is awesome. 50 bucks for a 5 hour game is fine, people pay 20 bucks to see 1.5 hour long movies all the time and nobody bats an eye at that lol besides, if you don't have gamepass, you're kinda silly

I loved the game too. Rushed through and it still took me close to 8 hours. Yes that's still on the short side, but my point is the people claiming they did it in 3 to 5 hours are a little suspicious imo
