@@MichelleOfoegbuI had a son before marriage at 19, we got married when we wanted. I’m now 34, have a healthy daughter (12) too, I’m a professor & we’ve been married 14 years. People talk no matter what you do, just be the best version of you, then you have nothing to worry about. I best advice I can give is people should stay on their own lane, focusing on their journey, not drift onto others whilst nosing. Ironic MOST the couples who got married, “The right way” we know. Are divorced, most have kids too etc & always ask re our thankfully successful marriage, beautiful & healthy children, stable careers. So marrying out of wedlock worked out fabulous for us🙏🧿

I get so annoyed with parents like that 4th grader's mum. Going to 11 academies won't benefit her as much as it will bring her problems. Does the mum really think the little girl will become a successful woman that will look back and think "i'm so glad i did all those extra-curricular activities rather than having a real childhood"??
@cloudsjoo
@cloudsjoo 9 жыл бұрын
Mario Duenas I do agree to what you said, academically these academies will help her (they did say she's a top student) but going to 11 academies will bring her more harm than what the high-level education is worth. She could cut those down by a half and she would probably benefit much more, both mentally and physically.
@eenaringo
@eenaringo 9 жыл бұрын
Mario Duenas 1. You misunderstood the little girls concern. She said she gets less than 8-9 hours of sleep on average because of all the homework she has. 2. The little girl is neglecting her body by not sleeping enough (not her fault) 3. Her mother is depriving her from a normal childhood 4. All human minds work differently. Excessive homework, and sleep deprivation may not have affected you in your childhood, but that's not the case for all.
@eenaringo
@eenaringo 9 жыл бұрын
Mario Duenas Uhm so you're basically saying those with extreme mental disorders such as wendigo psychosis, or body dysmorphic disorder, their minds work the same as regular healthy human beings, and perceive things the same. I don't know about anyone else, but that doesn't sound right to me Getting back on topic, I noticed you didn't mention any of the other points. Care to express your opinion, or are we done here.
@eenaringo
@eenaringo 9 жыл бұрын
You did not respond to my second point. You went off track and started talking about the human brain, and the capacity to learn or whatever. Also, my third point was not about neglecting. I said "Her mother is depriving her from a normal childhood". Neglecting and depriving are two different things. And I also did not mention sleeping in that point. Lastly, if anyone's points are senseless it is yours. Your ability to respond to my points without going off topic is lacking, and it seems there is no getting through to you, so I'm not going to waste my time replying anymore. I have way more important things to do than sit and argue about things that I really don't give two shits about. K bye

Mario Duenas I believe that she doesn't have to go to any academy at all, she should go to the ones that she maybe likes. I never went to after school classes, that had to do with subjects we learn in school for instance english or so. I only went to dance, basketball and movie making. I still have really high grades, one of the "legend" schools in Stockholm accepted me and I speak fluent English (+ I'm almost fluent at 5 languages). So she really doesn't have to go to any hagwons, if she want to fine and I know it benefits but she could become smart with out the stress of after school classes. She could study herself and find a good routine for herself. :)

You can't sacrifice childhood for the sake of education. Even a child is academically gifted nature it, but don't try to turn a normal 9 year old into something she isn't. She will just burn out and become unhappy and resentful.

To Shin Dongyup to actually speak about a different sexual orientation and to accept it, and say that South Korea is becoming more accepting of it, it's really great and uncommon tbh. For him to say that homosexuality really does exists in South Korea where a lot of people believe that it doesn't and that it comes from western coulture, it's a big step IMO. Idk, I just felt really good hearing and seeing how they react it to it so normally :) Good job, yay !

Honestly I think that Academies can benefit children if in the right amounts and actual subjects that they are interested in and will help them learn and improve in whatever, they enjoy. However, that mom went overboard with 11 for an 11 year old is too much and some lessons like history, politics, essay, creative maths are unbelievably unnecessary until the child gets to like year 8 in secondary school.

I completely empathise with that 4th grader. In my country, English and Maths are the two ''basic'' academies that everybody goes to. My busiest time was 7th grade when I had to go to 7 academies throughout the week, 2-3 per day. I remember dropping half of those soon after because it was just crazy and I was 13. I can't believe what a 10 year old must feel having to go to like 7+ academies per day. The mother is excessive and in the wrong here and believe me, the child is going to be fed up much sooner than the mother thinks. What on earth is the use of politics, economy, world history etc at 10? Also, the little girl is obviously the artistic type so the mum shouldn't try to hold her back by forcing her to go down a different path.

1st concern.. I would NOT like it if a guy acted all nice when we were dating but then showed his true colours as a manipulative, controlling person after marriage. I wouldn't like it if he gets to do whatever he wants all the time and I don't get to do what I want or even get a say. I could live with compromises we made together, like change a habit that he doesn't like but also I would expect him to try to change a habit I didn't like him to have, if any. It doesn't mean we have to be like 'i'll stop if you stop'. There just has to be some good reasons. So I would imagine it would be same for a guy too. He wouldn't like to be with someone who is always manipulating things to get her way and make him do and agree with what she wants. Sometimes when a concern like this comes in, the partner has a reason for doing what they do and I could then sympathise with their side of the story, but here the lady in the first concern doesn't have a reason. She just seems to like keeping him in line and in control him the way she likes. Telling him 'no, don't!' every time as if he's a dog. /shakes head / I really dislike someone with this type of mentality in a relationship.

Study what you are interested in, and you will have lots of fun on the way to success. A kid who don't know anything about economics, politics, geography, history will become a successful singer if she's passionate and focuses in arts or singing. On the other hand, a kid taking 11 courses and barely have enough sleep will ended up being an ordinary worker with higher mortality.

They should be very thankful I'm not running wild! Cause my uncle did the same thing to my older cousin and lets just say pretty much every guy knows her in college or the freaking district and she goes to every party and does drugs the whole lot!! Anyway the husband and wife are crazy like she's selfish that's not fair your husband is your equal he should be able to go out and enjoy himself and hug you and kiss you it's not gonna kill these are the Korean girls that's give the rest a bad name even tho I'm only half Korean .. SK is a country with one the highest employee work hours, but is one of the lowest in productivity. Its a cultural thing to over work yourself. Its also part of the reason why they have such a high suicide rate and why people there drink so much. I feel bad for that little girl, but you see the other kids. She goes to bed at 12, but they are in bed at 11 so there's no big difference between her and them. Its funny to me how much they value people who study abroad, but they don't implement the more relaxed educational atmosphere of other countries.

I know that SK has a high rate of suicide because there are statics taken. SK has one of the highest suicide rates in the industrialized world. Of course there are various reasons why people kill themselves, but stress from overwork or the need to succeed is a huge problem. I've never been to SK, so I don't pretend like I know a lot about the culture. However it seems like in SK they don't associate functioning alcoholism with people. I have seen more than on concern on this show where a person to my American eyes clearly has an alcohol problem, but the guests and audience don't find it to be a concern. I've even seen concerns where a Dr was brought in, and they are told all the bad things that are happening to their body from excessive drinking. In the US those same people would be advised to join AA or go to rehab. But on the show they are told to just cut back. I'm not saying everyone in SK is an alcoholic, I'm saying that because drinking is such a big part of the culture its harder to see when someone needs help.

I know that asian parents have an high expectation of their children but 12 academies? I know she wan't well for her child but that way too much. Yea she is good at studying but what is the point if she has not interest and is not happy? Children should be able to play a little creativity and imagination, so what if it's normal for kids to go to academies? You want her to be normal like other kids? Not everyone is meant to be great and love studying. If she has no childhood it will effect her when she gets older. Seeing more of the Korean Culture like if you don't look or dress a certain way you are judged, you HAVE to do everything to make your senior happy or it will effect you at work and having extremely high expectations in education. These were a few things that caused people stress and depression in Japan, it used to be the highest rate in suicide now it's repeating in South Korea. It's just really sad. It's good to work hard but happiness is also important to.

I just graduated college so this was at least 12 years ago. I can't believe how intense it gotten now for the younger kids. When I immigrate to the USA, i suddenly have no academies. I went back home to visit my best friend 2 summers ago, and when I asked her what we did together, she said she can't remember much because I was always at the academies. And now when i think back about my childhood, I can't rmb much except for the memories with my friends in the US. I really feel sorry for this girl. The message her friends said really hit home. lol, you don't understand the way universities work in Sk. There are only 3 or so universities in SK that increase your chance of getting a job. Many graduates are unemployed, simply because companies want either foreigners or people who went to the top universities. the mom just wants the kid to have a high chance of employment. Is that really so bad? It's not like she's forcing her. You almost have no real benefits of having a 'fun' childhood

Okay, it's actually true that elem. school students go to more academies more than middle/high school students because they dont know what they are good at or what they are interested to do. but seriously, they have six years to figure it out! why does she have to all that things every week? i mean, not many korean schools have band/orchestra/choir/sports teams, so they gotta do by themselves. so, going art and taekwondo academies are understandable. especially young kids need more opportunities to get closer to art/music/sports. but econ, gov, his.... she doesnt need it now.. if she are suck at it, and having 60, 50, then she needs it. but.. wow 4th grade social study is not that deep you know. 4th grade's regular school classes are done by 2:40~3:00. 6hr of extra class... ok, whatever ma'am.

The 4th grader's concern is a huge problem in Korea. It seems parents simply do not understand how children behave. What caught me the most is when her mother thought that cutting the amount of academies she goes to will somehow make her study less or not do as well in school. This is completely false. Regardless of how many academies the child goes to, if the child refuses to learn, she won't be the top of her class. It doesn't matter how many one-on-one tutors she has, all the information will go through one ear and come out the other. But obviously, this 4th grader is very responsible for her age, studying and doing all her homework even when she's so tired. Cutting academies for a student like her will make her even do better in school, as she can focus more on school activities and socialize with children her age. Being able to socialize and talk to other people is extremely important at any job, and it's not something that can be taught in academies.

I feel bad for the husband on the first concern... I feel like there's always someone overpowering the other in a relationship. It's mostly women now. Sorry but to me, women are mostly the problem. They expect this and that, but if a man says he expected something from the woman, she'll say so you don't love me? Leave me then if you don't like me this way. That's feminism at it's finest. I think people are too focused, they think someone needs to wear the pants in the relationship.

Nah its not because of feminism. Some women has always been manipulative like that. I've seen it in my country too where feminism influence is not so much interfered with our culture. There is this women i (barely) knew. We just happen rode in the same car (mine). She proudly says so much double standarda it sickens me. And the justification is always "because i'm a woman"

8 have to agree with you but like the others I don't think it's feminism its women's double standards and manipulation which is not fair, I think some men need to grow a back bone and some women need to quit justifying everything with "I am a women"

I agree... The wife really pushes all the blame to the husband. Tbh I feel bad for the husband because he didn't know she was like this until he married her...but because he's so nice he still listens to her. She needs to understand that the husband also has his own problems,she's not the only ones who's troubled and upset.

11 academies it's really too much for a girl of her age. I can understand that the mom wants her daughter to do well and learn new things, but if she keeps pushing her like this, the child won't grow up happy. The childhood is so important in the developement of someone, doing well at school is very important but enjoying life and making new experiences is also important.

That 3rd concern was to strange. Lighten up there boss and let your friend/employee live his own life. Kinda creepy. The little girl in the 2nd concern was so cute and smart. Mom needs to lighten up also. My god how is a kid supposed to keep up and not get totally depressed with that overwhelming schedule? Let her have some time to be a child.

I think the second concern was child abuse. The girl was much smaller than her friends. Lack of food and sleep will mess with her body. She should be getting her period soon, but I doubt that will happen. I taught that wonderful age for 30 years. 11 year old girls are awesome. All three of her friends were quite discerning. Puberty and boys will happen and then their lives get messed up. The poor girl needs to eat, sleep and have silly fun with her friends. Mother isn't thinking about her, she's thinking about other mothers. I think the girl should have an academy free year. The elderly woman guest is disgusted by the situation, and I agree with her.

That poor girl in the second concern. I used to not come until 9, and even though it was just running, band, and drumline, I was completely worn out. Add academics to that, I'd be such a mess. My mom urged me to quit one, and her mom wants to add another? Oh my goodness

I wish the 4th grader's mum would be more concerned about her daughters mental health rather than her academic life. Yes it's important to work hard in school put not up to the point where you're loosing sleep and appetite and in the future, this girl will not thank her for all the stress and as a mother I hope she realizes this soon.

I think all Asian parents wants their child to be ahead on the lessons but 11/12 academies are too much. I'm Asian and I'm pretty good at school (average). I am 14 yrs old now and when I was elementary, I attended an academy for math because I wanted to attend it. She shouldn't force the child to go to different academies that the child might not like.

Both men in the last concern seem like they like each other. The one who wrote in the concern seems more feminine than the other guy by a mile! As much as I try to, I can't see him being forcefully masculine about anything. The whipped husband is also a sad case. Just go buy everything you want and tell her you're the one earning the money and you're going to spend it as you see fit. If that occasionally means pissing her off, then welcome to life. The little girl is obviously overburdened and I seriously doubt that the mother is going to let her quit anything. I feel it's more likely that she WILL sign her up for music lessons on Friday. After all, Mother already stated that she considers this workload AVERAGE which is utterly insane. It's nice to take extra classes in an area of interest.. but a 11 year old child talking politics? Get a grip!

Wow. Although I sympathize, I don't think it's much to complain about. Since 5th grade, I wasn't able to go to bed until around midnight, but I also had to wake up at 5:00 every morning, too. I don't think it's that big of a concern if so many people share it.
@backthen4449
@backthen4449 9 жыл бұрын
just because so many people share it does not mean it's a problem. there are lots of problems that people share, such as discrimination, depression, etc. if we said "oh slavery isn't a problem because so many people share it" when it was alive, then it would be a huge issue. to me, it's a huge problem that many of these young children are forced to live like this. how long is it until they start to tire of it and give up altogether? extra question: why were you unable to go to bed until midnight, and why did you have to wake up at 5?

Is the mum in the 2nd concern actually joking or what, wanting the little girl to do ANOTHER subject in the academy on top of the 11/12 she already does as well as going to school? She'll end up in hospital because of exhaustion. The little girl should've been allowed to drop more than the 3 subjects she chose tbh, if they already teach the subject - like Maths, Science etc - at school, then why do the same subject at an after school academy too?
@backthen4449
@backthen4449 9 жыл бұрын
because she needs to study extra to better understand the subject and get a better score on the exams. better scores for exams usually equal a greater chance of getting into a top college, and a top college is good to get a good job. this is the sad part of south korea, and this is not uncommon along children her age these days.

Honestly saying, taking extra lessons are good, IF you are weak in the subject and you want extra knowledge willingly. But for an eleven year old child, don't you think taking 11/12 extra subjects is too much? Sure, if you're taking language lessons like English and Chinese, it would be okay, assuming you'll benefit from the future. But politics and economy? For goodness sake she's a eleven year old child. What reason would she would she even need to know about how politics are going on today? Knowledge is gotten through interest and to be honest, if you forcefully try and remember/focus on stuff you have no interest on or aren't very willing to learn, let me tell you it'll all be a waste of money. She may remember now, but in the future she won't. Just stuffing so much stuff into your brain has a limit you know. Furthermore, for kids it's too overwhelming and like you should just let them be, let them do what they want and when they are slightly older, maybe about 14/15, you can start getting extra lessons in weak/interested subjects. No hate towards Korea/Koreans but they are way too harsh towards their kids and they encourage them to be competitive and such under the most likely circumstances of wanting to be able to show off their kid, under the pretence of wanting them to have a good future. Statistics do show that children who are forced to commit to their studies at a young age are more likely to commit suicide compared to those who aren't forced to be committed. Or in the unlikely case, where the kid becomes successful, as a lawyer or an engineer or even a doctor, what's the point? He/She may not be happy and if you aren't happy, how is life worth living? And I'd like to clear up one more thing, people all around the world think that stereotypical Asians are all nerdy, smart when that's not really true. All this is just putting pressure on kids and also parents to fulfil that stereotype which to me, is just plain BS. Say if you're an American, you have to have blonde hair and blue eyes. You can't have normal brown eyes and brown hair. This type of stereotypes has caused a lot of peer pressure, in the case of wanting to change to fit in, in the fear of not being popular, cases such as binge eating, bulimia, anorexia just to fit into the stereotype given. Many people have been bullied because they aren't "normal" in the sense of the stereotype and many commit suicide too and go into depression because of such antics. So, let me say this, just because you don't fit in the stereotype given whether you're an Asian, American, European or African, doesn't mean you're abnormal

Why does that girl have to do all those extra classes?! She should reconsider dropping English though. English get's you around the world. Not only at countries where english is the mother language but also at countries were english is the 2nd or 3rd language. If she wants to know more about history, she can just read books out of interest in her free time. So yeah if I was the parent, She'd only do English and Taekwondo. Although she said she likes to play soccer with her friends..
