I just ordered the SimpliSafe doorbell, since I have their security system. They have a 60 trial period in which it can be returned, with them paying the return postage. Previously, I had the original Ring doorbell, but it no longer connects. I was never impressed with the original Ring, though newer ones appear to be much improved. I would consider the Nest if the SimpliSafe doesn't work out. Thanks for the review. Very informative.

Thanks for this video. I was looking for a video doorbell that I can hear from my office (which is far from my chime box on the second floor?!), and since I already have some Google mini's, I can just put one in my office and be able to hear when someone rings the doorbell. Also thanks for the comments about the SimpliSafe doorbell. We have SimpliSafe at our other house (which we're planning to move back into this summer). It's been a couple of years since you made this video, but I'll definitely check out whether the audio problems have been fixed before I decide whether to add that or go with the Nest doorbell at that house too.

Great video, thank you. I have Simplisafe but decided on google nest. My doorbell is far to the left of where guests would stand for the front door. Do you happen to know if there is a tilt fixture that can be added to angle the google nest?

I've had the Nest Hello doorbell for a couple years now since it first came out. I love it and have been more than pleased! I also have 4 Nest Indoor Cams, 2 Nest Outdoor Cams, 3 Nest Protect Smoke/CO2 Detectors, 2 Nest Learning Thermostats and 3 Nest Yale Locks. I absolutely love the entire Nest eco system and all the products are high quality and just work flawlessly! My only disappointment is that I have a legacy alarm system and have been wanting to move to a DIY alarm system for a while now. I was looking very seriously at the Nest Secure Alarm system, but Google has recently discontinued it. Ugh! So now I'm considering SimpliSafe, Ring and a couple others. I really like what I see from Ring with all the add-ons they have for cameras and smart lighting, but I don't want to have to redo all my wonderful Nest products! Decisions, Decisions! Ugh!

I have full SS system with cameras on all entrances to my house. My only dislike is the doorbell audio to talk. When I press the microphone to talk, if the person starts talking before my audio is complete, I hear nothing they said. Its quite annoying. My go to Nest or Arlo doorbell.

How was your experience with the motion detection between the two doorbells?

I realize that you posted this 2 years ago but I would really like to know how to adjust the volume of the audio . It sounds like the whole neighbourhood can hear the conversation unless I whisper 🤔.

turn off the motion detection for the door bell for 24 hours and as long as it connected to wifi, it should update on its own.

I found this very interesting. I have had a SimpliSafe system for almost 2 years and am pleased with it. A week ago I added the doorbell cam and noticed the older firmware issue also. I contacted SimpliSafe and was assured their tech department would update the firmware from their end within 48 hours. Nothing so far. And your comments about that have me concerned. I guess I should have researched this more before purchasing. If I understand you, there is no issue with using your SimpliSafe system for security and the Nest doorbell cam as observation, etc? For some reason, in my mind, I thought a doorbell cam had to work WITH the alarm system. Also, I have no Google devices. Your thoughts?

My simplisafe is a complete piece of junk. At first I was getting notifications every minute saying there was motion. Even after blocking out almost everything. After that the thing just never connected. I have wifi going at 144mbs at the doorbell. Complete junk.

If you had all this investment monetarily from all the equipment in the Google system in the first place, even the cloud space fee,, why would you go out and purchase a simplicam doorbell?

Mine is complete garbage. Every video in the timeline is incomplete.

Agreed SimpliSafe system is easy to install. It's a good monitoring system but for the poor quality of their video doorbell camera from internet connectivity standpoint. I did purchase it along with the Video Doorbell Camera but the camera goes offline (no live stream) with a message 'Disconnected from the internet' every 2-3 minutes. SimpliSafe attributed it to my poor Wi-Fi network when in fact I have 5 GHz-600 MBS speed bandwidth along with six Google Nest Wi-Fi routers. When I complained to SimpliSafe, they asked me to split my Wi-Fi network into 2.4ghz and 5ghz since SimpliSafe doorbell camera works only with 2.4ghz bandwidth (this they do NOT say anywhere). I did the split and connected the SimpliSafe doorbell camera to the 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network but in vain. The camera went offline after 2 minutes as ever before. They sent me a replacement camera which too had the same 'going offline every 2-3 minutes' issue. I repeatedly called SimpliSafe and asked for a good solution. They had the cheek to say I should move my internet router (which is about 10 feet away from the doorbell camera) closer to the doorbell camera. That was the last straw that broke the camel's back and I canceled my subscription service. While the rest of the SimpliSafe system works, the doorbell camera does not since it's outdated. Today's doorbell cameras support dual bandwidth (2.4ghz and 5ghz) and SimpliSafe lags behind, thanks to their outdated technology. I am currently using the SimpliSafe doorbell camera without the video recording feature from the web interface (smart app disabled due to my monthly subscription cancelation) though the the camera goes offline every 2-3 minutes but then I am not paying $27.99 for the poor quality of the camera. I can't return the equipment either since I am past the product return window. I am now inclined to go in for the Google Nest Doorbell since I already have the Google WiFi Mesh Network of six routers and hopefully I'll not run into the poor wi-fi connectivity issue when I install it.
