You can tell how good Mainoo is by how the opposition react when he has the ball. His close control and body strength means he's press resistant like you see from top players. If you close him he'll whip it around you and receive it back like Scholes used to and take you out of the game. With good coaching and good mentality this lad can go far.

To be fair to Onana he made a great reaction save early doors from a corner that was given despite the West Ham player clearly being offside. Solid performance. Rasmus again dropping back and getting involved. We still need to work on getting the ball to him more often, especially from the wingers. Two chances one goal today and that stemmed from Casemiro's determination.

Finally! MUFC realized you got to win second ball and win it higher up the pitch. The desire to win back balls lost high up the pitch in the second half won this match for us. Finally we had players who were willing, ready and able to fight for challenges and to win back lost passes and tackles and that made it easier to mount counter attacks and keep the Happy Hammers honest. We haven't fought for balls in the opponent's half for an eon and that meant we spend more time trying to defend attacks flooding into our half. All the great teams fight for second ball and win the ball back early which helps their momentum... Perhaps... perhaps.. we've finally figured this out!
