Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor's house to figure out what horrible secrets he's hiding in the basement. The neighbour didn’t want to do any harm, he was just sad and scared, that’s what the shadow represents; fear, from the capture cutscenes, we see a story, the neighbour lost his wife, his children, he was too scared of being alone, so he kidnapped other kids, he was too busy avoiding his fears that he never found the strength to face them

Are we playing as his son? I know the boy killed his sister and it shows him throwing someone in the basement. But alot of it seemed to be a dream like act 3. So are we his son and he's having nightmares of trying to escape or are we trying to save his son that he locked in the basement.? I felt like the shadow is his son.

When I was about to complete the game and I got to the part where the neighbor was trapped in the house I didn’t even wanna continue. I wanted to stay with him the whole time, so I stayed there because I don’t want to leave the neighbor after everything that happened to him.

The kid is the main character when he was young. You see him at the very start of the game. Its not the neighbor when he was young.

That isnt a demon . Thats his son . His son has lived all his life in the basement . In the act 1 the person that he was trying to handicap was his son . The shadow thing is the ghost of his son thats died maybe because of not eating anything . The reason why he handicapped his son is that his son has killed her daughter ( the boy killed her sister )

His son kills his sister ( the son kills daughter ) because she was looking same as her mom . After that neighbor locks him in the basement . If you remember the act 1 we saw neighbor fighting with someone . The person that neighbor was fighting with was his son . After that he saw us and scared of us to call police . I suggest you go and search on the youtube 👇 (All the cutscenes of hello neighbor ) and click on the video that is 20min

you dont get the meaning behind it.. the shadow means the fear, in the kid's case it's his fear of the neighbor and the things he did to him, and in the neighbor's case it's the fear of never being a father again. so yeah at the end we conquered our fear while the neighbor is still afraid of it

Long story of neighbor:his was accident on the car crash the neighbor waits if his wife dieds But the wife dies and the son got mad at the daughter the son pushes the daughter in the roof the daughter dies or the neighbor save his daughter the neighbor got sad cause the family got lost....

The son killed the daughter, and I guess he keeps his son captured in the basement. My guess is his son is the shadow. The missing pictures are his kids but they're not missing.
