John Wick Movie Description:
Legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) retired from his violent career after marrying the love of his life. Her sudden death leaves John in deep mourning. When sadistic mobster Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen) and his thugs steal John's prized car and kill the puppy that was a last gift from his wife, John unleashes the remorseless killing machine within and seeks vengeance. Meanwhile, Iosef's father (Michael Nyqvist) -- John's former colleague -- puts a huge bounty on John's head.
John Wick is a 2014 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski, in his directorial debut, and written by Derek Kolstad. It stars Keanu Reeves in the lead role, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe. It is the first installment in the John Wick franchise. The story focuses on John Wick searching for the men who broke into his home, stole his vintage car and killed his puppy, which was a last gift to him from his recently deceased wife.
Chad Stahelski and David Leitch directed the film together, though only Stahelski was credited. Kolstad had completed the screenplay in 2012 and further developed it for Thunder Road Pictures. The film was produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Leitch, Eva Longoria, and Michael Witherill. It marks Stahelski and Leitch's directorial debut as a team after multiple separate credits as second-unit directors and stunt coordinators. They previously worked with Reeves as stunt doubles on The Matrix trilogy.
Stahelski and Leitch's approach to fight scenes drew upon their admiration for anime and martial arts films. The film used fight choreographers and gun fu techniques from Hong Kong action cinema. The film also pays homage to works such as John Woo's The Killer, Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samouraï, John Boorman's Point Blank, and the Spaghetti Western films.
The film was met with positive reviews, with critics labeling it as one of Reeves' best performances and one of the best action films of 2014. It grossed $86 million worldwide against a production budget of $20-30 million. A sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, was released in 2017, and was met with comparable critical and commercial success.

The dog dragged itself to him and then died. The trail of blood shows that real easy to miss but when you notice it makes the whole dog death more meaningful and impact full in my humble opinion. You don't mess with a man's car and dog. Good show bud 👍 👏 👌

Which is why I love that the dog got taken to the red carpet, because they understood how horrific and sad that scene was, so it was a way to tell people, "It's okay, it's fiction, here's our baby!"

It's not that hard to miss. Some people just aren't that imaginative. No one would drag a bleeding/dead dog across the floor to make a blood trail to an unconscious person. I believe they would pick it up by the tail and drop it in front of him. But what would be the point of getting that low to the ground to drag that small dog across the ground just to spread blood around? Only a retard would think that and I have genuinely heard someone say that as a theory.

Definitely not overrated or overhyped, the amount of work that Keanu and the rest of the cast and crew put in for these films is incredible. Many of the gun fights and stunts are actually done by Keanu, who went to Taran Tactical to get trained up, as did Halle Berry once she was cast for John Wick 3. Not to mention the camerawork is clean so you can see the action and know the actors are actually doing it, rather than hiding sloppy choreography with quick cuts.

Kevin Nash said that one of the reason's the Francis character lived, was because he gave John Wick the number of people who were waiting for him. Makes sense on a rewatch. The number SIXTY is in big bold orange lettering. Plus, 60 kilograms is equivalent of roughly 132 lbs. Not saying Francis DIDN'T lose that much weight (we don't have a before picture), but I like the whole, "there's sixty guys waiting for you" code speak explanation.

My information stated the actor stated & it should read 27kilos (27 people inside ) but converting it to 60lbs. for Americans screwed all that up. Who knows? 🤷‍♂️

John Wick was written and directed by a few stunt choreographers who hired their friends to do stunts and fights they always wanted to do or see or what they thought would look cool. For John Wick 2 and 3, they hired stunt directors from other genres, like Hong Kong, and hired their heroes to amp it up even higher. Some of the John Wick guys did Shang Chi for Marvel and Nobody, and several other films in the John Wick style, but they might as well be John Wick movies because they used the same production crew with different scripts and actors. :) Good stuff is good stuff. :)

I see you mentioned how Keanu Reeves did all his own stunts in this film. I have read that he did all but one, the balcony drop at 15.50. He was actually said to have complimented and praised the stuntman who did that fall. For the build up for the second and third films in the series, have you seen the live fire tactical training videos on youtube that Keanu did to improve his role? For the third film Halle Berry can also be seen training. Living over here in the Nanny State UK, where such weapons or ranges are not allowed, I must admit to being impressed at the training. The most I have handled was my mates Glock 17 ((when they were legal), so that's nothing to boast about

John's wife also plays on Blue Bloods, and, since she has no real characterization other than loving her husband, I can pretend it's the same character. Her family on Blue Bloods are the police, and she's a prosecutor. It would be John's reason for getting out of the crime world--to be with a lawful woman. Good movie, good series, fun reaction, as usual. When Harry Met Sally reference to your own reaction was just *chef's kiss*.

6:33 - Agreed re: Viggo's raising of Iosef - the whole plot could've been avoided if Viggo had made sure that Iosef didn't turn out to be such an ignorant entitled douche. 23:52 - Probably that she was getting paid really well to break the rules, and that she'd figure out a way to get away with it. Now that I think about it, it seems like she has the same problem as Iosef in that she thinks she won't have to deal with the consequences of her actions, no matter what she does. 24:04 - Well, John did work for Viggo, so Winston's probably trusting him to know the location without having to spell it out. This way, he can punish Viggo for putting up the "business on Continental grounds" bounty and do it in such a way that it won't be seen as a potential rules violation in itself.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Lone Survivor, but it’s a true story about a Navy SEAL operation that went wrong in 2005, Mark Wahlberg as the main guy, Marcus Lutteell. The real Marcus Luttrell was given a therapy dog, a golden Labrador he named DASY, after the guys in his team who died. A couple of scumbags broke into his house in 2010 and shot his dog. He chased the killers across about 6 counties before he caught up with them. John Wick (at least the part about the murdered dog) was inspired by that story.

Another good revenge action movie is Man On Fire with Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, if you haven't seen it yet you _need_ to watch it, it's phenomenal. Denzel friggin kills it as usual, you'll love it.

Not to mention, the visuals were fucking crazy. That whole de ja vu fading scene every couple of minutes is absolutely something to be amazed for.

The actor that played one of the agents in the Matrix is named Daniel Bernhardt. He's one of those actors that you say hey I've seen him in so and so but you don't know his name. He started out doing low budget action films - Bloodsport 2 and 3, Bloodsport: The Dark Kumite, Future War, True Vengeance, Perfect Target, G2, Black Sea Raid, and Global Effect. he was also in Mortal Combat Conquest - the tv prequel to the original Mortal Combat movie. After that he got the role most people recognize him from in the Matrix Reloaded. I've seen most of the early low budget movies and was glad when he started getting more mainstream roles. He has been training in Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Boxing, Judo and Brazilian Jiujitsu since 1983 and started out as a model in Paris.

The dog and bed scene was hard to film because the dog didnt want to do it, so I think they put bacon grease on his face.

You guys should do Armageddon vs Deep Impact. I feel like those were in theaters at the exact same time with basically the same premise.
