Scent Of A Woman Movie Description:
Frank is a retired Lt. Col. in the US army. He's blind and impossible to get along with. Charlie is at school and is looking forward to going to college. To help pay for a trip home for Christmas, he agrees to look after Frank over Thanksgiving. Frank's niece says this will be easy money, but she didn't reckon on Frank spending his Thanksgiving in New York.
Scent of a Woman is a 1992 American drama film produced and directed by Martin Brest that tells the story of a preparatory school student who takes a job as an assistant to an irritable, blind, medically retired Army lieutenant colonel. The film is a remake of Dino Risi's 1974 Italian film Profumo di donna, adapted by Bo Goldman from the novel Il buio e il miele (Italian: Darkness and Honey) by Giovanni Arpino. The film stars Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell, with James Rebhorn, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Gabrielle Anwar.
Pacino won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance and the film was nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published. The film won three major awards at the Golden Globe Awards: Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Motion Picture - Drama.
The film was shot primarily around New York state, and also on location at Princeton University, at the Emma Willard School, an all-girls school in Troy, New York, and at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York City.

14:40 I love this scene, because the brother is being a total prick to him, but the thing is everything he's saying is true, and Frank knows it. Underneath that confidence you see the first hints that his suicidal thoughts are genuine and he has some self loathing he hasn't come to terms with.

Al Pacino was popularly robbed of an Oscar win for "The Godfather Part II" by Art Carney from "Harry and Tonto" (Jack Nicholson was also nominated for "Chinatown"). Hence, the former's win for "Scent of a Woman" gets a lot of flak for supposedly being the Academy Awards' apology that snubbed Denzel Washington's performance in "Malcolm X". Ironically, the same criticism tends to be pointed at "Training Day" for its supposed theft of the Best Actor award from Russell Crowe's role in "A Beautiful Mind".

That speech at the School should be the first thing that every student in this country should hear before they start school and the last thing they hear before they leave school. A Life Lesson that everyone should follow. Unfortunately, these days young people are being taught the exact opposite by both their teachers and their parents, but mostly the teachers. I am saddened that so many young people today are being lead astray by mostly teachers, but also parents, who were also lead astray when they were younger and were never taught these valuable lessons.

THANK YOU for reacting to this movie. My all-time favorite movie, and sooooo under-rated (the title turns off the pre-judgmental, I believe). Perfect dialogue, acting, development, climax, and resolutionn. Ya, I think it beats Devil's Advocate's Monologue. I definitely think this is his best performance. He's had many great ones, but he nailed this perfectly AND, imo, it was more difficult to pull off genuinely. It's easy to rat hysterically in anger. It's harder to do it with sorrow remorse and turmoil where the emotions are more layered/conlicting simultaneously. thank you again for reacting.

Am I the only one who thinks Al Pacinos character sounds identical to George Carlin's stand up comedy? The voice/Fine, pauses/delivery. Idk, maybe it's cause I smoked a joint, but it's all I can hear now. Lol

-"Outta order? I'll show you outta order! You don't know what outta order is, Mr. Trask! I'd show you but I'm too old; I'm too tired; I'm too fuckin' blind. If I were the man I was five years ago I'd take a FLAME-THROWER to this place!!"... SPEECHLESS...!

I've always loved this film. So glad you got to do a reaction to it. Solid acting job for the top two. Suggestion: "Guarding Tess". I think you'd really, really like it. Another suggestion: If you really like good acting, try "Bedazzled" (2000) starring Brendan Fraser. Ensemble cast, great acting all around, but this was the film that alerted to Fraser's incredible ability, never since given the material that lives up to his capacity. This is an updated remake of a 1967 film starring Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, but the 2000 version is much better.

I’m glad you like this film, Mello. It’s certainly appreciated by people who have seen it, but not enough people have. It’s five stars out of five in my opinion.

Al Pacino is amazing in this movie. He really seems like a blind person. I like how in the end Frank & Charlie became family. Frank started looking at Charlie like a son. I think that’s what Frank needed after going blind. 6:01 how do they not know who was using the PA system?
