I feel like with Hellraiser 3 they wanted to make Pinhead the next Freddy Krueger: scary as hell in the first movie, and a wisecracking killer in the sequels.

From what I heard, all movies after the third one were getting worse and worse, to the point where Doug refused to play his role and was replaced.. new version of him looked so bad, that it made me laugh hysterically.

Didn't care for this movie. We don't need Pinhead to be Freddy, you know? He loses some of the grandeur. Even doing a Dark Helmet "FOOLED YOU!" The fourth sequel is interesting because of how badly it was mangled by studio interference but the rests... I dunno, there's just not much there. They're all DTV affairs, most of them not even originally Hellraiser scripts, just slamming Pinhead into them all willy-nilly.

I like the idea of the Lament Configuration…..the coolest part of this franchise,however,the theology is wacky yes…..I said wacky,a universe of pain and suffering,sort of reminds me of Event Horizon.

Saw this whe I was 18, when it came out to movie theaters in London, UK!! This was more confusing for me. The pillar in the previous intallment was wooden. This one is stone. The box thing is still something I'm trying to figure out.... The original from 1987 is the best in my opinion!! Also, the cenobites were more intimidating in the first and second movies as they weren't familiar. They were more mysterious. We didn't really learn much about them, not even in Hellbound. Great review as always👍

This one's my favorite! It's the Americanized dumbed downed, beefed up, skanky gorefest that could only come out of the early 90s. And I remember all the promo at the time. Good memories. It's more slasher than horror but I think it works to its advantage. Thoughtful review.

Yeah you can tell Pinhead definitely delivered a dark sense of humor kind of Freddy Kruger in a sense in number 3 unlike all the other movies where he was nothing like that personality wise

It just was not a Hellraiser movie to me, it was a fun and gory action/horror movie but that is about it.

I am loving all the new content.

You can skip the other sequels without sweating it. They are all fairly generic and very dull. Many were not written as Hellraiser but had it shoe horned in, in a pretty pathetic cash grab kind of way. They aren't awful but they are so by the numbers. There are so many other films that are worth gambling on.

The Megatron joke got me good. Cheers. The best thing about Hellraiser 3 is Motörhead's version of the song Hellraiser, co-written by Ozzy, Zakk Wylde, and Lemmy. The film lost a lot of the edge and tone introduced in the first move, and the second film honored. Clive Barker isn't a great filmmaker, but he does know how to tell a story with visuals. You could tell Barker wasn't really involved in this one, despite being Executive producer. I was excited about the release of Hellraiser 3, and a part of me died after watching it. I stopped following the series after watching this silly departure. I may have watched one or two of the others at some point, but if I did, they weren't worth remembering. Peace.

The men in uniform sequence I’ll get him and the movie IT 🎈confused because I thought I saw a man in uniform holding a red balloon either in this movie or in IT. This movie review cleared a lot of things up for me. Thank you so VERY much.

The worst of the ones I've seen. People complain about the direct to video films but they have the tone better judged. Not seen the ones without Doug though. I believe one of those is a bigger stinker.

"Hellraiser" = Masterpiece. "Hellbound: Hellraiser II" = Still very good, gets a bit out there. "Hellraiser III" = More out there than good, but still at least fun... After that its all a sh*t show lol I don't remember how many of the sequels were not even written as Hellraiser flicks, but its a lot of them. Still better than the "Saw" franchise 😁😁

The Hellraiser franchise has so much potential that, imo, it hasn't really tapped yet There's the addiction parallels in the first movie, and the idea that only those who desire to meet the cenobites will be taken ( "It's not hands that summon us, it is desiiire") from the second one. The 2022 movie has tge aesthetic down, but the part about collecting sacrifices to make a wish kinda over complicates things. A version where a person is willing to be transfigured by extreme pain to become/achieve something they desire could be horrific. Like, imagine if your best friend opened the puzzle box and you were trying to stop them so you wouldn't lose them.
