One thing I like about the first Hellraiser movie is that it’s small scaled, but hints at something bigger.

I heard it summed up once as a British family drama, but with the addition of supernatural elements. And thats a great way to boil it down.

FASCINATING FACT - Hellraiser was filmed at a house in Dollis Hill, North London. Just around the corner from the house I grew up in. We had no idea what was going on at the time. But when my Dad rented the movie from the corner shop years later, we were shocked 😄

I work in Quality Control for Pepsi, and the batching room gets hellishly hot when doing hot washes of syrup tanks, upwards of 200 degree water charging through 2 tanks at a time and with the room being rather small, it’s pretty unbearable in the summer. There’s a window that separates the lab and the batch room that steams up badly when doing this, so for fun, we write or draw on the steam covered window. I once wrote “Help me I’m in Hell” from part 2. Needless to say management made me break out the windex to clean it off. They weren’t impressed and clearly not horror fans 🤷🏼🔥

Agree. This is one movie where the sequal was just as good as the first. I wish new world allowed them to have the intended budget for hellbound. It was supposed to be much bigger than it was but they cut the budget half way through.

It's actually a great book, especially when you read so many more details about Frank and Julia. How Frank is pretty much a Nihist, living for experiences and pleasure, and couldn't stand the boredom of regular life. Julia was drowning in her unhappy marriage, you watch the movie again, and you can tell how much she hated having dinner parties for example.

The 2022 version has the closest version of "Pinhead" based on the book, but people still lost their shit. Fun fact, the guy with dark hair moving the mattress who flirted with Kirsty is the same actor who played Peloquin in Nightbreed.

The Hellbound Heart sequel, The Scarlet Gospels, also reveals that it takes place in the same universe as another Clive Barker story, The Last Illusions, as it includes the character Detective Harry D’Mour, who was played by Scott Bakula in the Last Illusions movie, which Barker wrote and directed.

Yes, in addition Harry DMour comes off kind of as John Constantine in a nutshell. Like a supernatural detective.

I've read the book and seen the movie, this is one of the rare times where the movie seems to do more than the book, the book is excellent but feels like there should be more, the movie gives you the same story just with more explored. With Clive Barker directing the movie it feels like he wanted to make it what he had wanted from the book all along and he sure did an amazing job.

The original premise for "Hell On Earth", the main villain was to be Julia with Pinhead/Hell Priest doing his background work 7 popping up to finish things up. Claire Higgins refused to reprise her role & we then got the re-written version that was released. Pinhead/Hell Preist & the Cenobites were never meant to be antagonists/villains for the films, just the ones who stepped in to finish/clean things up for what the main villain started, including said villain. Would've love to have seen the series play out on its original premise. I feel making Pinhead/Hell Preist into a main villain was the first nail in the coming coffin to the series.

Mr. Barker hated that "Pinhead," (a name he did not come up with and despised vehemently) became the center of his fans' appreciation, so Mr. Barker killed who movie fans refer to as "Pinhead" (a name coined by the make up effects crew on the set of "Hellraiser") off in the novel following "The Hell Bound Heart." To be sure, Clive hated what Pinhead had become to fans of his work, and wanted that character gone so the fans' focus would center on what he intended to begin with. TL;DR: film studios were not about to let Clive destroy THE cash cow of the Hellraiser franchise and so they don't care to entertain notions of a storyline without it. Money talks. Clive Barker walks. Hollywood squawks.

I love HR films 1-4; all the rest after that were kinda meh. I think the new 2022 version could have been good if they introduced a small segment background story of the new female pinhead and well just had much better writing because lets be honest it was really bad. The make up, cast, and sets were very good.

The Hellbound Heart > Hellraiser Barker pandered heavily to the horror film industry of the late 80's and left it a slightly mediocre, low-budget "experience" that the source material exceeds greatly. Wouldn't it have been so satisfying if they had done an extremely accurate, 80's period piece adaptation of "The Hellbound Heart" 15 to 20 years ago, when practical and CGI effects were in harmony? Instead, we got the modern mess of a series that calls itself "Hellraiser"...

My issue with the new movie was the main characters lol. I just didnt like them at all. The main chick was annoying to me lol. Otherwise, i actually really enjoyed it. And see the bad guys metal bits woven throughout his body was pretty cool. The actress who played pinhead did a good job too. Obviously not better than doug bradley, but def better than tge other guys.

Id also think it would be cool if we got a movie about the beginning of the Cenobites and a Pinhead origin movie. I know we got the memory part in one of the movies, but i want more lmao
@Concreteowl
@Concreteowl 10 ай бұрын
I prefer the novella. It's more complete, it doesn't have awful Hell puns crowbarred into the dialogue. The cenobites are more interesting. Kirsty works better as friend zoned friend than daughter as the story is about desire. It handles the intriguing concepts better. The film has great art design and Claire Higgins is exquisite but the weird jokes, the unnecessary "homeless person is a demon thing, and the film not being able decide if it's set in Liverpool or somewhere in the States is really off putting. It's still a good film but it's kind of maimed.
