He HAS to ask for permission. They expected vampires, not ignorant humans. And he knows this. To up and kill innocent humans is very serious, something a monster would do. Integra controls him, and therefore she will give him the go-ahead. Any time it involves humans, he will ask her what to do. Ignoring Seras.

@B R actually, according to the writer of the comics, he chooses to serve Hellsing. Remember the words he invokes to release all his restrictions instantly: “The Bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to keep me tame”. He is placing limits on his own power by himself.

This. This is why Alucard is more interesting than most other overpowered protagonists. He's not meant to be likable or relatable, like so many others are intended to be (only to fail). He's a monster, ready to snap at a moment's notice and kill everything, and the only thing that holds him back is his contract with the Hellsing family. He's scary, he'd be the villain if not for his bond to Integra. And Freeman's performance sells every bit of this horrifying intensity.

However, I remember the mangaka once saying, that the relationship between Alucard and Integra is like a "twisted romance" (or "twisted love story", it was many years ago, so I'm not sure about the exact wording anymore). So, the double meaning of this statement was definitely intentional.

Also, everyone whose insulting everyone else to say that the original or the abridged version if this scene is better. They're BOTH great, for different reasons. This version is cool and kinda hot and shows Alucard trying (and succeeding) to make Integra go off the deep end for a bit. While the abridged is both funny AND badass, showing one of the coolest scenes in the series with the old soundtrack. So SHUSH.

I love both scenes for different reasons. The _one_ thing I like better about the abridged over the original is that scene when he first strolls out of the elevator. The addition of “Left Foot Trapped In A Sensual Seduction” as he strolls out the elevator, guns drawn always sends chills down my spine.

And yet in both it makes sense knowing both versions of Alucard. Abridged Alucard never follows Integra’s orders with the one exception being her telling him to go for a walk. He’s an extremely dangerous loose cannon that will create an ungodly amount of collateral damage. Ultimate Alucard is a violent and dangerous monster, but one who’s still closely bound by his contract with the Hellsings. They give him the permission to destroy, and he will destroy, and only when he is given the order

Integra didn't really want to give him the order to kill tons of humans, but at this point it's like the relationship between a badly raised Rottweiler and his owner. Everything goes fine for the owner as long as he stands his ground, but if he shows signs of weakness or fear one day, the dog will take him down.

He's a monster. A weapon to be used by the Hellsing organization. His only use in his unlife is as a near immortal killing machine. In such a profession its good to be a little psychopathic. Besides the best Hellsing members are a bit psycho. Look at Walter, he uses a weapon that can slowly torture an enemy before killing them in an eyeblink. And Sera's ain't exactly a saint either. She was being overwhelmed with ghouls and her reaction was to forget her gun and rip them apart with her bare hands in a blood fueled frenzy.

It is the complete opposite. Integra is (As the Mayor very well says) the only person who can control Alucard in any regard. She reins him in.

@@facundogonza5740 The fact she can rein him in means that every time she actively doesn't she bears part of the responsibility,. It's Alucard's whole point when he waits for her order to engage Walter after his treason. He's the weapon, she's the one firing it.

Found it! Been looking for this (but not for seven years). One of my favourite scenes, highlighting just what a sadistic b*****d Alucard is, teasing and testing Hellsing with the prospect of a slaughter. You've just gotta love him. And Hellsing too - she understands the monster in her service and knows she has to be just as monstrous in his eyes and the eyes of her enemies'.
