What’s more important than a having a helmet when on track? Having one that fits properly. Despite its necessity, however, there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Information is great here…nothing beats buying locally from a race shop with helmets to try on!!!

Agreed. Or from a trackside vendor. And a reminder to anyone shopping the trackside vendors: Don't be "that guy" and try on someone's helmet, then go order it online so you can save $10. Support the folks who support our sport.

GREAT VIDEO!! Safety Gear Budget Guideline - Add up how much you have spent, or plan to spend on car upgrades like coilovers, wheels, R-spec tires, aero, tune, etc etc. Now, spend that amount on your helmet, HANS, fire protection (clothing and suppression), shoes, gloves, seat (ideally containment) and harness. Be sure those are properly fitted and installed by a pro. If there is any left over, use that for coaching/instruction. THEN buy the gear for the car.

I technically fit in a XL Arai helmet, but I think I might need to go Bell because they have slightly larger ones :/

If you are racing endurance events like Lucky Dog, Lemons, Champ Car, etc.... spend a little extra on a lighter weight model of the helmet that fits.

if the helmet is on and strap tight should you be able to pull the front of helmet by chin bar to the point that the chin bar moves up and blocks your vision?

How do you deal with fogged up glasses?

Commercial anti-fog cleaners work pretty well. But the big thing is temperature equalization. Make sure you aren't sitting in an air-conditioned car before you get your helmet on with your glasses. Put your helmet on early and get your glasses on ASAP to make sure everything equalizes in temperature and fogging will be minimal.

FIA in the US usually equates to more expensive

That's true, but it also means higher safety standards. That's why the rest of the world abides by FIA standards.

FIA certification is more stringent than SNELL and, depending on FIA changes, may stay legal longer than SNELL. Maybe.

Anybody use a racequip helmet? Measured and went off their chart and it said I needed a large. Here I am after going down sizes one by one with a small still being too big

Yes I've used a racequip helmet they tens to run big I'm a large on other helmet sites and still had to go with a medium now I'm with zamp and there helmet is true to fit hope that helps

I bought a racequip and returned it right away It seemed they use 1 shell for all their sizes. I bought a small and it was way too lose and the actual shell looked ridiculous like an xl on my head. The other issue is it felt like wearing a bag of bricks on my head i think it was around 5 lbs. if u can get something in 3 lbs range max i think it is best , 5lbs is way too heavy on the neck. They prob sell a ton seeing how they sponsor the big youtube channels and u see racequip all over youtube but I would never wear one.
