I had the same issue, went to the dealer. Known issue. A batch of the electric motor is known to have loose magnets. If one gets out, the whole motor is blocked. It was under warrantee by Stihl and the dealer replaced it for free.

We have had a few Stihl FSA's where the magnets come loose in the motor, this from being banged on the floor to bump feed the wire. Take it to a Stihl dealer 'like us' and we can very quickly plug it into the Stihl diagnostics and see what the issue is.

Must be something in the air with strimmers atm. Took my old fs90 in for a service last week, engine mounts where cracked so effectively written off. Dealer kindly built a Frankenstein out of another machine, supplying engine for free. Bugger me that engine blew up after two hours on Tuesday😂 I’ve now fitted one of my kombi 131 engines so we’ll see how long that lasts 😂

might be the bearing is jammed. had the same sound happen on my bga 86. i ended up having to get the whole motor replaced but maybe different for the strimmer.

There only two parts the motor and control module and both are 100 quid. Is there voltage going to the head motor. We wee cheap volt meter is a key bit of test equipment now

I have to test equipment. I can see me going to the dealer 😊 I guess I'll have to learn more about battery equipment

I’d go with what others have said so far, maybe the bearing? Is there any chance a fair bait of dust has got in the casing? Might be worth trying a bit of vibration to try and free it up! My impact wrench used to do it when I was fitting lifts years ago. The first time it did it I got a bit emotional, held it against a wall and tried to destroy it with a lump hammer. It worked fine after that😂 Just the odd whack over the next few years😂

@@dagtailgroundmaintenance I've no real experience other than having a go but I can usually spin the motor on the ones I have looked at, could it be a simple as something jamming it? Sounds like it got power going to it.....try a 🔨😅

I agree with Lewis on this one. My Stihl battery hedge trimmer gave off the same noise/symptoms the other day. I manually moved the blades and it seemed to resolve the issue🫣 Best of luck Gents. Jon @Basjoo

Cost me 200 for a new motor and fitting. Dealer thinks it was because of banging on the ground to get the line out
