Man....the whole disclaimer thing drives me nuts. People like you are better than most "real" doctors i've dealt with in my life. Not only do most doctors not know what the problem is, they simply want to prescribe you drugs and get you out of the office for the next patient....they can't even pretend to care about the patients. We're just dollar signs for them. G-d bless you man, thank you for what you do.

I went to the hospital a few days ago because I went into a full on panic mode from a weird pain in my chest. Never had anxiety before. Did 4 EKGs, 2 blood tests, multiple chest X-Rays and they said I am perfectly normal. Now I am back to normal for the most part but it was definitely a weird phase that I never thought I'd experience. You all can beat it! Just convince yourself you are normal and stop freaking out. Live your life the best you can and keep fighting.

Modern ECG's used by malpractitioner doctors are a scam. They never tell you what your problems are and neither will this clown in the video. "Uh it's just anxiety". Anxiety is caused by high DHEA and high cortisol, high t4 and low TSH. My air hunger and high resting heart rate was caused by overactive thyroid and adrenals.

I was dealing with this for a few weeks. I went to the ER. Nothing was wrong with me. They said it was anxiety but I did not believe them. It turns out, my pec muscles were very tight on the inside area which is pretty impossible to stretch and my diaphragm was tight and I was breathing up into my chest instead of down into my diaphragm. So I massaged out the pecs and stretched out the diaphragm and had somebody use a massage gun on my back and wala, I'm cured. I'll also add that I have done yoga for years so i am quite flexible and spent lots of times stretching my chest, ribs and back...but I guess I never breathed properly into my diaphragm and didn't realize I had tightness that only a massage could fix. Never believe that it is just anxiety. I almost believe it myself. Its not. The breathing problem came first, and then you became anxious about it because anyone who can't breathe well would be anxious about it.

Anxiety. It’s all in your head. The usual doctor’s excuse for physical- feeling ailments. HOWEVER, my friend, you have made me see the light. Just sitting here listening to one or two of your videos and practicing your exercise, I am breathing easier. In the beginning, it’s harder than one would think. Because over the last many months, I’ve gotten used to gasping air through my mouth. At the same time, It didn’t make any sense to me that while I was sleeping I wasn’t suffering from this, but the minute I wake up in the morning, suddenly, I can’t breathe? You’re a genius my friend. There are so many people that make fun of KZfaqrs, who are not physicians, touting their remedies. But so many times. One does not have to be a physician to use a little common sense, observe, disseminate one’s own experience and use a little common sense. Many Doctors don’t believe in anecdotal evidence, and yet it’s anecdotal evidence that most people will find most helpful. This is not to say that one should not at least get a chest x-ray, and make sure one is not suffering from pneumonia are a hole in the heart or something like that, but most of the time, especially in these crazy days in which we live, anxiety is a real problem And BTW. no one likes to admit that they are anxious. That’s a big one to admit especially to oneself. ❤

@@MdMunna-oi4op thankfully it’s been better, someone told me that your lungs are like a balloon 🎈 and filling that balloon way too much it’s like your body doesn’t need that so it goes into a cycle 🔁 of going for more air you don’t need to function, so I guess I rationalized that my body is okay with shorter breaths so occasionally I won’t take deep breaths and have days without it if I’m lucky. But I’m struggling with breathing OCD, manual breathing and can’t stop thinking about my breathing feeling like I’ll stop breathing or forget how to breathe because I noticed it too much and hard to stop noticing it or controlling it

Thank you so much! As a 13 year old that was recently diagnosed with an upper respitory infection , my shortness of breathing has slowly taken over. The doctor told me I was healthy, but I've become so stressed and anxious about my breathing I couldn't resist the urge to breathe through my mouth just to feel a satisfying breath. Most of the time it's not satisfying but I always get in a few. However, I was told by this video and the nurse that I should just try and breathe in normally and I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it again. Though my breathing still gets uncomfortable, it’s certainly better than when I first starting experiencing it.

I here you! But there really are solutions out there. Gentle restrictive breathing exercises to help your body go back to a normal level of CO2 tolerance combined with work to reduce the threat response to anxiety (so you stop over-breathing) and you gradually go back to normal. It can take some time... but better to move in the right direction than the wrong one.

It affects your self-esteem, and this anxiety probably does make it worse. But I also have it bad when I lie down to sleep; this tells me that it isn't all in my head. It could be intermittent asthma because it is not every day I suffer from it. Ive been months without it bothering me. Ive had all the checks at the doctors, and no problems were found. I've recently been eating better in the last few months; I've never been healthier infact than I am now, and yet my breathing has gotten worse. So, It could be connected in some way to food or my new eating habits. It could be something as simple as not eating enough in the day, low blood sugar, low electrolytes, the list goes on.. and it's frustrating not knowing what it is :(

Thats crazy, I have been struggling with a big shortness of breath these past 3 months. This all started once I went 26 hours without eating. I fasted for one day and on the 26th hour I started to realize I couldn't breathe at all and my hands started to shake. So, I broke my fast on the 26 hour and felt slightly better. But ever since then I have been having the same sensation running through my body. I still can't breathe at all, and I am suffering. My doctors said they don't think this has to do with fasting but who knows. I just want to breathe again. :(

I have noticed that the feeling of hunger worsens my ailments considerably. I feel intense anxiety when breathing comes to mind. sometimes it goes out of my mind and comes back after a while. just like a vicious circle. and this terrible affliction limits my whole life. I have also been to the doctor and they only gave me breathing exercises. which do not help me at all. life is a pain when you have to avoid things however, I still live in hope that maybe this will get easier someday and I do have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and have had panic attacks as a teenager i thanks for this video! hi, I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced something similar :( I'm not completely cured yet, but at least I'm feeling a little better. the best advice I can give is that. eat regularly. and don't let your blood sugar drop too much. because it increases anxiety, at least for you, and increases the risk get a panic attack if you're hungry because then a person can't think rationally about things. don't stress about breathing. it feels really shocking when you start thinking about it too much. and it feels like you have to do it yourself so it's not automatic. but it's automatic. I've started to use breathing exercises and they really help a lot. one exercise goes like this. breathe in calmly and count at the same rate 4 blow through the mouth with the fourth out and count 6 when you blow air out through the mouth. repeat it maybe 3 times. it's really effective and a good way relieves anxiety, the thought of breathing is partly due to focusing too much on it and may be breathing shakily, and it causes too much carbon dioxide. and it causes you to start observing your breathing. but remember you won't die from it even if it feels like it. if I have survived for 2 years with trouble, you can too. all the best to you and strength. we are not alone! try that breathing exercise when you feel really bad. and let me know if it helped you.

yes we will get better from this this trouble will not be with us forever. it is partially. probably anxiety and subconscious stress. and for some reason our brain breaks it down when we breathe. and it is very common. we will beat this shit together. and we show that we are stronger than that disgusting trouble. I know this is all in my head, I’ve had symptoms from chest pain that went away after reassurance, I woke up with morning nausea and heart palpitations, I went to the doctor he said heartbeat sounded fine, lungs sounded healthy, heart rate was healthy. So really there is only 1 reason all this is happening. All I had now is this air hunger, which I really only feel when I’m consciously thinking about my breathing, if I’m distracted my breathing is something I forget about, and I also feel air hunger when I first wake up in the morning and feel the urge to take deeper breaths.

Well it's not really all in your head in the sense that IF you have been overbreathing for a little while due to anxiety then your body can become hypersensitive to CO2 which the exercises outlined on my other video on air hunger will help deal with. Good luck.

I'm dealing with air hunger really bad right now. Over time my body has over compensated by using my neck muscles to try and "breathe in" even more, which in turn makes my head feel chronically tight from the tight neck. I feel so defeated and depleted.

Yes I understand how this feels... and sometimes when you start straining to breathe more and creating tension it causes more stress related symptoms like tightness in head and neck etc. Starting to challenge the anxiety around it AND doing gentle restrictive breathing exercises (in the first video I did on air hunger) can begin to deal with this. Good luck!

The bicarbonate buffer system (which is what this video covers) explains why low CO2 levels can be maintained in those with chronic hyperventilation, but it doesn't explain why people with low CO2 have more sensitivity to the same amount of buildup/increase in CO2 (relative to their baseline). In other words, this video doesn't explain why people with air hunger have lower Control Pauses. I am guessing the sensitivity to CO2 buildup has to do with with details of how chemoreceptors work and how their sensitivity changes, but I haven't been able to find anything about this. Do you happen to know a good reference for this?

Do you best to avoid taking them if possible BUT also don't worry freak our if you do take the one as well (the anxiety then causes over breathing). Once I get up and mentally slow my breathing it goes away. How do I stop this from happening? I have been doing the excersize from your first video about 3 weeks now, no real sings of improvment yet. How long will it usually takes? And how can I get rid of thinking about breathing and giving my body the red flag labels? Just saying "this is not a threath"?
@anxietybeatinghacks
@anxietybeatinghacks Жыл бұрын
Firstly, well done for starting to do the exercises and getting stuck in. What was your control pause? How long are you doing the breath holds for? Do you find at the end of the exercise you have mild but tolerable air hunger or are you gasping for air? All of these things will help ascertain if you are doing the exercises in the best way. Re: how to stop the body and mind treating these sensations as a threat. This is not the easiest question to answer in a youtube comment reply but it often an experiential learning that emerges from my clinical work. Essentially its challenging the mental images and internal dialogue and sensations to examine if these things "in and of themselves" pose a threat... it's more about insight about the nature of thinking rather than trying to get rid of this thinking. I go into all this fully on my live free from air hunger programme.
@anxietybeatinghacks
@anxietybeatinghacks Жыл бұрын
Sometimes one of the reasons why we may not see improvements with JUST the breathing exercises by themselves is if you have so much anxiety around it you are cancelling out any exercise progress from overbreathing.

@@anxietybeatinghacks My control pause was 10 when I started and the breath hold then 5. Then I didnt' feel air hunger almost at all so I quite quickly rose the time to 7 and then 8. In that breath hold time it varies very much from easy to gasping air. So have kept the number the same. I did the control pause test just and now it was 15, so I quesa there has been some improvment tough it does not feel so in the daily life. @anxietybeatinghacks
@anxietybeatinghacks Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, great question. My journey figuring this stuff out is as follows. When I struggled terribly with it everyone kept telling me to "take deep breaths" etc. However, when I was getting worse than ever I decided (almost as an attempt to "logic" my way out of the issue to do the following: "could I take gentle normal breaths for as long as I could manage 10-15 minutes etc and then if I hadn't collapsed or died (even if I felt like I wasn't getting enough air) surely that would convince me with logic that I was in fact getting enough). After this period of gentle (what felt like restrictive) breathing I noticed 2 things: 1) I was still alive... so surely I was getting enough oxygen to live and 2) The intensity of the air hunger was slightly reduced... I felt slightly better. So I practiced more restrictive breathing and began to notice some improvements. It was this that lead me to research more about the mechanisms of breathing... and to read about the BUTEYKO breathing method and the science behind it. However, restrictive breathing exercises by themselves can help... BUT if you are highly anxious about the unpleasant breathing sensations (which can be understandable) to such degree that the sensations of air hunger are causing you anxiety or panic then chances are you the panic is causing overbreathing which can counteract the positive benefits of the restrictive breathing exercises. So I now combine both a psychological approach (to reduce the threat response to those unpleasant feelings and thoughts around air hunger) with the correct breathing retraining exercises. Hope this helps to clarify.

intresting, after all 6 books about breathing, 3 seminars, hunderests articles and maybe thousands of videos now i learned that body tries to balance acidicy when its too alkaline, so its goes death circiut. body cannot help itself when its acidic, force us to breath (positively- take air, or negatively- give co2 full air) body balance itself when its alkaline (basic), and say breath its too acidic right after in seconds damn

YEP... most people don't realise that this breathing issue is actually more to do with your body balancing pH levels than lung issues. You could think of it as Anxiety induced Respiratory Alkalosis.

@@anxietybeatinghacks yep yep as we are not actually eat 3 times in a day to survive (since we can live up to 30 days without eating, and we need only couple hundred calories) we dont breath to survive. we breath basicly refreshing ph levels and also to feel beter + system automatized breating,

😅 Yeap this is me...I went through some test specialty off course lung test and few different doctors, and different diagnosis made all so hard to swallow... Five years so far nothing makes sense anymore...one said it's asthms even when all results came good but allergies was on hight so he thought the reason why I'm feeling the way I feel is that. And another one said the problem is Gut...😅 But my fear was as focuse on lung problems... The question real is how we can get clerenes in this dilemma who to trust...? Because sensation in body made all worse...

This is really awful . Previously, I used to exercise without any issue. I could run on the treadmill for 2 hours no problem. Then, one day about 3 years ago, I was moving and was bringing a t.v. up to the 3rd floor of a house. Once I got to the 3rd floor, I was overwhelmed by the stress climbing up 3 flights of stairs with a t.v. put on my body, and I began to hyperfocus on my breathing, which led to a severe panic attack where I thought I was going to have a heart attack. 3 years later, i still struggle with this. Basically ANY from of intense exercise causes me to start hyperfocusing on my breathing. I will try to breathe into my lungs and even when they reach their full capacity and I can't fill them any more, it somehow still doesn't feel like I'm breathing in enough air. It's completely maddening as I go from trying to push my lungs to breath in more than they can, to exhaling and then being too afraid to breathe back in. Since the very first time i experience this panic attack I haven't been able to shake it off since. I hope that by watching this video that I can finally get the answers I need and how to overcome this. I do believe this is all tied into a bigger issue of trauma (I developed this during a time in my life when a lot of traumatic experiences were happening).

I have this for 20 years now nonstop but that dosnt mean it will be the same for you, just try to stay positive and it will get better over time or you learn to live with it like i did and i still workout etc.. I maybe have some lifestyle tips for you that make it easier to live with it. 1. quit caffeine, all types of coffee energy drinks etc. 2. reduce sugar intake to an absolute minimum. 3. avoid eating to much dairy products. 4. drink aloot of water and calming tea without caffeine atleast 3l a day. this 4 steps didnt cure it for me but its alooot easier to live with it, and never forget its not dangerous for your body! i can hold my breath for like 2 minutes, before i had this breathing problem i could hold it for like 45seconds max 😆 dont ask me why but its true... and i also developed this because of a very traumatic childhood and it turned into a general anxiety disorder. stay strong man ❤️

Do you think air hunger and sensorimotor OCD are the same thing?
@anxietybeatinghacks
@anxietybeatinghacks Ай бұрын
I think sensorimotor OCD (or the hyper fixation and checking your internal breathing mechanisms) is not necessarily the same as air hunger (the symptom of feeling that you can't breathe). Air hunger can be caused by being hypersensitive to CO2... however, there is something interesting you are pointing at... because if you feel that you are suffocating (air hunger) you get anxious and likely over breathe which keeps you hypersensitive to CO2. The other thing that happens if you have felt air hunger a lot is you fear it... and the brain is very good and flagging up and paying attention to things that it thinks are a threat. IF someone has got into a habit of breathing where they feel that breathing is problematic this can result in them obsessively internally checking their breathing. There are also some people who despite sorting out the CO2 tolerance still experience air hunger and in these cases it's likely a perceptual issue caused by OCD hyper fixation of checking the breathing sensations.

I had this too. I just figured out yesterday that my diagphragm and pec muscles were very tight. I focused on really breathing down into my diaphragm to stretch it out and did a diagprhagm release massage I found on youtube. I massaged my pecs with a tennis ball against that wall. This helped somewhat. Then today I had someone use a massage gun on my back and that really helped loosen me up a lot. I think a lot of people just need to to get a professional massage to loosen up the area so they have more room to breathe...as well as learn to properly breath down into the diagphragm instead of just up into the chest.

@anxietybeatinghacks
@anxietybeatinghacks Жыл бұрын
Great question! I have come across a theory that Asthma could be a way that your body is trying to stop you from breathing out too much CO2. In otherwords... if you are overbreathing and your body wants you to stop losing too much CO2 then narrowing your airways would achieve that.
