TNPrs do a pretty good job carrying blades; I meet few that don't. But their edges are bleak and a source of fun for the gear checks. Maybe I can help. Shown many times in the KRVs, it's time for me to stress the importance of you carrying a lightweight, SAWC-compliant UTILITY KNIFE! That's right, the unglamorous, affordable utility knife. But if you apply my advice here and always have on your person one of these blades (all with quick change ultra sharp carbide or bi-metal blades), you're cutting tasks will excel. Moreover you can preserve your other tactical/EDC blades for more specific tasks, saving you lots of sharpening time! The Sheffield 1282 wins huge in this comparison and you should have at least 10 (amzn.to/2MKvtmj). Maybe the most important KRV ever from TNP!

nutn the first time you teased a pic of that shefield on twitter i spent hours on amazon finding it and have had mine in use for about a year or longer. I used to work at a store stocking shelves and this saved me so much time as before i was A. Getting yelled at for having a manix 2 lw and a flash 1 to open boxes and it was "not needed " "safety concern " and now i dont have to sharpen 24/7. pics on patreon

Hello there sir! Congrats on your military retirement. My husband has been watching your channel for several years. You are a staple in our household. I always hear your videos about knives, guns and flashlights on his laptop. He always watches your vids prior to making his purchase on Amazon. However, TODAY your video caught my attention when I heard you say that you are a retired Lt Col! That is so awesome. We are both active duty serving in the USAF. Hooah! Well sir, you just earned COOL points in my book and we will continue to watch your videos and support what you do. V/r, Shayna Krause

I've been carrying a utility knife for years. It saved me again yesterday when l loaned it to someone at work and it came back with a shattered blade. I'm glad that kind of abuse wasn't inflicted on one of my good knives. (It's also nice to separate clean vs dirty cutting jobs.)

I actually started with the Sheffield plastic utility knife that I used at work for a while. I was then given a Dewalt utility knife that is a hybrid between a folding and thumb slide utility knife. I admit that the Dewalt is more complicated than it should be when you have to first unfold the knife then slide the blade out. I have since switched to the Milwaukee Fastback utility knife. Deployment of the Fastback is amazingly smooth and quick. It isn't an assisted open, but push the button and the handle and give it a flick. The Fastback also has the pushbutton quick blade release for changing the blade when needed. Model numbers for the Milwaukee Fastback is 48-22-1906 for the compact, and 48-22-1903 for the version with blade storage. And I was just looking at the Home Depot website for the Model numbers and see that they currently have a deal with both of the knives just mentioned plus a back of 50 general purpose blades for $14.88

I don’t use a knife too often as a student but I do carry a knife every day, this in mind, I do not do repetitive cutting, in which a utility knife would be wise, but otherwise do normal everyday tasks, I don’t pamper my knives nor abuse them but rather use them whenever necessary, and when they get dull, I sharpen them and enjoy doing it.

Hey Nutn, great informative video. I agree that my favorite carry boxcutter is the plastic (and durable) Sheffield. I open a lot of packages plus use it in place of an Exacto for finer work. I found mine at Ace Hardware for about $8 big ones, out the door. Another favorite is the Outdoor Edge Slidewinder. It's a tiny (one inch) cutter that's barely bigger that it's standard blade. It's not a folder, but it slides out and locks, and retracts with a push of a spring loaded button. I find it too small for doing fine work, but excellent for opening packages and such. It's advertised as a multi tool; with regular and Phillips screwdrivers and a handy bottle opener. It's metal and plastic with a removable steel clip. It also has good gimping on top and a finger notch on the bottom. It was hard to find a year ago, but it's now in stock on Amazon Prime for $9.95. It comes in black, blue, and orange. Outdoor Edge Slidewinder Utility Knife, Box Cutter, Screwdriver, Bottle Opener, Multi Tool (Orange) www.amazon.com/dp/B078ZLDG89/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_i2ueCb16D3V49 Both of these cutters fit nicely in my jeans' watch pocket. I've added a 550 lanyard for the times when I'm wearing britches without a watch pocket, and have to carry them in my front left pocket, along with my gun of the day in its Blackhawk pocket holster. Speaking of my carry guns.... I've mostly put away my "for work" Glock 40's in favor of something smaller. That would be a Taurus PT111g2 with 1-12 round magazine and 1-18 round mag as a spare. More recently I sometimes carry the slightly smaller SigP365, with 2-12 round mags. I'm pocket carrying the Sig until Blackhawk releases a Serpa for it. I also carry both occasionally in a reinforced Uncle Mikes ankle holster.

Have been carrying the Milwaukee fastback 3 everyday for a few months now. Super easy to clip on my belt, holds extra blades, and I don't even know its there. I don't even notice it hanging on my belt throughout the day Very surprised to not see you mention it.

Just purchased a pair of the little black Sheffields so I can retire the clunker folders to the utility knife drawer in the shop. It will be nice to reduce the weight as those are quite heavy. Sweet! And cheap too at $6.06 each w/free shipping. I have to buy a pair because I have sons like yours (daughters too) and If I didn't buy a second mine would somehow find its way into their collections and I'd be left without. Funny how that works, your knives, rifles, and tools just "migrate". As you well know, its just part of being a good Dad. Let us both count our many blessings and be thankful! Thanks for the KRV.

I wish coldsteel would make a folding box cutter. G10 handle and a triad lock. Base it off a CS Ak47. I'd buy a bunch. Kobalt makes some of my favorite, but the problem with them is while cutting caulking or carpet you tend to hit those releases and it lets the blade out. Craftsman wood handeled ones are nice, but as they age they let blades loose. Husky ones are plainly dangerous to use. Honestly those blades bind in a dangerous way when you're trying to do some serious cutting. Milwuakee base model's are nice, they have some ones with frills but I don't like the thickness of the ones with "features".

I carry a utility knife and a leatherman wingman for work. It makes a great combo.

Nutn, instead of the washers, try doubling up on the zip tie. It works. Thanks for the knife vids!!

Nice reminder, Nutn. I like the deep pocket clip on the Gerber Superknife Edge on the Amazon page. Since I don't need a lot of purchase for most of what I use a utility blade for, I'm more a fan of the very light non-folding blade holders like the screwpop, Ti-pocket tool, etc..

I can’t believe you missed this one: Check out the Milwaukee Fastback. Clean lines and plunger-style button lock flips open and closed like an Axis lock. It’s built pretty tough with steel liners and a steel stop pin. Mini torx pivot adjustment. Good fold over pocket clip that rides nice and low. I have no real complaint, except the obligatory thickness of a folding utility knife.

I've owned a couple of the Kobalt utility knives because I like the idea of the extra blade compartment. However, those just do not hold up. That compartment cover always breaks so I went back to carrying a basic, cheap all metal utility knife from Rural King.

Have a look at the lenox gold folding utility knife. I've been carrying them for years.

Can’t believe you missed the Milwaukee Fastback utility knife. It easily deploys one handed with a flick of the wrist (no spring) and and it locks open and closed. The pocket knife model (also called “Fastback” is my EDC blade. They’re both sold at the Home Depot.

I have used husky kobalt and all the others pretty much and I can say that they do not compare to the Milwaukee fast back utility knife. The knife is so ergonomic and nice in the hand as well as the design of the blade retainer. You can choke up on it or back. It's a button lock and it swings open and closed so you can quickly cut things. I work in a farm store at the back where we are constantly opening pallets and cutting cardboard and all that stuff. This knife holds up really well. Give it a look guys. You wont be disappointed its 8 to 12 bucks and so worth it

Not sure if they make spanner bits in that size (for the pivots), but a fine tipped needle nose plier usually works.

I always preferred Revell models back in my day, I built an F4 Phantom a bit bigger than the hog on your table back around the mid 1970s. Mine was more Navy flavor for the paint, kind of a blue grey mix, very cool. Gotta bring that our of retirement for my office. Now on the knives, do you ever use the strop? I started after Jeff at CL put a vid out years back. It's a great way to keep the EDC on the sharp side without the full Apex treatment. Thanks for the vids, we're still out here.

Usually I carry a good fixed blade like the guardian 3 and a Craftsman(?) utility knife. Good combo for edc.
