Something a little bit different from me, a kindly ask with regard to a crowdfunder we are doing at work to buy, renovate, stock and send a mobile library from the UK to Ukraine. I have a chat all about it in and how hopefully I’ll be involved if we’re successful. #BookTube #MobileLibrary #BookChat

@@SavidgeReads oh wow, that's great news! 🤩 The books are always important, especially now. We have some local projects for restocking destroyed libraries or the ones on the deoccupied territories and this mobile library will definitely be a wonderful addition!

Thanks so much for publicising this wonderful project. Just thinking about the predicament of having one's local library destroyed by bombs is painful. I have made friends with a very literate Ukrainian refugee living here in Lancashire. She has had to abandon a home full of books because of the war. She does not speak English, so cannot even browse in a bookshop or library. I don't even have to imagine her pain. I can see it when we meet. I have looked this project up on the crowdfunding website and it is well on the way to success, is nearly up to £7,000 already, 14/5/24.

Wish you all the best with this project, Simon! Solidarity and support is exactly what we need more of in this world (and less inhumanity and corruption but that’s another chat). And as you said, language and cultural heritage is very valuable and worth preserving indeed. Goes without saying but I fully back all kinds of library accessibility!

Happy to donate! Last Saturday, my bookclub in Australia did a small scale author's event at our local library with a Ukrainian/Australian author with proceeds from the sale of his family memoir going to Ukrainian children's charities. Lovely to have the opportunity to contribute some more.
