Helping goslings out of the eggs

If hatching goslings cannot break a hole into the protecting egg shell, they will suffocate. At Discovery Garden Pattaya we carefully help them to crack the shells and getting out of the egg which is protective, but also often a deadly straight jacket. It is always a difficult or delicate task, but this time around we are successful and can save another three goslings.

I grew up in the country and had animals. Our favorite goose sat on some eggs and hatched out a bunch of goslings. However the eggs that didn’t hatch, dad would chuck them out into the field and I liked to hear them explode, and they STUNK!! Well one egg didn’t explode and I walked over to see why it didn’t, and there was an almost formed gosling with his egg yoke still left to get in his belly and it was still alive. I was so sad for that little bird. I will never forget that scene

Put a little warm water in between him and the egg, and maybe he can wriggle himself out

I had to help one of mine hatch. She seems very weak after 48 hours after hatch. She can walk a few steps and wont hold her head up long. I have given her water with vitamins that she will drink but wont eat. Will she be okay? Is there anything else I should do?

I rescued some baby gosling a couple weeks ago, and had one hatch Sunday night. After about 12 hrs of no progress but still breathing I decided to go ahead and help assist it. I removed the top portion and they were able to get out on their own. Now, my question is for the 2nd one. It had externally pipped and I could see it’s bill on the outside of the egg. But after 12 hrs, it died inside the egg. I opened it up and everything looked fine except the baby probably died before finishing to absorb the yolk. My question is, why did it die?? Should I have assisted it?? I didn’t want to intervene but I’m feeling regret that I didn’t. The membrane was not dry, and it was not sticky. It also was not malpositioned.

Don’t beat yourself up. I’ve had geese for 12 years, and sadly this happens sometimes. 😔

hello. my gosling couldn't get out so i helped him. now he is out but very weak. he's been lying for 5 hours inside the incubator. he didnt even open his eyes but he sometimes moves. I dont know what i can do to keep him alive. I tried giving some water but he wont drink it. 😔

I need a bigger incubator. Your may be primitive but big enough to care for the larger eggs I have.

24 or 48 hours after hatching.

Mine died 😢 unfortunately had egg stuck to it and I couldn't get it off 😪

@@jonathanjones1949 it is delicate, sometimes using water can get help, and after the whole appears you should wait at least 24 hours. In that time the egg yok has to be absorbed by the gosling.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I'm not having much look I had a duckling that hatch at the same time no problems hatching, obviously i waited 24hours before transferring to the brooder introduced it to food and water it was really lively. Yesterday I showed it to the neighbours kids for a few minutes then put her back in the brooder box a couple of hours later it was laid flat on it back stone dead ☹ I'm gutted as the other eggs look like there not going hatch as its been a few days now, both breeds the goose and Campbell are 35day and are well past the 35 day Mark probably more near the 39 days that are left in the incubator gutted and still can't work out the duckling died 😢
