you can achieve the same thing with parallel comp without affecting your original samples...

Awesome technique! I see alot these days of folks using soft clipping to get drums to hit harder. Would it make sense to insert the soft clipper after the transient shaper to get an even hard sound? Thanks so much for the video and your consideration!!

It also looks like its louder post smack attack so it has a higher peak. Do you ever soft clip or limit post transient shaping to keep the level under control on that bus, or do you handle that on the mixbus?

i dont hear any difference when rebalance my volume after i put smack attack on it. I only see that my volume level is getting boosted 3db, so i think thats te reason it sound better? can someone explain maybe ?

Dson Beats id do it when your making the beat. That way when you mixing it’s already done. Then you just rebalance.

you’re a really good teacher. i have a question. i have this problem where i overcompensate. sometimes, my kick is too loud or too quiet or my vocals are too loud or too quiet in a mix. is there a trick to know when the levels are balanced?

This sounds like you just need to work on understanding how compressors work and using your gain utility. Also, if you can’t tell if something is too loud or too soft, you need better speakers or headphones because if you can’t hear something until after you do it, then you’re not hearing it correctly in the first place.

Question , when routing your kicks with the snare, hats, clap into a buss how do you lower the peak of the kick while still maintaining that nice punch through the mix ?

How much of the low end are you rolling off for the bass? My 808s seem too muddy in the mix, but if i roll off any low end, then they dont seen to knock properly when listening in a car

use saturation to enhance harmonics
