Hendrie is a feature documentary on the legendary talk-radio comic legend Phil Hendrie, who influenced a legion of great comedic minds through his innovative and relatively short-lived, off-the-wall radio show. The film chronicles the life of a radio personality that dared to satirize the very medium he was part of, using a distinct and original method that hasn’t been attempted before or since. Some of the funniest and most interesting names in show business weigh in including: Bill Hader, Judd Apatow, Kevin Pollak, Henry Rollins, Dana Gould, Wayne Federman and many others.

I used to commute for work from Fullerton to San Bernardino and back. An hour each way, and for the drive home, I’d time it to be a full hour of Phil’s show just to hear him unpack a full episode. He’s brilliant!

I swear to God I saw a Ted Bell on the 101 near Solvang, CA going 55 MPH in the left lane in his Jag with his phone plastered to his ear, oblivious to anybody else. About 10 minutes later, he went by me at about 90 and I thought "just like Ted Bell" Another time I walked past an angry looking , red faced man and I thought "Coach Vernon Dozier" on his way to his side job at Subway, where his students will come in and mess with him when they order. "Pile it on, high and deep, coach"

Stumbled on the Phil Hendrie Show on AM radio in Cincinnati in ‘99 and have been listening ever since. This was great despite being about 3 hours too short.

I found his show in late 1999 listening to WOAI out of San Antonio. I would commute to night school in Austin and on the way home I'd listen. I couldn't believe the guests he had on and it wasn't until 3 months later I figured out what was going on and couldn't believe how much of a genius Phil was. I almost went off the road laughing so hard at when he lost it laughing or just the views that his guests had. This show got me through some tough times and I'm glad I got to hear it when it was on live. I still enjoy going back and listening to the shows that I missed years ago.

Ted's mother was "Crazy Linda" Bell who used to talk to herself so Ted refuses to use a hands free phone because everyone will think he's crazy too. "I'm Ted Bell, I can't be seen talking to myself. I'M TED BELL"

I first heard Phil at some point in 1997 on KFI. To this day I find myself laughing out loud remembering his character’s signature lines like R.C. Collins exclaiming “I have chlamydia!”

Phil is amazing! He worked at WCCO Radio in my hometown briefly in the 90s. However, he was too good for the station! At that time, the station was quite conservative, and its target audience seemed a bit too old for Phil's unique style of creativity and humor. I became a fan of his instantly!

Phil is still around kicking it but he is totally different. A real drag of a show he does now if he shows up once a week its pure luck. Always complaining about disgruntled girlfriend he has cross country. Has a new complaint every day about something. Goes on political rants. It is really dissapointing to see what this Phil has become in his old age. Should hang it up and let people pull his reruns, as his new matarial is the same old junk. Not interested in all the hype fom the puffy documentary. Good luck you though Phil.
