This video shows how to set up the Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Zip.
#hennessyhammock
Quick notes:
• Don't forget to tie off a couple of those hitch knots on your ridgeline once you've got your hammock set at the height and level you want. I didn't illustrate this on the end where I have my carabiner/rings, but you'll see it's been done at 4:47.
• The trees I'm working with are about 12 feet apart. This ended up being a little shorter than I prefer, so try to find something closer to 15-20 feet apart and you'll have a much easier time with setup.

@@Vissers_Of_Men I made the rookie mistake of taking it out the very first time without either and nearly froze 🥶🤣 (this was beginning of summer too, in the North Georgia Mountains) but absolutely will never hammock camp without at least a sleeping pad ever again... Your backside will get cold. I got an inexpensive inflatable pad on Amazon and stuck it actually inside my sleeping bag so it wouldn't slide around. This worked well. I've since bought an underquilt and also a warmer 0° sleeping bag so I'm well-prepped to tackle cold weather camping. Maybe I'll make a new video on that in the new year!

@@Vissers_Of_Men I just got The North Face Green Kazoo (women's version) sleeping bag for Christmas. It was recommended by one of the 'gearheads' you can chat with on Backcountry.com so I figured I'd check it out. I prefer bags over quilts, I think, because I like to feel more cocooned when I sleep... but that's just me. The bag is SO FLUFFY and I haven't tried stuffing it all into my hiking pack yet, but it does pack down pretty small, surprisingly. My first time out with it will be interesting!

@@leeennddaa853 awesome! I'm looking to get a used Hennessy Hammock (Ultralight Explorer A-Sym without the zipper) on eBay. Any recommendations on additions for winter?
@leeennddaa853
@leeennddaa853 3 жыл бұрын
@@warriorworkstraining I was actually hoping to take it out this weekend or next, but my trusty hiking buddy (my dog) got sick this week so my plans got sidelined for the foreseeable future. But that's my #1 trick for keeping warm in a hammock... Bring along a small dog, they make great 'portable heaters' haha! But honestly, you 100% need a sleeping pad. I didn't realize how COLD your backside gets, even with a 40° sleeping bag. I got a sleeping pad off Amazon for about $40 and I would absolutely not hammock camp without it again! I recommend actually putting it IN your sleeping bag so it stays put all night. I also recently got an underquilt (which I haven't tried out yet, but am hoping to soon) it's also an Amazon buy: OneTigris brand. I've put it on the hammock to test it out, so I know it fits mine, and it seems to be warm, but I've yet to try it. Hopefully I can report on it soon!

Very informative! Thanks for making this. I’ve been a car/tent/pop-up trailer camper my whole life, but am now getting into backpacking. I have an ENO Doublenest that I’m trying to make work (it was given to me). I’m debating whether or not to spend more on this rig, or get something really nice like a Hennessy or DD. I’m realizing there’s a lot to hammock camping!

Yeah the Eno hammocks will typically need to be supplemented with the bug net, rain fly, straps, etc whereas the HH just comes with most everything. (Though I have added a few tensioners/stakes/carabiners/rings for easier setup and also recently purchased new straps... I need to film some of my newest updates) Just be sure to keep something on your backside (sleeping pad or underquilt) or you'll find out the hard way like I did how *not* comfortable it is to sleep in cooler weather! @leeennddaa853
@leeennddaa853 3 жыл бұрын
Quick update: after finally getting around to testing the Kammock UL straps in the field, I think I might keep them just to have the ability to tie up to larger diameter trees (so replacing the webbing straps that came with the Hennessy Hammock) but I won't be steering away from the rings/carabineers. It just makes the ability to do small adjustments SO much easier and I very much regretted attempting to leave them out of my field setup this last time I took the hammock out.

Is it ok to let rainfly and hammock surface touch? Would water soak through the material and into the sleeping bag?
@leeennddaa853
@leeennddaa853 3 жыл бұрын
In my experience, the way my hammock sets up, you can either set up the rainfly to tie to the trees directly and have more space between the rainfly and the hammock itself, or you can tie the rainfly directly to the ridgeline the hammock is on, which allows for better protection against any rain/wind. In both setups, I've never experienced condensation issues or wet sleeping bags, and I've used it exclusively in North Georgia where it gets quite humid.

@leeennddaa853
@leeennddaa853 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Generally, the head/foot ends will correspond with which side your sleeping bag unzips on. So if you have a right zip bag, you'll want the zipper on the hammock to be on your right side. If you have a left zip bag, you'll want the zipper on your bag to be on the left side. Just makes getting in/out much easier.
