Probably the best 4x4 on the planet right now. Imagine what it would be like with off road tyres. Suzuki have got so much right with this car. They are going to sell like hot cakes for sure.

@@manschopanscho. ha ha ha, when I got the car tyres were at 2.4 bar. Manufacturers spec is 1.8 bar. Off Road, I run at 0.8 bar.

From my experience with the similar brake activated torque distribution in my FJ Cruiser (ATRAC) I can say it works very well (as in this videos) as long as you have fairly good traction. However, it does not work as well as locking differentials when you're in deep low traction situation like snow and ice or mud. Sometimes you want to avoid loosing traction so as not to dig in. In those situation even one locking differential is much better because you have to spin at least 3 wheels. This prevents any wheel slip and forward progress is maintained. Notice how much the unloaded wheels spins before the brake is applied and the torque switched to the opposing wheel. Now imagine this when you're trying to drive on top of deep snow or through deep mud. Plus sometimes you do want to spin up the tires to clear the treads. A braking system like this does not lend itself to this. Now add some locking diffs to the Jimny and it would be a goat.

A Diff lock would definitely be better. The brake system is reactive as opposed to active, but still hugely better than open diffs.

I bought my first zook in 1977. Brand new 3 cyl LJ50 that went anywhere. Been hooked on zooks ever since . Had 4 over the years and just sold number 5 , a 2010 Grand Vitara. Might have to save a few more dollars for one these little pocket rockets I think.

I have a 2006 Grand Vitara and a 2016 Grand Vitara. Can't get it over my heart to get rid of the old one. It actually looks and rides as new. No issues ever. But now I am curious if I can trade it against the Jimny :-)

As Suzuki pulled out of North America, the chances of the Suzuki Jimny coming to the US are highly unlikely. Our best chance is that it eventually gets marketed here rebranded under another manufacturer. I don't know how likely that is, but I'll keep my fingers cross. While I'd rather have a Suzuki Jimny, Id settle for a "Chevy Tracker" that is really a Jimny with Chevy badges.

@@Gimpthulhu I believe the only alliance/partnership Suzuki has right now, is with Toyota, but that is based primarily around selling cars in India. I would be gleeful to see a Toyota Jimny... I would be wary as fuck if GM had anything to do with Suzuki ever again.

This is better than the jeep renegade. I wish suzuki would bring this to the US market. A 3" lift and some better tires this would be even better. So this is the samurai replacement or was it named jimmy before? I know geo had the tracker and suzuki the samurai. I bet this is priced decent too.

Jimny was always the name in Japan. From 1998 it was known internationally as the Jimny (Jimny Sierra in Australia)

Price new in Europe goes around €17000 to €22000 depending on the edition you choose. Quite affordable 4x4 imo given it purpose

They certainly are cheap. For some reason they decided to put el cheapo Dunlops on for South Africa, instead of Bridgestones that everyone else gets. I can feel how crap they are in normal dry tar driving. I swapped them for decent tyres before I had a chance to drive with them in the rain.

@@vicrundle4661 hey Victor! You could jack up the front or the rear wheels and count how many rotations the wheel turns for 1 full rotation of the drive shaft. Then divide the numbers. This is how u get your final drive (differential) ratio. Its 4.09 for the 3rd gen jimny auto and 4.3 for the manual. Could be an idea for a new video :D

I doubt it is any heavier on fuel than the old one. For the tank I used about 1.5l/100km more for around 2 hours of off road driving

@@vicrundle4661 Manual has first gear ratio of 4.46:1. And with low range ratio of 2:1. This means a total of 6.46:1 ratio in first gear low range with manual. So you have 130 Nm engine torgue x 6.46 equals 839.8 Nm at the wheels. That is insane for a car that is 1100 kg Automatic has a 2.6:1 low range ratio with a 2.81:1 first gear.

Easily the best affordable ladder frame 4x4 on the market today. I drive a 2016 Prado and this little car will go wherever I take that (exception of deeper river crossing).

Victor Rundle not surprised, but as a direct comparison to the Prado’s factory spec crossing depth of 800mm the Suzuki falls short at half that. Not doubting it will cross deeper but you will guarantee wet 🦶...👍
