Henrietta is spot on. Look at other equine sports and the professionals in the UK mostly do it right. Take a horse out for a trip, get it used to going out, do little competitions, the result is not what counts, it is the learning experience for the horse that matters.

Better horses ,better trainers ,better jockeys ,in 80s ireland was skint all our good ones went across da pond.

Maybe its the grass in the Emerald isle, or maybe its the people?

Why do people say England when they mean Britain?

I'm struggling with this. Ten, twenty years ago the power money (pre Celtic tiger) was with English owners who bought Irish horses, P2P winners and all who were sent to English trainers (Best Mate, anyone ever heard of him?), and they won everything. Is that not what has changed, more than anything else? Why are the best Irish horses not being trained in England as before? Thought that was a very fair point from NL that a lot of small Irish trainers might not feel that there's any disparity between them and their equally small English counterparts: so maybe it's not such a clear Ireland v GB thing after all. Is it a valid comparison, using Mullins and Elliot who win everything as examples of 'Irish'? They're the best trainers for sure, so they'll get the best ones, and deservedly so. Owners like to win races , and the big owners like to win the big races. Hen doesn't seem to be entirely clear about whether it's the pattern/calendar, or the mentality and patience of owners, or if it's the quality of staff that is the decisive issue. She seems to think everything is wrong. Which isn't very helpful if this situation needs to be addressed.

I think Henerietta is over complicating things. Years ago the British bought most of the best horses. Now the Irish are buying the best horses, with powerful owners. One thing I would agree on, is there is too much racing in Britain.

So she is a fan of the Irish bumpers/maiden hurdles with 20 runners, (for example) a Mullins odds on shot, two or three others trying and the rest just having a little practise and/or being steered round at the back to get a nice low handicap mark?

The same trainer who used to pull her horses out because of a slight going change. Did she say the same about the Irish in the 80’s/90’s when Britain dominated

Shame Paul didnt want to be interviewed with Henrietta. She talks alot of sense and is spot on about Irish jockeys riding compared to here. Also the trainers always look like they love the job. Henrietta u talk too much sense. Great to see her on here. Should be held in high regard 3 Gold cups deserves respect

20 runner maiden hurdles in Ireland are as uncompetitive as you can get. It's not nearly as simple as the best horses are no longer being shipped across the Irish Sea but that is a huge reason. Prize money is also better than in the UK so why would O'Leary or Rich send their horses over to be trained? I know McManus does but he's been doing it long before Ireland overtook the UK in NH terms. I can't comment about how the Irish introduce their horses to jumping/attitude to Bumpers as I'm not au fait with that side of the game.

Absolute nonsense. As with most things in life - buy/stockpile the best and you will get results on a year by year basis. That's what is happening in Ireland particularly with Mullins - the quality of horse he has available to him he really can't fail.
