Henry Repeating Arms is the first to chamber a single-shot rifle for the .350 Legend, a round booming in close-range deer hunting popularity. The combination of that round and the single-shot platform have some legitimate merits for the upcoming deer season. Here’s why.

I have an H&R in 45-70 that I've had for years. I love it, it's my go to for foul weather hunts. It's always puzzled me that some people don't see the value in a good solid single shot rifle or shotgun.....

Years ago, I was about to buy a NEF single shot rifle also in 45-70 but the sales clerk mention that shooting that big round in a light rifle won't be fun. I bought the NEF 20 ga single shot youth shotgun instead It's a good gun for upland games but I bought some special order #00 buck (6 pellets) for home defense.

I am a fan of the single shot rifle. Henry makes a high quality solid gun. With a little practice you can reload in 3-5 seconds. Plenty of time for a follow-up shot on a wounded animal. I have a T/C Encore and it is the same experience.

The woman did a fine job shooting and explaining this firearm. This Henry .350 single shot is a perfect hunting rifle. Hunting is about your skill to put a single round on the vital area of the big game animal for a clean harvest. The only thing about a break action is to make sure you don't pinch your non-trigger hand on the hinge area between the receiver and the barrel while closing the break action. Ouch, with lots of pain is the operative word! You quickly learn NOT to be careless when opening/closing the breach with your non-trigger hand.

Started hunting with an old Iver Johnson .410 over 60 years ago. Soon as I saw that Henry in .350 Legend in my local sporting goods store and handled it, I knew it was going home with me. I own a T/C Pro Hunter with 4 different barrels, and 2 New England's, one in .223 and one 30-06 that came with a 20 gauge barrel. And that '06 has stacked some deer. I needed another gun like a newer hole in my head, but Henry with the beaver tail release was like holding a ticket back in time.

I understand the need for the .350 legend caliber in states that restrict you to straight wall cases. If you don't have any restriction for caliber and want low recoil and a versatile light wait hunting rifle the .30-30 or .243 Win are good choices.

Honestly.. I thought about the same things.. you could go with both of those.. or you could actually go down the rabbit hole too! I'm glad that I did.. actually fell in love with the 350 once I shot it! It's definitely low recoil handy accurate points fast due to 18 inch barrel inexpensive ammo and the only ammo that I actually didn't have trouble finding during the pandemic. Still tons on Walmart shelf.. along with 308 Winchester. I used mine in 2020 to harvest a big bodied eight point.. and my brothers nephew used his to harvest a huge ten point. Both went down inside of thirty yards and in sight. The thirty five caliber with 180 grains just works with no fuss. Oh.. and we don't live in a straight wall state. It is nice to have choices though. My grandkids will enjoy it too :)

Henry single shot rifles are beautiful rifles. The wood is close to fancy grade walnut. I have a Ruger #1 in .45-70 and wanted a smaller caliber single shot as well. My father had an old Martini action .357Mag rifle I loved to shoot growing up. So I purchased a Henry single shot in .44mag when they came out. The wood was better than fancy grade and quality was superb. Accuracy was excellent. I followed up buying a .30-30 Winchester, which has the same ballistics as the .350 legend, but cheaper ammo and more versatile selection of bullets. I ended up putting red dot sights on both rifles that shoot 1MOA at 100yards for both rifles. Glad I bought both rifles when they came out and paid less than $300 for each through Bud's Gun shop a few years back. Love these rifles. Buy one you will love it.

I had my SS 357 Mag reamed out to 357 Max. I see it as a bit more practical in the SS platform considering it's rimmed, and takes .358 bullets. The one thing ill never understand is why the 350 legend is setup to take .355 bullets when there are literally thousands of heavy bullet designs in .358.

@@russellkeeling9712 meh, i see where you're coming from. but i dont buy it. 350 legen is designed basically to mimic the 357 max in ana autoloader and that means 180+gr bullets. most common heaviest "9mm luger" bullets are 147 gr. basically an entire new bullet tooling has to exist to cater to this cartridge. 8ve seen 180 gr .355 bullets in the store, specific for the legend. they werent cheap or readily available

I don’t buy the 350 legend either! The cartridge that Rifle should be chambered in is the .375 Winchester.
@jasonbroom7147
@jasonbroom7147 2 жыл бұрын
The reason for the 350 Legend shooting .355" bullets is because they started with the wrong parent case...the 223 Remington. Ironically, they wound up going with a case with a slightly larger head size, and STILL had to put .355" bullets in it, in order to achieve enough case taper to ensure reliable extraction. All of this was driven, of course, by the main goal of making this round suitable for use in an AR-15 platform. The net result is a very poorly designed cartridge. Not only does it use a specialized case (one of a kind) it also headspaces on the mouth, which is a HORRIBLE choice in a single-shot rifle! If you're going to shoot a single-shot and want a mild recoil cartridge that fires 35 caliber bullets...the 35 Remington is superior to the 350 Legend in every possible way. I'm pretty disappointed in Henry for choosing to chamber the 350 Legend in their rifle, but they've got to go with what sells. Most folks these days don't understand why the 350 Legend is a poor cartridge, and even worse in a single-shot rifle.

I see one con about it. It doesn't have a shell ejector like the h&r break over for example. The plus about a break over in general is more and more states are allowing single shots in place of muzzleloaders during muzzle season and state lands that are muzzle only.

Single shot rifles are inherently accurate in that they don't torque the cartridge in loading, they go straight in. I like the fact that the spent cartridge is just extracted and not ejected as well. Compared to the 357 Magnum how much more powerful is the 350 Legend? Thanks for sharing.

Night and day difference! Ones a revolver round the other a rifle round. I have both.. a Ruger Sp101 and a Savage Axis ii stainless steel. I'll say the 357 Magnum is best inside 75 yards and the 350 Legend is best inside 200 yards. I purchased my 350 Legend in January 2020.. and got to use it this past season. I harvested a big bodied pennsylvania eight point.. double lung complete pass through. The buck stumbled thirty yards to his death bed. My brother's nephew downed a huge 10 point with his. Clipped the heart destroyed the lungs but didn't exit. His buck snow plowed twenty yards to his death bed. Definitely believers after this past season. Now.. my brother and his father in law are using the 350 Legend. Why? Low recoil short lightweight points fast and the ammo is inexpensive :)

@@perplexingperceptions8888 no doubt about it! The 357 Mag is a great revolver round. I get excellent accuracy from my Ruger Sp101.. however.. for hunting I'd choose the 350 Legend. The very first time I pulled the trigger.. I fell in love with the cartridge. Little to no recoil but will knock the snot out of the biggest buck in the woods.

@@blackie1of4 I want a bolt action rifle chambered in 350Legend particularly a Ruger American predator so bad but ammo for it is elusive at the moment & when it is in stock it's super expensive.

@@perplexingperceptions8888 put notices in at Midway.. that way you can pick up the ammo online when it's in stock. That's how I get mine. The Ruger American is nice! If I get another 350 Legend it will be the Savage Hog Hunter. They added the 350 to that model this year. Nice rifle with open sights to boot!

A single shot in 405 Win might be nice, I think it would be able to use 410 shells also.
