Obviously Henry is ridiculously good-looking. But more impressive is his dedication to his craft, his perfectionism that has resulted in his awesome incarnation of Geralt. This series has the hallmarks of a truly great fantasy series - compelling storylines, a distinctive, unearthly ambience, and yet a believability that can lull one into thinking these people and places could actually exist.

The storylines are much worse than in the books though. The showrunners streamlined them quite a bit, made characters and their arcs less interesting, removed some of the morality nuances, altered plot points in a way that made little sense... Otherwise it could have been pretty great indeed. Cavill is top-notch in the role as you said.

Yeah, you often don't think of how scenes like this require absolute perfection from everyone, both in front of the camera & behind it. They did a phenomenal job on bringing how he became The Butcher of Blaviken to life. Too bad he just quit as Geralt though due to Netflix not respecting Sapkowski's work, he said a while ago that he'd stay on as Geralt as long as they honored the author & his work by staying accurate to the books. It seems they didn't stand up to their end of the bargain.

Actually, the choreography isn't that good. In the beginning Geralt is using reverse grip, which is not something a real swordsman would do, unless he's ambushed. Then Renfri is constantly spinning, which leaves her open for the strike like half of the time. Yeah, sure, Geralt doesn't want to kill her, but her fighting style kinda begs for the question - how did she manage to survive till this moment? But it looks cool, and operator's work is really great.

@Sampiro Locke Most of the really good fight scenes in TV and film are terrible depictions of martial arts though... And that's fine! That's what it ought to do

Sampiro Locke we have to take into account that while skill is something very important to depict in scenes like this one, it is still a fight built for the sole purpose of entertainment. I've watched the series now at least 6 times and these two particular sword fight scenes are absolutely mesmerizing to watch. The fact that the first one where Gerault is fighting the gang is done in a single shot is spectacularly incredible, the amount of pinpoint timing required by so many people, including the cameraman is exquisite and seemingly flawless. The second sword fight with Renfri really does look like an intricately detailed dance, the moves between them are this whirling, spiraling dance of swords and death. I love hearing about the backstory behind scenes and this one by Henry does not disappoint! It's always worth the repeat viewing of this series. @@cjtrules1 Fighting in general is a vicious, violent struggle - just look at any barroom/parking lot brawl (especially if someone pulls a knife) and tell me that resembles a dance. Fighting, in general, rarely ever tells a story either.

@@plushdogg124 Lol, let me add an edit to my comment then. All ORGANIZED fighting is a dance. A fight between skilled people can tell a lot actually if you break it down.

@@cjtrules1 Agreed. Organized fighting (especially martial arts) is definitely a dance. Pro wrestling and choreographed fight scenes just have more control over the story that is told.

Marketing: so we’ve got some trailer ideas and maybe some behind the scenes Henry: *bursts in in a homemade geralt cosplay, holding an action figure, sword in one hand* I wanna talk about the sword fights!

Too many movies try to avoid the long arduous process of perfectly choreographed fight scenes with those shaky rapid cuts to imply action. They always zone me out and I'm just sitting there wondering what the hell is actually going on. Watching The Witcher definitely felt like breath of fresh air, all the fight scenes so clean and good to watch. Really appreciate the extra effort gone into doing them like this.

Can we just get a whole 20 hour series of this? Henry just breaking down every scene? I'll pay extra monthly for it. Plz, netflix? please?

Henry Cavill was created by the Universe to play Geralt just like Ian Mckellen and Viggo Mortensen was created to play Gandalf and Aragorn (Just like the rest of the casting of Lotr).

If the series gets more budget and Henry keeps doing his portrayal of Geralt *this good,* this series might end in one of the greatest jewels on TV

He is an awesome storyteller! He gives just enough detail to understand what's going on but not too much to lose track. Very interesting to learn about this scene from him!

It’s great that Henry does his own stunts as geralt and is so specific and creative in what he does. He’s an incredible actor and person. 🙂❤️
