Danish Something missing? Perhaps it's the established experience that we're used to seeing in Superman, while Cavill's version in MOS was still a very inexperienced version of the character, only actually beginning to become "Superman" at the very end. So I think we should refrain from making an ultimate judgement until we see how his version of the character evolves.

You can expect actors to praise the characters they play, provided they play major characters, but it seems like Snyder and Cavill have come up with a very interesting take on the character (apparently drawing directly from the comics, I wouldn't know as I haven't read any Superman comics since the '90s). After Watchmen (hadn't read the comic, but seemed pretty good) and Man of Steel (I was really impressed), I'm starting to respect Snyder a lot. Maybe some of his earlier stuff was cheesy or predictable but look what he's creating now. Also, even more than Nolan (whose Owlish, comic-book outsider take on the Batman mythos I REALLY appreciated) it's clear that he's a huge fan and thinks directing a movie like MoS or BvS is his dream job. Kal El used to stand for a world where issues of good and evil can easily be resolved, but this Kal El is thrown into the real world, with all our human problems and the evil shit we do to one another, and as one man with extraordinary powers, he has to try to figure out what to do. People hated the fact that he killed Zod, but they hated it exactly because it was a realistic take (what was he supposed to do?) as opposed to one more suitable to idealized fairytales that sweep anything uncomfortable under the rug.

Spaceghost Zero actually,i think its very nostalgic to love those two films now and compare them with the present films!! cos ofcourse the cinematography,the fight scenes and the character get ups are much developed(better)!! with respect to acting,the previous films could not impress me that much as i loved only Reeve's performance,but its his face looks and smile that impresses me the most!! that version was so campy and to me "silly"!! I loved Superman in the animated series and in JL and JLU!! MoS reminds me of that version a lot!! Henry is bulky,handsome and truly appealing as a superman!!

+PermanentHigh I'm a big fan of Christopher Reeve's Superman. I saw his movies when I was a child (in VHS). At that time Christopher Reeve did a great Superman for that time. Thanks to him, Superman is my favorite hero. Now, Henry Cavill really does a fantastic, amazing role as Superman. At first when they announced that Cavill was chosen to play Superman in Man Of Steel, I was upset. When I saw the film, I was fascinated and now I can't see another person doing Superman. Henry Cavill is fantastic. It gives life to my favorite superhero, and does fantastic. He knows perfect how to do Superman.

Henry Cavill I believe is the definitive superman, especially how he's evolved in the comics. Back in the day especially when Chris Reeves was doing supes, he was this perfect god like figure. Superman isn't really like that anymore or at least you get to see his more human side. Because he may have the powers of a god but he was raised human, so he has all the flaws a human would have but with the powers of a god. In Man of steel we got to see a Clark accept his powers and decide what his path will be, in no way shape or form is this supermans final form, it takes time for Clark to become THE Superman, it just isn't realistic and it makes people think he's boring when just day one he's perfect superman and everything. That's why people think superman is boring. Another addition is that the movie is called Man of Steel, not Superman, because in reality he hasn't really become superman yet.

Prior to MoS I was never a Superman fan, in fact I down right hated the character. MoS changed my opinion on him because it showed him to be complex, flawed and not the perfect character he was in prior years. I watch MoS once every month and I plan on watching it twice before seeing BvS on the 24th.

DC Comics hit the jackpot when Zack Snyder & Warner Bros cast Henry Cavill as Superman. Henry Cavill is a tremendous ambassador for the character of Superman. The guy just exudes everything you'd want in a leading man portraying a character who is such a daunting challenge to 99% of actors. I love Cavill and can't wait to see the overall impact he leaves on Superman over the course of the many Superman and Justice League films he makes in the coming years. One day in the future, we will be talking about Superman through the lens of the "signature Henry Cavill portrayal".

I genuinely feel sorry for any actor who takes up the mantle of Superman after Henry, because this man will become as iconic if not more iconic than Reeve's Superman, he just gets the character and his portrayal turned me into a Superman fan, prior to MoS I was admittedly just a Batman fanboy but because of this I've learned to respect Superman as a character, love it! can't wait to see this film!

I'm so glad that Henry decided to do his own Clark Kent and not copying Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent. I still love Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent/Superman. But I'm glad that Henry is respecting Christopher Reeve's version and decided to do his own version of Clark Kent/Superman. Henry Cavill is a worthy successor after Christopher Reeve in my opinion.

Henry Cavill, I respectfully disagree with your take on the Clark Kent/Superman/Kal-El mythos. The Superman I knew always knew there was more good than evil, and this belief helped him in his spiritual journey as a superhero. Your vision of the character has him as a doubter even of his own powers. How does this help the viewer define his/her own self as heroic? I don't see how it's done. Perhaps this doesn't make me a true Superman fan in your eyes and I'll likely be condemned worldwide for my strong views on values and their importance. I'm willing to take that risk. The hate mail I'll get will prove how right I am.

Christopher Reeves' Clark Kent was from the Pre-Crisis On Infinite Earths and Henry Cavill's Clark Kent is from the "New52"... So by looking at it that way, Cavill and Snyder are right, but I don't consider that a good thing at all...

+Martin Sevcech I view him as a blending of the New52 portrayal plus the post-crisis "Man of Steel". New52 superman is edgier and has a learning curve, and doesn't wear underoos, while post is as you say, and has the open neck collar.

Kaz Kinnikuman no, I wouldn't say that. Other than the semi truck street justice scene, Superman isn't shown being aggressive with people, seeking poetic justice or using his power against anyone but the invaders, and only when it became apparent that sacrifice and giving them what they wanted wasn't going to work.

+noah henkle - Superman is in fact a complex character. *(1)* He's *Kal-El*, the kryptonian trying to understand his Kryptonian heritage and history while understanding his father Jor-El's advice. *(2)* He's *Clark Kent*, mild-mannered reporter who grew up in middle-America and lives among humans and has similar experiences as humans. He's trying to understand his earth-father's words of wisdom. *(3)* He's also *Superman*, the hero who has the weight of the world on his shoulders and who must always try to do what's right, be it saving falling air planes, saving citizens in a flood, or rescuing people from a burning building. That's 3 different persona's of Superman, and this is what you call a 3-Dimensional character.

He's wrong,No comics Superman would allow 10 9/11s to happen,Christopher Reeve was not comedic,he was so true to comics in terms of Clarks personality and likeness that influenced comic books himself
