All these news stories in the American media this week about the war crimes of the Russians and the possibility that Putin could be tried by the International Criminal Court with seldom a mention of the fact that the United States has consistently refused to accept the possibility of American citizens being tried in that court as surely a lot of American national political leaders deserve to be tried in that court. Believe that the United States even has a law stipulating that if the International Criminal Court attempts to try an American than the United States should launch a military attack to rescue the American war criminal who is on trial. That has to be about the most flagrant example of hypocrisy in history. Not to say that Putin isn't a demagogue and a horrific monster who should he tried in the International Criminal Court.

When I was three - like most other kids - I always wanted ice cream, even in the dead of a Canadian winter. One winter evening, while my father was listening to the news on his Soviet-made shortwave ‘Spidola’ radio, the distinctive baritone voice of Henry Kissinger (then Nixon’s NSA) came on the air. Intrigued, I asked my dad how come that man’s voice was so hoarse; to which my mother instantly replied: “he’s got a very sore throat because he wouldn’t listen to his mommy and ate ice cream in wintertime - that’s what will happen to your voice too, if you keep eating ice cream when it’s so cold outside”. ADDENDUM: To this day, a full half century later, I still blame Dr. Kissinger for missing out on a lot of ice cream when I was a kid...

@@Gustav_Kuriga During his brief tenure at the forefront of U.S. foreign policy, Kissinger got a lot done. In his first two years in office, he helped Richard Nixon sabotage Vietnamese peace talks for his own political gain, expanded that war into Laos and Cambodia (the destabilizing effects of which would pave the way for the rise of the Khmer Rouge and the death of up to two million people), and advocated the bombing of, in his own words, “anything that moves.” In 1971, Kissinger backed Pakistan in its war against Bangladesh despite evidence of massacre and rape. In ‘73, he orchestrated a military coup against the democratically elected Allende regime of Chile, installing in its stead the violently oppressive Pinochet dictatorship. And in ‘75, the then-Secretary of State lent his tacit support to President Suharto of Indonesia―himself a despot already responsible for the mass killings of hundreds of thousands―in the deadly conquest of East Timor. Kissinger himself, in proposing an intervention in Cyprus, summed up his philosophy best: “The illegal we do immediately; the unconstitutional takes a little longer.”

Overall the us has been leading the world towards more international cooperation, trade and was a cultural force for freedom. I'm sorry, but I don't have the specific details of the interview you mentioned as my training only includes information up to January 2022. However, I can provide general information about Henry Kissinger's views on Russia and Ukraine up to that point. Henry Kissinger, a former U.S. Secretary of State and a prominent figure in international relations, has often emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in handling conflicts. He has advocated for a pragmatic approach to Russia, stressing the need for cooperation on global issues despite differences. Regarding the situation in Ukraine in 2014, which involved Russia's annexation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Kissinger's statements were nuanced. He acknowledged Russia's historical and security concerns in the region but also emphasized the importance of respecting Ukraine's sovereignty. If there were any specific comments made by Henry Kissinger on Charlie Rose's show on March 6, 2014, I recommend checking the interview directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information on his views at that particular time. You might find transcripts or video clips online that capture the details of the conversation.

The word "Ukraine" isn't uttered once in this clip. Fifty percent Kissinger's usual stammering, fifty percent talk show rhetoric trying to be passed off as something revelatory. I watched the clip. I also read some of the comments. Henry Kissinger knows as much as anybody about geo-politics and history . Probably more. Kissinger has had a massive impact on American foreign policy and world history. For five decades he has been an influential statesman theorists and political consultant. Henry Kissinger knew more about the world by the time he was 30 than most people who have ever lived have ever learned in a lifetime. He is essentially a giant 98 year old Jewish-German-American Super-brain, still tickin'. I admire Kissinger. I learned about Realpolitik mainly from him. I owe him a lot but I don't really trust him. I'm all but certain that he doesn't trust me either. The comments on Kissinger was so stupid that it almost seems like parody, at best.

I miss some of the people he would get. I thought Rose was a bad interviewer who interrupted more often than not, had an ego which was inappropriate for the job, and always came across as thinking himself more important and smarter than the people he was interviewing. After THE stories came out I would never have been able to get the image out of my mind of his inviting young interns to his mansion and then walking around with his robe opening. At least when it comes to Amanpour she's a real journalist with international credentials, and not so endlessly full of herself.

@@mikicerise6250 Ukraine was not neutral, it's army was being trained by NATO and the country was signalling its intent to join NATO although it had been rejected a few times. If they had been honestly neutral they would have stated so clearrly and firmly. And only today Zelinsky is starting to talk about neutrality and non adherence to NATO (see interview on CNN). Russia is weak economically and has a low rate of birth. They cannot afford to start a war that is costly and makes them the enemy of the world. They must have known things that you and I do not know in order to mobilize and get into Ukraine.
