The Big Aristotle was planning on relaxing for his 28th birthday. Especially since the #1 ranked Lakers were facing the worst team in the league - The Los Angeles Clippers. Shaq spent the entire pre-game planning his party. But when Shaq saw his idol Kareem Abdul Jabbar courtside everything changed. Kareem was coaching the Clippers players on how to defend Shaq and Shaq took that personally.

Noooooo!!! Did Kobe Bryant remember that they brought back the BANNED zone defense in 2002 because of Shaq during their championship run?!?! Was BANNED since 1947!!! That’s why they didn’t win more rings. No big man after 47’ and before 02’ had to deal with what Shaq had to. His numbers dropped 6-7 ppg 2 seasons later.

To be fair even hack a shaq didn’t stop him. Even at an abysmal 50% on FTs it’s still 1 point per possession, which is what every offense is aiming for, especially in the early 2000s where iso ball drove down the scoring average

ACTUALLY the problem was that he wanted to reserve some seats for his friends/family and the Clippers organization told him "No." On the extra tickets. Shaq took that personally. And scored 61 points, 3 assists and 23 rebounds. After the game he was quoted as saying "Don’t ever make me pay for tickets"

Once Shaq got swept by The Dream, he took that personal and put on bulk muscle and weight. Look at rookie Shaq. He was lean muscle and not any different than an average center size wise. Dude got big by the time he went to LA in 1996 and was unstoppable at that point. No center could guard him. But he took it for granted, put on the bad weight and became conceited like. He acted like he didn’t need to put in work because nobody could guard him. Imagine him with MJ or KB’s work ethics. Possibly could’ve been The Undisputed Goat.
