in the Chinese language, 'heart-and-liver' one word depicts someone or something dear and precious. as far as we could date the school of medicine in the East, the liver 'speaks' volume even in the language arts for the people.. Hi Andrew, thanks for the video - I enjoy the clarity you bring to the complicated liver. I will always remember what fenestrated means now that you gave the background on the root meaning. Question: What modifies blood composition? Is it Hepatocytes or the actual sinusoids?

I loved the video! Thank you! In the first video you discussed three functions of the liver. Would consider producing a fourth video that categorizes the cells by their proscribed functions and go into more detail on the process of the function and implications of cell failure? Also, when one has a fatty liver, where are the fat cells located and how do they interrupt liver functions?
@2006seabass2006
@2006seabass2006 9 жыл бұрын
fizix137 Hey, I'm a 4th year med student. I currently have a course about the gastro-intestinal tract and liver. So i think I can help you out a bit. When you have fatty liver you don't actually get fat cells (adipocyt) in your liver. What happens is that the hepatocytes (liver cells) start accumulating fat vesikels inside them. When these vesikels get too big it can effect the function of the hepatocyt. What you also see is inflammation (this is what causes the most dammage) due to the activation of stellate cells and fibroblasts because of alcohol or other stimuli. This eventually leads to fibrosis around the sinusoids.

Hi Andrew, great video! The one thing I'm curious about is the short discussion on the hepatic zones. They are typically described using the schematic of the hepatic acinus, formed by drawing a diamond between two adjacent central veins and two adjacent portal triads/hepatic arteries. The Zones are then made by slicing the diamond, with Zone 3 being nearest the diamond points and Zone 1 nearest the bisector of the diamond. Using this schematic, it seems that drawing concentric circles around the Central Vein would better approximate the zones than circles around the Portal Triad, as you have drawn and described. Let me know what you think.

Hello:), great video! I have one question please: why Cholangiocytes are involved in being a part of the livers structure (rather then a structure of bile ducts). How do they contribute to the liver if we exclued bile ducts, gallblather and the "green part"? Also what are the Pit cells? There is very little information about those and they are also included as a cells of the liver Thank you
