Shit I watched just some of this and yes I know it's a movie, But in all honesty I lived this abuse getting told I was never going to leave my ex husband because I wouldn't find anyone that would love me and my children. I had three beautiful girls so I gave up my happiness so my kids could always have a farther.. And he was cheating behind my back also.. He was abusive to wards our children also, you can't talk to family or friends because of this what you see he's mother say. But in the end he forced me to travel to other states looking for work. I found work and I'd work 8 days and have 3 days off and I'd call home to let him know that I would be leaving at say 6am for the my 3 day's off. And he told me don't bother because my to younger daughters who where in there teenage year's didn't want me back. And one of the two said I had abandoned her and left her with a bitch and her dad that she heated. My daughter's have never been told what there farther had said...

My step was an abusive asshole. We went to visit his mom one day while he was at a welding job and my mom asked his mom about it. I'll never forget it, she asked, "What did you do to make him angry?" We never talked about it in front of her again. This step had, what I know now as, the typical abuser pattern. Make nice, reel her in, hits her once, tells her he's sorry and it won't happen again, then it gets worse, we leave, he stalks us and wears her down, plays the victim, wash, rinse, repeat. As a warning to to others (no matter your gender); Abusers will sometimes take years to condition you so you don't fight back. They separate you from family and friends so you are dependant on them. They learn all your fears and use them against you, use them to keep you in line. They will tell you A is B when you know for a fact A is A, its called gaslighting, and they will do this until you feel insane. I watched my mom go through all of this, I went though it with her (to this day I can't even let my husband touch my ribs without flinching, he understands and adjusted) and you will always lose until you leave. When you leave, you don't tell anyone. Not friends, not family, no one. Eventually they might move on to some other poor soul, but until that time, they can and do sometimes hunt you down. Even to women's shelters. If you have to tell anyone anything, lie until the coast is clear. Yes it is this serious and yes this is what you have to do to be free. It's been years now and I still have nightmares, I still check all my doors and windows, I hate people standing behind me in lines or even sitting at a table in the middle of a restaurant and I have to know where all my exits are at all times. When I move to a new place and try to sleep, my mind keeps me awake, running scenario through my head for preparation...just in case. Not for fear of my husband (we've been together 23 years now despite my PTSD), but of other humans. I don't trust them, I don't look them in the eyes when I have to talk to them.
