The idea that you shouldn't be able to go outside of the palace as a royal without being besieged is absolutely ridiculous! The late queen rightfully rebutted that reporter.

I haven’t read any of these books as had never taken interest in the monarchy, until Harry & Meghan started this quest to revengefully wreak havoc, to apparently bring it down. Thank you for opening my eyes, from so many eras, as with each & every video it brings relevance to today!

I still think in the beginning that Charles was in love/lust with Diana. In photos and videos he was quite touchy /feely with her , but they had absolutely nothing in common and with her mental health problems it caused a rift very early. Unfortunately Charles wouldn't know how to handle someone with a volatile personality because of his sheltered upbringing , also i think Diana had also dreamed of the happy ever after in the fairytale books. She said in the engagement interview 'i always dreamed when i grew up i would marry Prince Charles '

The Queen was a kind woman by nature who cared about and took care of all of her family. When Diana complained that when she married into the fold she got no help or support, we know that was untrue--she simply was not put on a pedestal.

If Diana felt supported, why has she made it sound, in Nortons book, that she wasn't supported. We now know who stepped out but back then the impression was she was the angel and Charles and Camilla were the villian incl the family because they knew and approved. My mother still thinks of them as so at times and i must tell her the truth of the precious Diana.

That is a great story. It seems that the Queen's efforts on Diana's behalf were undermined when Diana herself started to play games with the press. I had a work colleague who grew up in a town near Balmoral Castle. He said that as a child he sometimes saw the then Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret waiting to catch a bus. If his memory was correct it seems that they were able to lead somewhat normal lives in their youth, in Scotland, at least, and did not have to deal with the paparazzi who grew more and more awful from the 1960s onwards.

@@HilaryB. I lived in the uk for 15 years. In my first year there, I was managing a corporate team of lovely people. One afternoon teatime, we had need for a celebration for a coworker. So, I sent a coworker out to pick up some celebratory bits and bobs. I told them to go out and grab some chips and lollies for an afternoon tea. They were gone for ages. Our office was above a metro mart. ie a supermarket in the centre of the cbd. They returned with arms’ full of hot chips wrapped in white paper from a fish and chip shop, and plastic bags of ice creams and icy poles and ice blocks from local milk bars. My suggestion, in my mind, was that they’d just whip downstairs, and grab some packets of sweets (AKA Aussie lollies) and some bags of crisps (AKA some chips)! Thank god it was a hot day. The Cornetto’s were very well received. The packages of soggy chips… not so much!!

Quite a few years ago, I watched an interview given by, then, Prince Charles. It was sad to listen as openly as he could about the loneliness in his marriage and the total incompatibility between him and Diana and how hard it was to endure. You don’t need to have a psychology degree to understand that. Both of them felt abandoned by the expectations of their family’s pedigree. I felt sorry for both of them.

He never should have married her. She was only 19 and I think he was like 12 years older. The thing is he never stopped seeing Camilla. He was calling her on her honeymoon, remember the train incident too when the press thought it was Diana but it was Camilla. After Diana’s dramatic childhood and abandonment Charles really destroyed her emotionally. Camilla even helped pick Diana out for Charles, their thinking was she was so young and naive that they could successfully pull the wool over her eyes. Diana proved them wrong and she was stronger than they gave her credit for. It’s tragic that if they never married she possibly would’ve found true love and be alive today. Charles and Camilla would have had happier lives too. It’s just tragic from all angles.

Interesting stories. I don't think there is any other family in the world who so snooped upon, written about , photographed, etc. Even a younger Diana would have known that all came with the territory so why did she freely choose to join the party ? Was she so ambitious to be on the world stage, produce an heir ( and spare UGH ), be someone so important, be an influencer ? I don't think she was really all that shy but knew how to exploit her magnificent eyes in particular, her physical stature and figure, her lovely smile. May she rest in peace. She paid a huge price for it all.
@deleneholm6510
@deleneholm6510 10 ай бұрын
My personal theory is that Diana had romanticised the whole thing. If you have ever read a Barbara Cartland (DIana's step grandmother) novel, then it was all about true love conquers all, particularly if the true love was a prince. Diana was desperate for love, and she was only 19, so can totally understand that she had very little understanding what she was getting in to. Diana also was not very bright. I think one positive spin off of the whole Charles and Diana saga is that fewer young girls grew up with the 'princess fantasy'. I certainly don't think that Catherine had a princess fantasy. She understood how restrictive and snooped upon her life would be.
@dv7361
@dv7361 10 ай бұрын
To add to what @Deleneholm has said, I think all of us have a much better understanding of things in today’s times because of social media. It’s very likely that Diana lived a sheltered, aristocratic life without necessarily reading all those tabloids to know how much scrutiny her future in-laws were always under. It’s also possible that she had an idea but thought she could handle it because ‘love conquers all’. 25 years ago when I was 19 the world was a very different place and my own understanding of the world (and love) was so naive and severely under developed
@Odo55
@Odo55 10 ай бұрын
@@dv7361 Well, yes of course it was a different time and she was young and lived in the aristocratic bubble all her life but she and her family were in association with the royal family too. She was friends with Andrew.She was born on the Sandringham estate, she was at the aristocratic polo matches where Charles was playing with photographers present. She saw first hand what kind of attention he drew as well as the Queen and Prince Philip, etc. There were tabloids in those days with lots of coverage of Charles social life etc. There was coverage on them all on TV programs. Of course she wanted to be loved and somehow convinced herself that it would all workout. She gave serious thought to calling off the wedding, but as her sister famously said, bad luck Duch, you're already on the tea towels. It was reported and quoted that she " saved herself " for someone important. Hmmmmm, who could that be, the someone who was required to marry a virgin.
@a24-45

I'm of Charles' generation, so I'm old enough to remember that in my adolescence, young girls like myself all yearned after Prince Charles. He spent 2 terms of high school in Australia, boarding at Geelong Grammar School's Timbertop campus and it caused a sensation here among Aussie girlhood, who hoped against hope to get a glimpse of him IRL. The papers gushed that he was " the world's most eligible bachelor". And Charles' notoriously diffident, shy personality was not a deterrent, it had a certain appeal to the sort of girl who wanted something more real than a handsome movie star, or a pop star with a giant ego. So Diana's aspiring to marry Charles was every girl's romantic fantasy. But did Diana secretly crave a high profile? the idea would certainly fit with her emotionally-deprived background. There are strong hints that she often felt unimportant and unwanted by both her parents, whose bitter divorce was followed by them becoming preoccupied with their respective new partners. And was Diana really " not that bright"? we know she did poorly at school; which might indicate stress, rather than her IQ. Her parents could have afforded the very best tutors to help her -- or did they just give up on her, or worse, not think a girl was worth the investment? did they see her only as someone whose role in life was to get married? I can definitely see why Diana might be drawn unconsciously to a future which would provide her with real, genuine admiration and real appreciation; which would validate her worth to the world.

Great point...as time has gone by we realize that the relationship between Diana and the Queen was not as some believe. They were very different people and I think there was awkwardness and perhaps disappointment on both sides because they fundamentally did not understand each other, but it seems the Queen had affection for Diana and tried very hard to help and protect her in her own way. I think Diana also had great affection for the Queen and respect for her, but at times was disappointed that the Queen couldn't understand her emotional issues. With time I think Diana would have come to realize that the Queen showed her great kindness, but was of a very different emotional makeup than Diana and couldn't relate to her emotionally in the way Diana would have wished, but she was looking out for her.

Thanks for your always factual & entertaining reviews. It's nice to hear a positive story about the queen from that time. She'd certainly mellowed by the time her grandchildren dated & married, but forcing Charles to marry Diana was archaic & cruel. I remember her coldness when Diana died & Tony Blair had to give her a reality jolt. Not her majesty's finest hour.
@thevocalcrone

I believe that was misreporting and sorted out a long time ago. The queen believed her priority was to care for the two boys and allow them to grieve in priority and it was one of the few times she put duty to the citizens on a back burner until as you say Tony Blair told her that she needed to address the public because it was turning into a lynch squad. if you think about it - its pretty bad that a Queen can't be there for her grandchildren because the public feel they are more important than providing an emotionally stable future king.. but people grieving don't really think about stuff like that.

As someone involved with a narcissistic person, they can love and adore you but it is short lived and as shallow as their personality.

I believe Prince Charles did love Diana, but they were ill matched from the beginning. She was very young, impetuous and strong willed and he was naive and very immature.

Sounds so far like a perfectly normal dysfunctional relationship. I don't think that we can doubt that the marriage was arranged (including on Dianas side). What we an assume (safely i think) is that Diana was young and beautiful (and stupid), and thought that Charles would automatically fall in love with her. However, they didn't know each other and if we do our own research on life and love we know that the first twelve months of a relationship is the honey moon stage (whether they are married or not) with both parties putting on their 'best face' and its at the twelve month stage you can tell if they can sustain the 'face'. Obviously she was hormonal after the baby and was unable to sustain it (i don't think Charles would have changed much). in the best of relationships after a child relationships change the marriage will have some stress and pressure on it. By the way .. what happened to your RB video? it looks like its been removed.

Not to be pervy, but Prince Andrew was a hottie in his youth, not so much now. Waddle waddle. Queen Elizabeth really wanted their marriage to work. Too bad Charles and Di couldn’t have had a period away from England, like Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip had in Malta. Howdy! Irreally enjoy your channel and research.

Maybe this is what Harry’s wife wanted to happen with her? To have the Queen give a press conference on her behalf?

They would if she had really been stalked and harassed. This wasn’t related to the stories written about Diana, they couldn’t tell the paper’s what they should write about, it was only about the actual physical harassment. Meghan didn’t experience any.

Diana was a teenager!!! let us all not forget-. We found out after SPARE that many people were of the options that Diana knew it was an “arrangement“ AND Charles supposedly made it clear before the wedding- - yeah we are still talking about a 19-year-old teenager who was engaged to the next king of England and though she could’ve agreed to everything she did fall in love with him. She really didn’t think it would be a full-fledged “arrangement “ - again, more information that the Diana audience who are now much older and mature can look back and see exactly what was going on because of spare
