Dear ladies: don’t be ashamed of having a hysterectomy. We take out a piece of ourselves that was damaged. I had a hysterectomy 10 days ago because of severe adenomyosis. My uterus was very sick, and the pathology report confirmed it. I don’t feel incomplete, I feel relieved. I’m still recovering and in pain. My hysterectomy was abdominal and I stayed at the hospital for two nights. Good luck to anyone going through this procedure and I wish a speedy recovery for you!

I had a hysterectomy and it completely changed my life and health for the best. Never so happy. I regret suffering all the years prior. I was 51.

Mine is coming up. I am really discouraged that posts from the medical community still say 2 weeks down time but I can't find a single woman on any social media platform that was "recovered" in two weeks. Looks like the 2 weeks is just when to stop taking pain meds.

Who is ashamed of having a hysterectomy? I'm not. Life happens, and you have to do what is necessary for your health.

Wow Lisa, I'm so sorry that you had to endure all of that! Thank you for sharing your story. I am scheduled to have my Laparoscopic Hysterectomy due to fibroids on January 7th. I am very nervous about the recovery. I have never had surgery. The unknown is the scariest part

The vomiting is (likely) because of the reaction to the anesthesia. I've had a few surgeries and it only took after the first one to find out that vomiting after receiving anesthesia is common ---and horrible. WHY the Anesthesiologist doesn't say this prior, I don't know; but ever since that first episode I experienced, I ask for a pill/rx so I'm not vomiting afterwards. It's an EXPENSIVE pill, but worth it.

I totally experienced itchiness after a cesarean. I could not stop feeling like my skin was covered in ants. Wow, Lisa, I am so glad you shared this story. When you get a scary diagnosis there isn't much time to consider options.

This was so helpful, thank you for your honesty - I underwent a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago and I was discharged the next day despite vomiting on the evening of the operation and through the night (I think I had an adverse reaction to the morphine they gave me post op). The day nurses were very unhelpful and as soon as I could do a wee, they wanted me gone.

The pain meds made me itchy and nauseous, so I took muscle relaxers & ibuprofen which worked super well. And Estradiol cream helped too.

I’m 2 weeks out and was in hospital 5 days and couldn’t urinate for nine days. My skin started itching day 10-11 so glad to hear this mentioned. Agree - worse than giving birth.
