When I die my last wish is for "Dolphin dance" to be played at my funeral. Why? Because the song encapsulates my life from being a transplant to the S.F bay area from Saginaw mi. after a short stint in U.S Airforce and working in highend stores selling to stars and going to jazz clubs happy hour after work.Going to piano wine bars in Berkeley ca. dressed to the hilts, dancing smoothly to the live band.Outside concert at U.C Berkeley Greek theatre featuring Miles Davis at night with a background view of the Oakland/SF bay bridge.Transplanting to Boston, living in the Marriott while working as a union pipefitter a d visiting all of Boston jazz clubs.Flying my sister and daughter in(at separate times) driving to NY to go shopping. Finally relocating to Atlanta to 2004,gave up drinking, smoking and drugs and later retiring. This song describes my life,to me!

That Bosendorfer has the edge on the Steinway....Steinways can be very bright in the upper keys. This piano has a full richness throughout the range; incredible pianist.

I dont like Steinways and I played my ear . So sound is very important to me. I know it's a matter of preference. The craftsmanship says it's the best because you hardly ever have to tune it however I don't dig this sound .

@@paxwallacejazz the stineway has a certain sound to it ..... I dont like the sound...... However the craftsmanship is great you hardly ever have to tune it .... But that doesn't mean I have to like the sound.. Sound and craftsmanship are two different things .... For instance it could be made strong sturdy but the sound might be a little bit different than other piano because it actually is. Since I play by ear I search for particular sound of my preference. The Steinway doesn't have the sound of my preference. I like yamaha's though !

Back in the days when Mr. Hancock still played enough of the actual tune along with really fantastic improve and re-harmonization - last time I saw him he was so outside even for my ear that my wife and most likely the rest of the public hadn't a clue if he was actually performing or just practicing on a really out of tune piano -

Not me, I love it when he sets his soul free and go outside the box, he still maintains the expressive spirit of the song, but he continues to evolve it in unpredictable ways. yet manages to provide the foundation for these excursions , while juxtaposing it over what the band is playing, creating a whole new approach to the same song. He's brilliant and I think his years with Miles, evolved his creative spirit in ways we couldn't imagine.

@@kamronwilliams2634 For me personally (and I can tell we have different taste, so I'm not expecting you to particular dig these), I think the modern innovators of jazz Hiromi Uehara (Recommended album: A Place to Be), Eldar Djangarov(Recommended project: GEM trio), and Tigran Hamasyan(Album: For Gyumri). They all have very different styles, so maybe you'll find one of them to be as innovative as Brubeck or Art Tatum. Enjoy!
