I also really like the version where Hercules literally goes to the underworld and begs Hades to give back the spirit of Alcestis. He tells a whole story about how strong their love is and how they are not ready to part. Hades, moved by the friendship Hercules has for Admetus, agrees to help out and allowes Alcestis to return to the land of the living and spend the rest of her live with her husband and children. Admetus was so grateful for the good act, he gives Heracles many gifts!

Death was finality in Greek Mythology, the final frontier. The Underworld was not a very cheerful place, there were 3 places you could go. The First is Tartarus, the lowest reaches of the underworld, it is a deity itself, a living, desolate and fiery pit where those hated by the gods were kept. The inhabitants of Tartarus include a number of the Titans, the Gigante Tityus, the infamous three being Ixion, Sisyphus and Tantalus and previously the Hecatoncheires (Hek-uh-tahn-ker-eez) whose name translates to "Hundred handed ones" and there were three of them Briareus (sometimes known as Aegaeon), Cottus and Gyges, and also their brothers the Cyclopes being Steropes, Brontes and Arges. The second destination was where most souls went, the Asphodel meadows or Fields of Asphodel, not much is known of this place but it is said to be a dark place where flowers that only grow in the underworld, named Asphodel, grow. The highest destination were the Elysian Fields, also known as Elysium, where heroes and other great humans were sent after death, it was said to be similar to life, although less enjoyable.

I have read many greek myths in my time. But never heard or read this stroy. Makes a change that nobody died....there are some good endings in some story's. But rare . Exp: Cupid and psyche. Great art work. Maybe you should try and get a part time job at D C comics or marvel comics. Be safe all .😊

I kind of like the version better where Heracles arrived after the death of Alcestis but was still recieved as a guest. however Admetus told him a servent girl died not wanting to upset his guest. then he left to mourn at the tomb of his wife. Heracles waiting in the main hall drinking and singing crude songs from their time on the Argo. but he didn't understand why everybody was looking so shocked at him. when he finally asked a servant what their deal was they told him about Alcestis's death. then he was ashamed of his beheviour and mad Admetus didn't tell him. So he left emidiately. After a while he found Admetis at the tomb. He offered his condolences and presented him with a veiled women as a present. "I'm sure you'll like her, it was a hard fight to win her" Heracles said. Admetis not knowing how to tell his guest that tat was very inapropriate without offending him. So he told him that he couldn't accept the gift becouse of the promise he made to Alcestis. Heracles pretended to be mad and told him that he was making him look like a fool and declineng made him from his friend to his enemy. Admetis ofcourse shocked about this hesitently accepted. then he lifted her vail up and to his utter astonishment and joy he saw Alcestis looking back at him. They fell into eachothers hands as Heracles explained that he went after Thanaton and fought him before he had even reached the house of Hades. And so they lived long and happily ever after becouse of Heracles the jokester.

Almetus didn’t just give Apollo hospitality, they were lovers. In fact Apollo helped Almetus get Alcestis by yoking a boar and a lion to a chariot.

"He had the god Apollo stay at his homes when he would fall out with Zeus" Apollo: Hey.... I had a fight with my dad, -he so doesn't get me. Can I come over? You know..crash on your couch? I'll park my flaming chariot outside and I won't even be there in the morning because, you know, I'm the god of the sun?

It's actually Heracles... Named for the Goddess Hera to try and please her despite her dislike for Heracles... Hercules is the Roman Version.

im trying to figure out what the story interprets. I assume the malays of Thanatos was interpreted for cancer and that the king had little time before it took his life.
