What I think is interesting is that it's implied that Phil was the trainer to Achilles (in the mythology it's Chiron, of course, but I think Chiron was also the mentor of Hercules) and yet he complains that none of them have ever gone on to be great. When Achilles is arguably the single most important Greek heros there is.

It's mostly because it's not a good representation of greek mythology. For example, Hercules is a roman god; not a greek one. As a movie, I found it really enjoyable. As an historical representation, I found it dull and stupid. It depends on how you want to look at it.

In the Disney universe when characters explain, inspire, or even talk, they sing which is accepted in their world. In real life people will look at you like you’re crazy. They still have great songs though like this one.

There was a Hercules TV show on the Disney Channel. I think that it was a "mid-quel" and it took place while Hercules was training with Phil, but I'm not sure.

Bruce Maske That was the pilot episode of the TV series. The plot was Herc and Meg looking through Herc's old highschool yearbooks and reminiscing about his time training with Phil

Part of the humor of this film is knowing Greek mythology as an adult. Thus you get a real kick out of Phil being incredulous of a mortal boy being the son of Zeus, when (spoilers) Zeus was probably the biggest philanderer before Bill Clinton.

I don't think it's that Phil doesn't believe him. I think at this point Phil knows that Zeus has so many children that it isn't special anymore.

+Juan Sanchez I'm pretty sure you're right. After he laughed he went on about how "All of his past students" had been disappointments. Probably talking about all of the "God's children" he taught. None of them struck it rich until Herc.
