The Tibetan Wildass is one of the more common ungulates found across the high Himalayas. The species faces immense pressure from habitat loss due to livestock overgrazing, which is being catalysed by climate change. Moreover, the spread of diseases from livestock is a potential threat. Free ranging dogs are also a major threat.
This is a video of a Tibetan Wildass herd from our Ladakh road trip. Ladakh is one of the most interesting biodiversity hotspots in India. It is unfortunate climate change and habitat loss are driving extreme biodiversity loss in the mountains of Ladakh and the rest of the Himalayas.
