Here are a few tips about how to use your Silhouette machine to create large 3D paper models

Ever wanted to create a large format 3D paper sculpture? One of our designers at Silhouette will give you a few pointers in his creative design process. From the software he uses to create 3d digital models to flattening the digital models and preparing them for cutting in your Silhouette machine.
This is NOT a tutorial but if you would like to see one, let us know in the comments. We would love to create a series of videos that show you how to design and build one of these amazing projects.

Yes, detail on making 3D models to then be cut on my Silhouette would be great. Also, don't apologize for your delivery...I'm glad you aren't bubbly & chirpy...makes me think you are a REAL(!) person that wants me to succeed 👍

I have tried for years to engineer and design 3d with very little luck. Would love to see a class from start to finish (with something much simpler) but to see exactly how you go about it. Thank you for giving me SOME HOPE!!! .

Yes, you can use a Cameo 2 for this. In fact I think I made the first robot with a Cameo 1 or 2.

More details on how to create and work with these files would be great! Would Silhouette model maker work for these at all? I bought the license key for that but I have had a really hard time being able to create anything with it and I am quite proficient with Silhouette Studio.

Technically I think you could use Model Maker for some complex designs like this but I think it was intended to be used for simpler forms and shapes. It might be quite a challenge to create a really complex 3D model with Model Maker.

How much did it cost in materials to make the second robot? how did you manage to build the magnets into the design base? And how did you add the gold and special colors for the back fins and eyes? your work is extraordinary!!!! I am an artist so I defiantly🤓 commend you as an gifted Artist!!!

How many times did you have to cut the poster board? This is ambitious!

I had to set the cut for three passes for the outer cut lines but only one for the scoring. It probably took almost as long to cut all the pieces as it did to assemble them. 😳
