Same here I can't help it!, I remember my brothers and I got out of foster care in the fall and together we had such a nice christmas and mum would play these songs I never thought the day would come where all the pain and torment will end! I always had a feeling I was being carried through as a child I know how it was the hand of God that helped us through!

This song was recording in August/1947 & released November/1947. To this day, it's still played on the air. Listen to the beat.. When this song came out, it was a few months before I was born. Yes, I'll be 75 in March. If you think of the beat and rythm it's a nice dance song.

He did indeed write it. However, for me it has to be Bob B Soxx version. Phil Spector conjuring up the magic of Christmas, with that epic production. Could i just make the observation that the parents of the kids living down Santa Claus lane, made a very shrewd move. Oh quick, there he is. Finally. Off to bed then. Thanks Santa

@@waylonguinn8697 WOW! It's almost like music carries a certain spirit about it. MC just can't 'carry' or convey the spirit of Christmas into the music. I remember a famous old jazz musician saying something to the effect that you can't sing jazz unless you've suffered a lot. Music has spirit in it. Mariah better just stick to her sex songs I guess:/

What I find most awesome about this song is that it was conceived while Gene was riding his horse down Hollywood Blvd during the Hollywood Christmas Parade (I believe it was called the Santa Claus Parade or something similar back then) and he heard people screaming "Here comes Santa Claus!"

Kids loved Gene Autry until we got old enough to know he was not one of our working class like our dads and how he opposed unions and the right to bargain with rich capitalists like him for fair wages and proper dignified working conditions. We are old now and we remember how hard our parents labored to provide that extra for us a Christmas. Thanks Daddy and Mommy. Wearing my Gene Autry cowboy hat aged 7 and shooting my cap gun while Mom cooked the dinner and Dad smoked his stogie. The happiest days of our lives.
