My dad was in an accident in a Geo Metro. He accidentally drove off a cliff in Southern Utah. Somehow he survived. So props to the geo metro for saving my dad.

I worked for Toyota in the 90's. The sales staff were VERY annoyed about the Geo Prizm. It was a Corolla for less money because GM was offering incentives at the time and they were going for 1000 less than an identically equipped Corolla.

Now that you've covered Geo, how about a video on the now forgotten GM brand çalled "Asuna"? These were sold in Canada in the late 80's to early 90's. Asuna and Pontiac in Canada also had their own versions of the Tracker.

In the 80’s 1 of every 2 cars sold in the United States was a GM product. Today 1 in every 13 vehicles sold in the USA is a GM.

I remember one of the old timer parts guys at the dealership, mentioned a consumer reports article on Geo long time ago. They took a geo and a Toyota, and had people drive both of them. Everyone liked the Toyota better......then they told them it was the exact same car.....

Sold my metro with just over 450,000 miles. That 3pot 5spd just didn't die, still maintained 50mph. It was without a doubt one of the best and most fun cars I've ever owned

I've owned four Geos throughout the years. I have a soft spot in my heart for those little cars, especially the Metro.

Don't forget the even shorter-lived Asüna brand in Canada. It was basically the same as Geo, and the Storm was called the Asüna Sunfire, the name later being given to Pontiac as the successor to the Sunbird. A 2001 Pontiac Sunfire GT was my first new car.

Love my Geo Metro, I used to make 140 mile trips to Atlanta regularly on the interstate at 80 miles an hour it would use at the most 4 gallons of gas it was built like a tin can though

A 1991 Geo Prizm LSi was my first new car, I kept it 12 years and 187,200 miles until I gave it to a friend as he had no car. It was a great car.

My son commuted in a Geo Metro for 20 years. He just kept replacing the engine. Until low mileage engines were no longer available in junk yards.

I had a 1997 Geo Metro with the 3 cylinder 1.0L engine and 5 speed manual transmission. Got about 47mpg no matter how I drove it. I'm more of a large car with V8 type of a car guy but I do miss having that Geo.

Some fun trivia about the 1992 Prizm: there was a heat shield (to protect the radiator's rubber hoses from melting) over the front-mounted exhaust manifold, and the trapped heat caused the manifold to split down the middle every 60k or so miles, resulting in all the exhaust & noise leaking out the front of the engine. In a Corolla of the same year, the heat shield had a porthole in the middle to strategically vent this heat, preventing the manifold from cracking. After I replaced three of these (heavy, expensive) manifolds I removed the offending shield permanently, and using twine I tied the rubber hoses out of the way of the manifold so that the heat would not melt them.

The 1989 Prizm hatchback was my first car. I loved it! I got into a really bad wreck and totaled it. Me and everybody else in the car walked away with minor injuries. So kudos to the safety features of the Geo Prizm! I owned '92 Prizm sedan. I brought it with me to Germany when I was in the military. I got it up to I think 110 mph. The speedometer only went to 85. I kept it about 10 years and drove it 250,000 miles. I sold it to someone else at that time and it still ran. I later owned a Chevy Prizm. I totalled that car and again walked away with minor injuries. So thank you Geo for keeping me and my family alive.

My mom had a 4-door Geo Metro. I drove it all the time as a kid. 17 years old, pushing that little 3-cylinder to its limits. I remember taking it to the coast and having trouble parallel parking it even though it’s super small. My friends and I picked it up and lifted it in place. This channel is a stroll down memory lane. I love it!

Even weirder, for the '92 & '93 model years they sold the Impulse and the Sidekick under the Asüna brand in Canada, and called them the Sunfire and Sunrunner respectively. Confusing, especially since it was possible during the duration of production to buy the Sidekick badged by Chevrolet, Suzuki, Asüna, Pontiac, GMC AND by Geo.

I had a second gen metro in the early 2000s. A motion picture director who was making a film in the town I was living in at the time expressed interest in using it in his film - it would have been driven by Heather Graham. As you can guess, having a Geo Metro as my one and only car meant that I didn't have a lot of money at the time and was pretty reliant on it, so I had some reserve. When he asked if I would consider letting him paint it, I told him only if it was a good paint job and not some Maaco paint job that would start flaking off. We exchanged info but eventually he went with another option. The film was eventually released but I think the viewership was so low that almost nobody knew about it (called At Any Price). I've never actually watched it start to finish.

Thanks for the wonderful memories of these compact cars. It is important to note, that the The Chevy Spectrum was the Isuzu I-Mark. The joint venture of GM and Isuzu motors. Thank you for the wonderful trip down memory lane nevertheless.

My first car was a ‘97 Geo Prizm. I had it for 13 years and put 400k miles on it. What a gem I thought I had at the time and went all over the US & Canada/Alaska on road trips when I was in my 20s. Watching this is taking me back to those carefree days. Awesome video, thanks!

I remember working on these back in the day. Getting parts for Toyota based cars, n/p. However, getting parts for those made by Isuzu was next to impossible. I remember calling the local Chevy/Geo dealer asking for an engine gasket set for a Storm. The guy actually laughed at me.. that was around 1999 or 2000...

Glad I clicked on this. There were some bonus cars in there besides the Geo ones. Brought back a lot of memories, there was so much variety back then.

I remember being amazed when my grandfather bought a brand new 92 Prism and a brand new Evinrude 25 HP outboard for his boat, both with cash on the same day. That Prizm was a pretty nice little car, I drove it like it was a big go cart. My sister later ended up buying a clapped out Geo Storm that wasn’t nearly as fun to drive.

I used to have a 93 Geo Storm GSI 1.8, modified suspention, intake, ig. Coil and what a blast it was to drive. Also on that same platform, had an Isuzu Impulse RS, the turbo AWD one . Great cars.

A guy near me still owns a Pontiac Firefly, I usually see it parked or driving around the neighborhood. It's rusted to hell and looks like it's been repainted a dozen times, but somehow it's still going.

I've owned both a geo spectrum (1989) and geo storm wagonback (1992), both are fantastic and fun cars to throw around!

I had 2 geo storms when I was in high school, a 93 manual (sold it), then a 92 auto (fixed it while owning the 93, but then wreaked it), then bought back the 93. Watching this, I miss them. For time of reference I worked at circuit city after graduation while driving the 93, that was 2005!

Took my driving test in a yellow 2door Tracker, remember sitting in the back of the Storm (very uncomfortable) and owned a yellow Metro convertible. Sold it immediately after I saw a local accident involving a Metro... or what was left of it.

I'd like to see a video on the Dodge Shadow/Plymouth Sundance. My mom had a 91 Shadow lift back. It was interesting because it had a notch back design, but the entire hatch opened, rear glass and all. 👍

My wife's first car was the base model 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum Express. It still ran great when we got rid of it at 120,000 miles. It was just starting to develop some serious rust in the rear wheelwells. Besides maintenance items, we only did a few minor repairs in the 11 years she had it.

I had a 1991 white Geo Storm GSI back in the day. Loved that car. drove it from Virginia to California and back when I was in the Navy. Good times

Great video. My first roommate had a Geo Tracker. He would often do all he could to try and destroy it but it kept on running.

My dad used to have a Geo Storm hatch and somehow managed to move our entire family (at the time) from Cali all the way to where we’re at now in North Carolina. If I’m not wrong, I’m pretty sure he had to do it twice too and I remember him telling me that those long trips made him absolutely hate anything remotely associated with GM because it kept breaking down on him all throughout and so ever since then he’s been a Toyota Loyalist.

My first car was a blue 1991 Geo Prizm. I’ve also owned a 1991 Geo Storm, 1997 Geo Metro, 1998 Chev Metro, and currently still own a 1996 Geo Metro. I always wanted a two door Geo Tracker but those flimsy soft tops don’t do well with Alaska’s weather🥶☃️❄️ Awesome video!👍

The Tracker had a 1.6 liter engine. Other than that, great video.

Had a Metro which I drove the crap out of. It was slow, but it handled great, got 40+ mpg, and was super reliable. Still running great when I sold it.

When I met my second wife, she was driving a Suzuki Sidekick, the early one with the four wheel drive transfer case. After we got married, she used the four door as her car (and small daughter transport) while I used the little Sidekick as a commuter car. And it worked great! I could flip the top back and roll the windows down and just enjoy my drive in (the slushbox tranny meant easy stop and go traffic). We decided to sell it as it was starting to come apart at the seams, and my wife had it sold within two hours of it listing. They make great little off roaders and utility vehicles when an old Toyota Hilux or Tacoma won't fit. The Geo would have been just as much fun, but she was always glad she had the Suzuki instead as it was less common than the Tracker.

I remember I've once spotted one and probably only Geo Metro in my country, in traffic. Small Polish industrial town, of all places in the world, is probably the last place you would expect a Geo Metro to pop up in.

I had an 89 Geo Prism for my first car (in 99). Learned how to drive manual in it. Got it for 500 dollars. It was a great car.

I drove a 80's Sprint and a 90's Metro when I was in college in the 90's. Very practical cars. Yesterday I just bought a 1997 Geo Metro for $500 with working air conditioning. I'm going to keep this vehicle up and see how many miles I can milk out of it.

I remember that during the high gas prices of 2009, the Geo's were getting top dollar due to their great fuel economy.

I had 2 Geos and I liked them. I had a 96 Storm. The 4th gear was out, but it still ran well for several years. I replaced it with a 95 Metro and it lasted a few more years. I only paid $300 for the storm, and $500 for the Metro. I got about 8 years out of both of them.

I had a Geo Storm GSI with a 5 speed. Great little car. Fun to drive.

Coincidentally, the only GM division with decent products for the time.

Thank you for that. As you mentioned, my first New car was a 1994 Geo Metro 4 door hatch back with the 5 speed manual. I was a poor college student and for $8995, that was all I was able to afford at the time. I really grew to love that little car. I put a lot of miles on it and it was cheap to maintain. Tires were $17 each at the time. When I met met my now ex wife at the time, she had a red 93 Geo Storm, just like the one you show. So, your video brought back a lot of good memories.

I had a 92 tracker hardtop that met its demise because the driver of a cement truck was temporarily blinded by the sun. I was hit sitting still and he was doing about 20 mph. I was lucky enough to only walk away with a little neck and back pain. I’m not sure about the rest of the stable but the trackers were well built.

I had an early Metro 5-door hatchback. For a tiny car, it was actually pretty roomy. I remember having 4 grown guys in there and no one was pinched. The shocks and springs sucked and it would bottom out with much of load. Otherwise, it got me to work and back pretty well. Bonus was you could park it about anywhere.

1:00 Those 1987/88 Chevrolet Sprint *Turbos* were a hoot to drive. They had almost DOUBLE the torque as the non-turbo but only weighed 50lbs more. It was like driving a really fast go-cart! Still, it was so tiny that no matter what you still got great mileage. Win-win!

I had a ‘94 Geo Metro. It was my first new car. It only took one rain storm to learn never drive it with less than a half tank of gas on a wet road. The footprint is so small that it could hydroplane at 20 mph.

I had a 1995 Pontiac Firefly SE hatchback with the 1.3 L 4 cylinder engine. It was a great little car for the city great gas mileage, peppy and could haul a lot in the hatch. Also, in Canada we had rebadged versions on the Tracker - GMC Tracker, Pontiac & Asuna Sunrunner, there was also short lived twin to the Geo Storm - Asuna Sunfire. Asuna`s were sold at Pontiac dealers.

I had a 1991 Metro... it was made in Canada. I also had a 1992 Prism for a while, it was a Prizm GSi, which had a 4A-GE engine in it and improved suspension.

I can still remember seeing many Prizms, Trackers, and Metros on the roads when I was a kid in the 90s. The Tracker convertible was so attractive and really fit in with the generation of the early and mid 90s. The Prizm was perfectly practical. The Metro was perfect for the urban commuters. As for the Storm, I never saw too many, but it was very sporty looking and would make a perfect little street sleeper for enthusiasts willing to do tuning on the engine or pop a turbo 4 into it.

In December 1989 I bought a new silver-colored 1990 Pontiac Firefly, with a 3-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission, it could run a long time on a tank of gasoline. This was a good feature as I was driving 60,000 km/year. It was a cute car and fun to drive. We put over 400,000 km on this car. In 1993 we bought a new identical twin, except this one was red and was labeled “Suzuki Swift GA”. We put over 500,000 km on this car! Thank you for reminding me of these wonderful cars.

Great video. I've always had a soft spot for the most basic, analogue econo-mobiles like the Geo Metro and VW Rabbit my parents used to drive. I just picked up a 93 Ford Festiva and it's hilariously fun. You should cover that car next since it was Ford's answer to the import econo-boxes of the time, much like GM's Geo/Saturn.

I owned a Geo Storm and a Geo Tracker back in the day. Loved them both. The Tracker is iconic.

My first car was a hand-me-down 86 Chevy Nova. My dad replaced it with a 99 Prizm. I later bought a 05 Pontiac Vibe. All of these cars were built at the NUMMI plant in CA which is now where Tesla's are built.

I used to race Suzuki Swift GTi’s since 1995. I also had Geo Metro’s at times as a daily driver and my friends used to say GEO stood for “Gerbal Engine Option”. 😂 I loved those cars. Easy to work on, easy to go fast but when they started rusting, it went bad quickly.

I bought a ‘92 Geo Prizm a few years back with 80k miles, now up to 105k with no issues. My parents drove an ‘89 Corolla (basically the same car) back in the day and it had over 300k miles when they sold it. I expect the same longevity out of my car. Super cheap and easy to maintain.

Had a 91 geo storm. It was basically an extra large go-gart and was a blast to drive. Loved that car.

We had a 2 door Tracker, 4 door Sidekick (both the 'original' gen style), 4 door Sprint, and my favorite-the car I learned to drive stick in, my parents brand new 1989 Swift GTi. I love(d) Geo/Suzuki. I loved the mid 90's Prizm, but ultimately have own two of the other NUMMI car, the Corolla of the same timeframe. The flip up headlights Storm still looks bad ass, and a Geo Metro convertible is the only bucket list car I have-someday!!!

My father used to owned a 1993 geo metro. The floorboards were super rusty and you could techinally fall through it. My found memory is that I drove it when I was 14, I loved how cheap it was and that the whole thing vibrated hard at idle like a washing machine. The 3 speed auto would forget when to shift on its own. My dad eventually got ride of it, sold it for 300 dollars, made his money back. I could never find a metro for that kind of money unless the thing was rust city. Those metros are still rising in price, a used grandma buick,mercury is cheaper than a geo metro sadly these days.

Owned a 1990 Geo Prizm LSI sedan. Bought it new and drove it for 14 years. Put over 320K miles on the car. Only problem I had with it was the Delco radio - which happened to be the only thing General Motors about the Prizm. It was a great little car.

Geo made some good cars. Back in the day you could get a decent geo prizm for less than $1500 and was pretty reliable. It was really a corolla.

Omg....the GEO was such an amazing new car line... I remember how cool the line was and was affordable for younger market. My friend had a Geo Tracker...so many good memories.

I've owned two Geo's. First a 89 Tracker (awesome off-road car) and more recently a 1994 Prizm LSI (the Toyota Corolla). Sold the latter recently to a kid for his first car. OD stopped at 298,xxx miles a couple years ago but it still runs like a top. Just needs about a quart of oil every month or so :) I'd own another Geo in a heartbeat.

I had 2 different metro's..... At over 50 mph..... And plenty of interior room in the front seat..... Can't say that about the back seat lol...... These little things were super when gas prices went through the roof... But finding parts for them were quite the challenge!

I had a 93 metro, I used it to go to and from work (roughly 120 miles a day) and only had to fill it up once a week. It was great.

I had the Metro XFI 5 speed and 50 mpg was pretty common for me. It was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned. No AC, no power windows, no power steering. One time in a rough head on wind I was holding back traffic because the car could not reach 50 mph. I did have it on the highway often at 70 and it was a white knuckle ride but it made it. For its time and its faults I'd still give it a 10 out of 10 for giving you exactly what you would expect for what it was. In comparison I also have owned a '16 chevy spark and again it was dead reliable only this time for the same size car it would easily run 85+ and would regularly get 40mpg even with the AC on. Power everything, automatic trans, quiet ride, and very peppy for its small 4cyl motor. Amazing what 20 years of tech advancement can do to refine the experience.

The 1st gen Prism also offered an option for the 1.6L Toyota/Yamaha 4A-GE engine in it’s transverse mounted variety that made the top level Prism a whole lot of fun. I used use one as my heater car and it never failed. Ended up giving it to a girl when I upgraded my beater to an LS400.
